  • I've read books that are kind of random... They don't always have to have an overlying goal.

  • he had t have sex t survive lol i love it =) joke

so far i'm understanding more about structuring a story.

  • I love this- really helping me with my writing. I'm going through all of these videos and don't be surprised if I have questions on most of them. :)

Is it wise for a character to have more than one goal? Maybe two or three stronger goals, and then some separate "sub-goals"? Or should it be one clear, strong goal or desire?

  • @thelucaspaul2 Either way is fine, but there should be one clear goal laid out once the adventure starts. In Star Wars, this was Luke needing to stop Vadar. Frodo needing to destroy the ring. Bella needing to get with Edward. In Silence of the Lambs, it was Clarice needing to save that woman from Buffalo Bill, but also it was needing to advance in the FBI. So it is best when her outer desire conflicts with her inner desire, forcing her to choose between advancement and saving the girl.

  • @architectus777 Sure, thanks a lot for the advice man.

  • omg thank you this is so helpful, i feel like all my frustrations have been washed away.

  • I dont really get the desire part?

The story you are mentioning for instance:

You explicitly say that the goal is what the character strive for and that in this case to get money so he can survive by fixing his boat; but to me that sounds like a desire?

Im thinking that the GOAL of this story is first to get crabs, then to return the sisters?

his needs; love, to get over the death of his wife?

    I find this frustratingly unclear.

  • @s031720 Sometimes goal and desire are the same thing. It should become more clear as you go along.

  • excellent teaching tool!

  • beautiful story the fisherman thing

who were the fools who voted against this story>?

  • Monkey Wrench= to "fork in the road"

  • Wow this is just great I was having hard time to create my own novel i can't seem to Finnish it!
