Even as a Roughriders fan, I always respected the job Mr. Ackles had done. Riders and Lions fans may have their differences, but we can agree Bob helped make this league what it is today. RIP Bob.

I love football (both CFL and NFL) and I love hockey, but for some reason the CFL is just different to me, maybe it's because these guys are just blue collar workers and that I can relate too.... The likes of Ron Lancaster and Bob Ackles are perfect role models; too bad other sports personal lack the character that is found in the people that make the CFL. Eskie Nation salutes you!

This really captures the essence of both Bob Ackles, and of the CFL. Like the CFL itself, Bob Ackles never quit believing and always kept up the fight, through good times and bad. The CFL really owes its existence to men like Bob Ackles, and this video is a good start towards acknowledging and thanking those builders. Mark Cohon obviously "gets it" when it comes to honouring the league's history. This is truly OUR league...

Bob Ackels was a legendary figure in the history of the BC Lions and the CFL. As a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan, I also remember Mr. Ackels as one of the architects of the grat Cowboys teams of the 90's. His tenure in Dallas bridged the Landry-Schramm and Jones-Johnson periods. In the early 90's, Ackels helped Jones and Johnson manage drafts that established the foundation that led to three Super Bowl titles in four years. Bob Ackels was a key figure in the life of two leagues.
