  • amazing sound!!! but bending is very bad!!

  • GOOD GOOD

  • MrRich6505 ihave nothing to be jealous of.. did you even read my comment? i thought it was a great cover and im sure gilmour would be impressed... not because it was that awsome.. because he will be happy and will appreciate that someone covers his music... i have also learnt these solos a few years ago, because i love pink floyd and i love david gilmour. its just that i think that learning from huge masters like david gilmour is the best way to improve your playing and have fun at the same time

  • Хороший звук и хорошая игра!!! Классно!! (Cool.) :)))))))

  • Hiya! Really nice job ... I have the same issue with compressors being noisy .. not that they are in themselves, but if u put after any kind of gain, then that noise is compressed too which makes the compressor appear noisy. I have an Aphex punch and a Keeley ... both much "quieter" than the CS-2 (which I also have), but by no means silent. That H&K pushes out a decent sound ... much impressed with that! .. Also the moon-vibe .. any volume loss with that? Keep up the good work!!!!

  • Awesome mate! Sounds great!!!!!

  • great job on sound and feeling, top notch..im a huge floyd fan and love to play them myself but your in a different league from me....

  • Hey I'm a huge Floyd fan and I think you did a great job emulating daves sound. I play my self and always wanted that sound. Keep it up you sound great.

  • sound damm good bro ;) what amp and mic do you use?

Click the times marked as links and get directed to the related spots in the vid (just in case you didn't know ;)

  • Awesome, really great. Watched it the whole way though.

  • @bosscat71 cool, thx :)

  • Really really great tone and playing, enjoyed it very much!

  • @dingenstyp thanks for the compliment. I'm not that much impressed by my playing (overall) and by the tone used for 'Time'... But I managed to improve both a good bit since the day the vid was recorded :) So good chances for better vids in the future :)

  • Hi, sweet tone you got there!!! Very close to Gilmour´s in my opinion... Can you please tell me some more about the "recording chain"? You mic your amp, I got that, but after that? Do you use a preamp? If so, what kind of preamp? From preamp to soundcard? What kind of soundcard? etc.... Thanks!

  • @77Berlinski at least you can't expect much more from that tiny amp, plus most pedals are not original brands Gilmour used. The guitar chain is like EMG DG-20 pups->Boss CS-2->DynaComp clone->TubeFactor->Royal Beaver (Muff)->Butler Tube Driver->UniVibe clone->tc SCF(set for subtle chorus)->delay->amp(set for a clean tone+little verb).

There isn't much to say about the recording chain. It's a Zoom H4n only(internal mics, distance ~6ft). The mic you can see on the vid was not used.

  • Great stuff!

  • @sarinapaparone thx, glad you like it :)

  • are you left handed?

    ;-)

  • @TheMaxprs no, i'm not but the mirror is ;)

  • Very well done, that's a great vid!

  • @Pietotje thanks, glad you like it :)

  • Man you actually play really good... but even after you duplicated the exact gear and the exact settings david gilmour used back in 1994 you were'nt even close to him... And that's becuase there are thing you cant duplicate - his fingers, his feel, his personality. I understand why your doing this - cause its fun. And i dont know if your writing your own peaces of music but i think you will be more appriciated if you will make your own music and bring your own personality into it... Keep rocking

  • @GLPstudio1 Stupid comment, I think Gilmour would be impressed. I think your jealous.

  • @MrRich6505 well, whenever a piece of music is covered here on yt, someone will pop in and recommend you to rather make your own songs. somehow i do understand their point but on the other hand i definitely would not appreciate if everyone made their own music and spread it around. there are talented players and there are talented writers... and there are the other ones ;) i don't think i'm a good writer. so i rather learn how to play the stuff that i really like...

  • @GLPstudio1 well, like i said two posts before... it's only an approximation of the '94 DG tone... Gilmour's original rig was the largest one he ever travelled with and it was easily around 50K. but i guess i got it quite okay with my little pedal board and the cheapo amp. my playing wasn't all that good. i used to play the bass guitar only for several years and actually came back to the sixstring in early 2011. but i got your point... and yeah, it's a fun thing ;)

  • Thanks!

  • @raketfartraketfart always welcome... but you should rather thank David Gilmour ;)

  • Nice Man! So all you need is a tiny Laney amp and some pedals to enter the Dave Gilmour secret box of sounds? Wow, goin' to hit the local guitar shop tomorrow first thing.

  • @luit13 well, it's only an approximation of the '94 tone from heaven... Gilmour's original rig was the largest one he ever happened to travel with and was easily around 50K. but i guess i got it quite okay with my little pedal board and the cheapo amp :) btw it's pimped a little bit (tubes and speaker) but the all-stock CUB should give you a good impression of the overall tone of that nice little amp...

  • Great job man, It must have taken alot of trial and error to find your tones. Maybe you should make a vid explaining your pedal board and settings. Kepp rocking dude well done!!

