The bass is pretty clear through earphones or a good speaker system.....after all, it was mixed by a bass player (me). S0ometimes I worry about mixing myself too hot and pull back a bit, but certainly never at the expense of being able to hear it at all.

I tried to give the tune strong drums, even re-mixing it to make the bass drum more prominent. I've heard a couple things about recording metal, and one of them is obnoxiously loud drums, and the other is obnoxiously loud guitar. Since I am a bass player with a kick-ass vocalist, I had to balance all of them to make all instruments clearly heard, but always keeping those two prime rules in mind while doing it.

Thanks....and as far as the pick thing goes, I very famously do not give much of a hoot how anything is supposed to be played. Breaking the rules is what my style is all about, both melodically and stylistically.

My "process" involves having listened to the song and played along with it for many years in the best case scenario like this tune. When that occurs, I hear all kinds of bass parts that are not part of the song yet. So when I start playing it for the purposes of recording, I need the control necessary to execute exactly what I envision..and a lot of it is fast.

I started as a pick player, and I am the fastest and most accurate with that tool.

I (personally) like to hear a voice working on its own a little more, with less layering, compression, etc in the sound. Your effects make it a little metallic sounding, as well as layering it for harmony.

I don't think you would...sounds too fake. I have that capability in my processor, but I only use the processor for EQ, gain, and a touch of compression. Every now and again I have a distorted channel I use.
