He ran away from the player several times, and you fought him and beat him mutiple times as well. You said to yourself: "He'll either be a mini-boss, or Gesthal will kill him if he steps out of line."
The fact that he had no skill makes you hate him even more for becoming the god of Magic.

@Rezzenator His appearance is actually not that of a clown but rather a man trying to dress up as a woman, Woolsey translated him very much as a clown, but in the original japanese script, Kefka is actually an effeminate, insane man, talking in a very feminine, polite way while also cursing, yelling at his men, translating him is very hard because of that. Woolsey translated the whole game wrong, inventing lines, so did Sky Render, the GBA version is a little more accurate but still not quite.
I might be mistaken but wasnt Kefka some kind of test tube experiment as well. I didnt have the patient to finish the game on account of every 3 steps u take turns into a random battle but i think at the Imperial Capitol something along was lines was mentioned

With him as part of the Lifestream and all of it going to a concentrated area, it could effectively bring his return and he'd be able to take in the powers of a god he desired. The intention was to leave a massive crater in it and then he could be at the centre of this massive amount of damage made to the planet so that when the planet tried to heal itself using the lifestream he could become one with the planet. Why there are so many haters on Sephiroth,I never get it,is it because he too nice and some people are jealous I dont know I dont get it and especially Kefka Fans,me my favorite FF villain is Sephiroth and I dont hate on Kefka not one bit I like Kefka.Anyway if some peoples can explain me why haters hate on Sephiroth I'd like to hear it.

@thechristianbeast unfortionatley its kinda impossible to find out as the maker of the fight will have an opinional interest favouring the one he cheers for meaning that the favoured will win. besides its not that important they are both awesome and if they realy where to battle im sure their battle would destroy the entire earth (especialy when they use comet magick :/)

The minute Celes stabbed Kefka, he snapped. The reason I hated Sephiroth was by the little you knew, you knew how predictable he was. If you met Kefka and Sephiroth and these really happen, you'd shit yourself when the earth cracks open beneath your neighbor's house, swallows them, then pushes together, then drifts apart as opposed to a burnt city, because one is more random and unexpected. Kefka started the coward who wanted to rule, he was later the god that was worshiped by many

No offense dude, but I hate VII regardless and see Sephiroth as crap compared to Kefka. Sephiroth was predictable, kill the guy's girl to piss him off and manipulate him, then try to be a god. Kefka wanted to rule with Gestahl but they entrusted Celes at last second to stab the rest of the party. She took the sword and stabbed Kefka, Kefka said "Blood" and flipped the hell out, then decided to use the statues to entirely deface the earth. You're half correct: He changed motives there

@RoseDarkDragoon No, he was trying to crash the meteor into the planet to wound the planet. The planet would have to use the life stream to heal itself from such a huge injury, and he could "become one with the planet" as hey says.

@thejesman He wasn't trying to destroy it. A meteor doesn't obliverate a planet. The intention was to leave a massive crater in it and then he could be at the centre of this massive amount of damage made to the planet so that when the planet tried to heal itself using the lifestream he could become one with the planet. It's not the same thing.

@thejesman Possibly very true, but the original guy I replied to said that Sephiroth tried to reduce the planet to nothingness and I was just correcting him and saying that's a bit wrong and kind of over simplifying it. To be honest neither of them are my favorite FF villains but I don't like when people compare the two and whine about how crap one of the games is or how crap one of the villains is.

1) Kuja (Hands down, destroys a WHOLE planet)
2) Sephiroth (He gets WAY too much crap. basically destroys a WHOLE solar system, haunts cloud even off-screen and the fact that he is invincible with mako and jenova cells)

Why are all the FF6 and FF7 fans bickering? FF6 was the end of old school awesomeness and FF7 was the start of the new FF style (ie. graphics, battle sequence, etc)... which SquareEnix took WAAAAY too far and fucked up..