  • @Kopite369 thanks, glad you like it :) you are right and the trial and error was not finished when i recorded the video. well, most everything is already explained in my comments on the vid or in my answers to the other guys' comments. the chain ist like the Strat with a DG-20 set of pups -> Boss CS-2 -> DynaComp clone -> H&K TubeFactor -> Royal Beaver (Muff) -> BK Tube Driver -> UniVibe clone -> tc SCF (analog chorus/flanger) -> delay -> amp. hope that helps :)

  • Is that red strat "a replica" of Gilmour's one? It sounds great in clean tone.

  • @TheJFCDG Gilmour's red Strat is a 57 reissure from the early 80s, packed with active EMGs and it has a short tremolo arm. the guitar on my vid is a 2009 MIM standard with a Callaham bridge/tremolo (with shortened arm) and the EMG DG-20 set. well, it sounded okay but i didn't like the original CAR finish. that's why i replaced the body with a new one that has a better looking CAR finish in early december... there will be a new video with the improved gear and settings :)

  • Beautiful tone! You nailed it! :)

  • @Aslak31 sorry, i was too busy all them weeks and didn't even show up here on yt. but this is the chain you were asking for: neck pup (DG-20) -> Boss CS-2 -> DynaComp clone -> UniVibe clone (subtle chorus) -> tc SCF (subtle analog chorus) -> delay -> amp (set for a clean tone)

the new vid will come... definitely. possibly featuring a live band, we'll see... it will be in 2012 but it will not be anytime soon. so we all need to be a little patient :)

  • very very good ,,,can you put some decrption of thr chain you are using

  • @frans688 thank you :) well, most everything is already explained in my comments on the vid or in my answers to the other guys' comments. the chain ist like the Strat with a DG-20 set of pups -> Boss CS-2 -> DynaComp clone -> H&K TubeFactor -> Royal Beaver (Muff) -> BK Tube Driver -> UniVibe clone -> tc SCF (analog chorus/flanger) -> delay -> amp. hope that helps :) feel free to ask if you would like to know the exact chain for certain parts...

  • Wow , amazing to say the least , Thank you for taking the time , which laney model is this ? and does it take pedals well infront ? Thaks again :)

  • @TheSAJ11 Laney Cub 12R... it's actually a pretty cheap amp but i replaced the tubes with JJs and the stock speaker with a Weber Thames (good bit of an improvement). it works pretty good with pedals, even the muff does not sound too harsh. i like it very much but it is not powerful enough to play gigs. it's my practice amp...

  • Can I ask what effects you are running during Shine on?That is the clean sound I am after!

  • @cpage07 neck pup (DG-20) -> Boss CS-2 -> DynaComp clone -> UniVibe clone (subtle chorus) -> tc SCF (subtle analog chorus) -> delay -> amp

  • that is one serious ass board !!

the amp stand is pretty cool to ;)

  • @sonyskymaster yepp, the amp stand rocks ^^ unfortunately i had to move the gear onto a larger pedal board a couple of weeks ago, since the one on the vid used to be so tight that i frequently hit the wrong pedals while stomping with shoes on...

  • Nice job

  • @heliobluesrock

    Thx :)

  • Beautiful. Now tab it all out ;O)

  • @stoob1969

er, sorry, I must leave right now... my neighbour is asking me to clean up the toilet... and I love cleaning up their toilet ^^

  • PS. Do you have you tremolos set flush with the body or floating a little? I think that the essential element of David's vibrato usage is (besides the short arm) floating trem. It makes the vibrato a little more organic and fluid when needed as you are able to bend both down and up. But don't quote me on that, that's what it sounds to me :)

  • @Eoon (PS)

On the vid the trems are flush to the body. I'm still checking different settings. You may be right but I can tell that the main reason for my tremolo not sounding gilmourish enough is my playing style. When I did the video I rather played the tremolo with the bass drum instead of letting it flow smoothly. Well, my main instrument has been the bass guitar for years, that might be the reason for that kind of playing style ;) But lowly and slowly I'm getting over it :)

  • Wow! You are the most dedicated and passionate Pink Floyd fan I've ever came across! Your rig is outstanding and sounds very much like the "real thing" :) I am surprised you chose the Laney Cub as your amp. I've played on it a little and I was totally surprised by how crappy it sounded. But with your upgrades and all those pedals it seems to be doing it's job just right.

Your playing is sweet aswell! Just work a little on your bends (accuracy) and vibrato and it'll be perfect :)

  • @Eoon

Thanks man. I take it as a compliment but you don't seem to know Bjorn from gilmourish-dot-com - that guy is the one who is really crazy!! His site is strongly recommended to any gilmourish tone hunters! I like the Cub12r very much as a recording and practice amp. But the stock speaker was way thinny sounding. The Weber Thames has brought the biggest improvement of all. Yes, bends and vibrato... getting slightly better every day. So do the settings on the pedal board. :) Cheers

  • Man, using a mirror is a really good idea! Wish I'd thought of that when I made mine! Haha (No sarcasm)

  • excellent sounds its one thing to get the right tone but a fair % is in the actual playing gilmours vibrato is special you captured it here

  • @centralscrutinizer9

Wow, thank you! Well, I guess my finger vibrato isn't all that bad and the way I hit the strings dynamically... but I need to improve the vibrato with the trem arm... It's not crap but still could be more gilmourish... :)

  • Very good tone and playing. Thanks for video!!

