@Tobytwirl1000 So this was a real jam session. No one neither Jack nor Rory talked about jamming before. When I asked Jack sitting and resting backstage first floor after his p/voc solo show before Rory started to play on same stage if he would mind to come back down to the stage for jamming with Rory he asked me after putting on his ocker jacket if Rory'd know 'Politican' I couldn't affirm that but it was just an usual blues form so they did it after Jack sang him the theme...
no denying there is alot of talent here, but the really does nothing for me. the playing is real good, but it all feels like a blues band that all sounds alike. I find bands like the who,JH experience, doors,JA,cure, and golden earring far more interesting. i could mention so many others but run out of space. no disrespect to the playing ablility, but not interesting music. please criticize my comment if you like. i wont be the first guy to hit dislike button at least.
I don't like this song but the jam that starts about halfway through is superb. Rory and Jacks improv skills are top notch!!! 2 of the best british bluesmen
First and definitely foremost - thanks for putting this up.
No fantasy - I knew Jack Bruce a bit (serviced his car[s]) and followed Rory like a lovesick teenager all over Britain. I'll never forget the surreal, empty streets of Ireland as I worked over every speed limit in Cork trying to get home and see him on TV. In the end I settled for a pub. It was like church, only a whole lot better. As for Jack - one notch less on the ego and he would have ruled the world, but Winwood did for him.
this should be the encore of Rory's concert in Cologne, Germany October 17, 1990, where Jack Bruce (Cream) joined him onstage at the end of the show ...
Rory died after a liver transplant, do you know ( or think) he needed it because he drank too much??? If you don't know for sure, or can't prove it for sure, SHUT THE F*** UP. We are not talking about good ole Uncle Buck who got drunk at every family function. There has probably been a few people that needed liver transplants whether they were drinkers or not. I have heard repeatedly that Rory did not condone drinking and/or doping while making this incredible music......
@sfpw Being in a band in Ireland is much the same now as it was in rorys time especially if your playing the blues, you go play a gig and after you get drunk, and if you were rory gallagher imagine the amount of people that want to buy you a drink, the same with bands like the dubliners and others around that time they all had problems with booze. Plus theres nothing better to do in Ireland apart from get drunk and listen to Rory
Both of them had liver transplants after years of booze. Such a waste of talent.
I swear many top players somehow mix up the "power" of their rigs with their bodies, whose youthful strength they do nothing to maintain, and everything to ruin.
@Drblooter99 Rory was reputed to be a light drinker. Apparently he had a bad throw of the dice, genetically. It looks like he also put on some weight.
What a band this would have been ...awesome ....playing in this vein ...WOW ....THEY COMPLIMENT EACH OTHER AS WELL AS JACK AND ERIC DID ...ITS ALMOST EVEN TIGHTER THAN THAT !!!!
Once in 1969,when jimi hendrix was at the top, some interviewer asked hendrix :how does it feel being the best guitar player in the world, hendrix answered: I don´t know, you´re gonna have to ask Rory Gallagher....
bruce is an amazing musician but I find this song kinda annoying. But Rory Gallagher makes this performance. My favourite musician. I never tire of his music.
What I love about this is that Rory played it his way with no Clapton references he acted like he had never heard the Cream version just played his licks ...and what unique licks he had ...very irish ....very much Rory ...he is in my top 5 of all time favorites .....I saw him play 3 times and each time made a lasting impression on me ...and Brendan ONeil did a heck of a job on this .....I wish they had toured together ...this would have been a hell uv a band ....!!!!
@TearGasfaeGlesca This is amazing Rory had no idea what this song was til seconds before they went on stage! He was a genius, and he was so happy with that guitar in his hands,I could watch him play & smile all night long! Love Jack Bruce too of course, one of the best ever ♥
To be fair, Rory didn't need to know what this song was before he played it because it's just a 12 bar blues, which he could play in his sleep, and Jack handled the riff.
this is music is all about - LISTENING to each other, many guitarists wouldn't come close to this even if they practised this song for weeks, and those guys just made it up...
Jack and Rory are definetly into a groove. It takes an accomplished (non bass)guitar player to play alongside Jack. Frank, Robin, and Eric are the only three others offhand that I know of. Where are the frets on Jack's bass?
oohhh yeahhh wilsu 5 good sounding quality video !! really thx !! Original video recording I saw it on a other file seem to be 1990 I forgive jack's mustard costume :D because : his sound, his voice, his groove, his play, he's fretless, really prefere this faster version! (as the recorded/cream one) great music by good musicians, great vid' yihhaaaaaaaa
Ah, Rory Gallagher at Rockpalast, way back - who knows when - watched it on TV. Got an old VHS Tape recording of that, but the quality is awful. So thank you for uploading!
ACE!!!

Star of the show is definitely Jack Bruce. Keeps a solid groove while the guitar is pretty sporadic, but he's also got some nasty chops!

@Drblooter99 Jack handled the riff all right! But the riff's better when the guitar plays it in unison w/the bass

@mrJimCharles
Yes, that was my point. I was replying to someone who said Rory learned the riff really quick. I don't think Rory did learn it properly!
