I'm fairly sure torches never expire, but their viewing range always sucks. The Radiant spell expires but gives you 3 blocks in every direction around you for viewing. Far more useful especially in the dragon lord's castle :P

if you think those are bastards try killing a Plat King in the DS remake of DQ IV! I THINK I killed all like...2 of them when I played that but the Metals in this ,and the series itself are a royal pain for sure. In the past 2 weeks, I've finished the first 3 dragon warrior games, which I haven't played since I was a kid, maybe 7 or so.
Most people think DW2 was the worst, but I think it beats the crap out of this game. DW1 is just a grind-fest, it's just the same thing over and over for 15 hours. And you have to use the "stairs" command to climb stairs? That part grates on me too.
I still have nightmares about wasting hours just trying to level up and keeping my fingers crossed, hoping to get silver slimes and hoping they don't run away...

@somesillynoob 24 is the level for Dragonlord defeating. Stopspell the healers/incapacitators (red enemies), put the big dumb stuff to sleep (gray enemies), run as much as you can if you're going to the bottom, and if you get down to 14 MP flee. You'll have a trouble-free visit to Charlock.
Hello, I need help deciding if I should give the Dragon Quest a try but i have a hard time deciding where to start. which Dragon Quest games can you recommend (DQ 1-9)
@toaker My favorites were 3, 4, and 8, but I haven't played 6, 7, and 9. Out of those, I would recommend either 8 (PS2) or 4 (NES, remake DS). 8 is the most modern DQ game I've played and would be a way to ease yourself into the series. 4 is my favorite, but you do need to make allowances for playing a 20-year-old game. A lot of people prefer 5 to 4; not me.
I heavily recommend playing DQ3 after DQ1, but DQ1 is tedious (he glossed over the grinding). I do not recommend DQ2.
if James the Nintendo Nerd did this, he would talk about having shit come out of his dick. Aqualung, you do a great job. Keep it up, despite your hiatus.
Instead of buying a club and clothes for my first set of equipment, I always found it better to get small shield, clothes, and bamboo pole giving me MUCH higher defense (which you REALLY REALLY need during your first few levels). The cost of those three items just happens to come to 120 gold which is what you start off with.
Lucky enough to have played this when it came out on the NES. All of my friends hated it and made fun of me for playing it. I love this game.

3; when you wonder around you see new towns where there is more new items which are more expensive

Holy fuck. I don't know how I happened upon this, but this brings me waaaaaaaaay back. The music, the enemies... fuckin' nostalgic. I don't think I've even given this game a thought since 1988. Forgot all about it. Dynamite channel.

I have game genie cheats for it "infinite mana" FTW! this game is classic RPG action, but I am too big of a coward to go into the base. (even though I am level 24)

@somesillynoob 24 is the level for Dragonlord defeating. Stopspell the healers/incapacitators (red enemies), put the big dumb stuff to sleep (gray enemies), run as much as you can if you're going to the bottom, and if you get down to 14 MP flee. You'll have a trouble-free visit to Charlock.

Hello, I need help deciding if I should give the Dragon Quest a try but i have a hard time deciding where to start. which Dragon Quest games can you recommend (DQ 1-9)

@toaker My favorites were 3, 4, and 8, but I haven't played 6, 7, and 9. Out of those, I would recommend either 8 (PS2) or 4 (NES, remake DS). 8 is the most modern DQ game I've played and would be a way to ease yourself into the series. 4 is my favorite, but you do need to make allowances for playing a 20-year-old game. A lot of people prefer 5 to 4; not me.
I heavily recommend playing DQ3 after DQ1, but DQ1 is tedious (he glossed over the grinding). I do not recommend DQ2.

Instead of buying a club and clothes for my first set of equipment, I always found it better to get small shield, clothes, and bamboo pole giving me MUCH higher defense (which you REALLY REALLY need during your first few levels). The cost of those three items just happens to come to 120 gold which is what you start off with.