  • @unknow75

Thank you very much. I hope the next one will be even better, specially in terms of playing ;)

  • Hey good video....You have got a pretty good sound! Your playing is quite good, but I didn't notice you 'cross pick' at all. Just a bit of constructive criticism - If you worked on your cross picking' your playing would improve loads and its already quite good..nice vibrato....good timing etc..... keep it up.. thanks for sharing this video, really enjoyed it :-)

  • @russmdwalker

Thx for the compliment. Yes, you are right. I think it's all downstrokes on the vid. My crosspicking isn't particularly good (anymore). Well, it used to be quite okay a couple of years ago. I'm currently returning to my beloved sixstring after a longer break. Just give me a little more time and everything will improve :)

  • dude, u look nervous - relax.. ure doing good job playing and the sound is good too. also kudos for posting all that info - it is very useful for anyone that wants to play pf

  • @kgugalov

hehe, I tend to get nervous (and play worse) if I know it's beeing recorded... and I was worried about hitting the right stomps at the right time... and that my better half would return before I was through with that little session ^^ Glad you like it and even find it useful in any way :)

  • Wow Amazing Tone from heaven - I have one question what kind of Reverb you use ? if Any? or just your other effects gave it depth.

    thank you and good job!

  • @TheSquierTech

Thx!! I guess it's a combination of the amp's reverb (which is a nice one imho, that wouldn't color the sound too much), plus the choice of delay (I took the "smooth" one on the DD-20, which sounds way ambient), plus the natural room sound of my living room. Though there is a close mic to be seen, I didn't use that track for the vid. The actual mic was around 6 feet away from the amp. Hmm... but I must say I'm not (anymore) that blown away by the ambience and depth on the vid...

  • Genio!

  • @MagoChok, @AutoPilotDeLorean, @diogofranco9, @Rozq87:

Thank you guys... glad you like it :)

But believe me, the more often you listen to it, the more details you will find that need to be improved... school's never over ;)

  • Sounds great... And.. Clever use of a mirror...

  • Nice work Starbuckz666, a really good sound. Good luck to you and never give up!! =)

  • the tones are superb!!! amazing!! cheers

  • what are the delay settings for comfortably numb?? plz sir

  • @HybridStoner ~600ms and ~4 repeats. Delay type "smooth" on the DD-20, which is way ambient sounding. But take into consideration that there is also some verb from the amp to be heard, plus the amp is not close miced, so there is some ambience from my livingroom on it too. Actually I thought that the delays are the least accurate in this vid :)

  • Just did click on your link of the gilmourish site.

    Nice tone and playing!

I am considering a Laney for playing at home.

    How do you like it?

  • ... und in Deutch:Toller sound :-)

    Grüße und Shine On!

  • @jdiuurdfsds huh, Ernest... just noticed that this is you :) Thanks for your nice comments. Much appreciated, since I know you are an experienced gilmourish tone hunter.

  • @Starbuckz666 Thanks :-)

  • @jdiuurdfsds The CUB12r is a cool little amp... and it has indeed some Hiwatty tone. My combo went through some mods (tubes + speaker). The stock speaker wasn't all that bad but a little thin. I replaced it with a Weber Thames (of course ;) ... The hights have become thicker and overall the sound has become darker, perhaps a little too much. Well, I like it that way. However, the stock speaker was more versatile and imho better for heavy sounds. The Weber is more Gilmour (but a darkish one :)

  • Great tone. One problem: get your guitar in tune and be more acurate on the bendings. You are on the right path ....:) Good job.

  • @ricseixas

Thx for your feedback. Playing wasn't all that flowently when I did the recording. There are some phrasing issues too, that sometimes result in timing issues. Wrong pickup positions on three parts... Vibe and delays are barely audible here and there... Well, I'm aware of the shortcomings and I'm willing to do better next time :)

  • Really nice job man! Nice tones!

I think a guy must be deaf to dislike this!

  • @tullivinicci grazie mille :) well, my better half does dislike PF in general... but, lucky me, she could resist hitting the bad button ^^

  • Great way to present the visuals (split screens), great playing and tone settings.

  • @POCPerth

yeah, that's digital sound, digital vid but analog split screens :))

thanks for your feedback. there are some glitches in my playing... but nothing too serious I guess. still learning :)

  • Fantastic job.....excellent tone, perfect.

  • @Luccaguitar

huh, now you got me blushing... thanks man :)

  • Klasse!!! I love it!

  • @1976Akula

    thx :)

  • Yay, still making progress... Just found out that I don't need the MXR style compressor on 'What Do You Want From Me' if I give it some EXG (from the EMG DG-20 pickup system) instead. So, no more noise issue on that song :)

Plus, I found out that another pickup position helps to get the 'Time' solo tone even *PULSier*...

  • nur geil!

  • @Wennto1973

    merci :)
