You cut out the only part worth watching in this scene! Where Hector says, "You speak of war as if it's a game, but how many wifes wait at Troy's gates for husbands they'll never see again." Hector was great in this movie, the most honourable and admirable character, apparently the only humanised character that actually had a conscience...Douchebaggish Achilles -.-
i love how achilles is so interested of his name to be remembered after his death.... i agree on that with him... we will all live, we will all die and we will not even choose the way to do so... but how many of us will be remembered, and for what? will they be remembered for something good like scientists ex. Einstein or for something bad like treason ex. Judas? it's not enough only your name to be remembered, but also to be for a good reason and not as an example to avoid.
@randomizraelite He gives off the impression that if he's devoted to kill you, nothing you do will or anyone else can do will stop him. Achilles didn't care much about the war either, remember it was only when he heard his name would be remembered forever that he went with the Greeks.
These are the parts that truly make Achilles look like a badass, even more so than when he's fighting. "I could kill yo right now without even breaking a sweat, but I've killed enough of you for one day. Go home, fuck your wife, get drunk and tomorrow, I will kill you."
@pat5168 LMFAO he remind me of gannicus from spartacus lol just that gannicus didnt care as much for fighting and achilles would kick his ass and the entire ludus for that matter
@xXxEDUXxX16 If he was invulnerable, that would be obvious not from his gaze, but because the arrow wouldn't be able to hurt him. He DIED because of these arrows and you say he was invulnerable? Isn't it a bit weird?
Achilles (in the movie) is not invulnerable, he is just extremely good warrior and has taken no wound in all his battles. (The same happens in the Iliad, where only once Achilles receives a small wound from a warrior named Asteropaios).
@xXxEDUXxX16 Fuck you moron, you have no proof of his invulnerability in the movie.. And in the movie he clearly stated he is vulnerable right in the beginning so just shut the fuck up
@Mordor6121512 HEY FUCKING TROLL YOU MUST BE A FUCKFACE TO INSULT FROM YOUR COMPUTER FUCKING PUSSY YOU UGLY ASSBITCH MOTHERFUCKER YOUR MOTHER IS A BITCH AND SUCK MY DICK EVERYDAY FUCKING TROLL KILL YOURSELF FUCKING NIGGER...
@jjgarcia1990 In the movie Achilles did not have his vulnerable heel, he was vulnerable in all parts of his body.. Noticed how gods and demi-gods did not appear in the movie?
@Mordor6121512 Achilles alluded to the existence of the gods. When speaking to Briseis he says "I know more about the gods than your priests. I've SEEN them!"
@Mordor6121512 When did he get hurt besides the ending? He gets shot in the heel, only THEN he becomes vunerable enough to die. And dies. I hate the ending!
@Mordor6121512 well not 100% truth, the arrow which landed on his heel make him suffer the most, you can see by the reaction. and even brad pitt said that this is the moment that will be never accepted by him because it show exactly opposite thing. as you said he should me just like others in movie but with the scene im talking about they did just mess things up and we dont really know (atlkeast i dont) how to interpret it correctly. sorry for my english
@jjgarcia1990 It wasn't that he was indestructible, it just that he was such a great warrior without a scratch that people back then thought he must've been invincible. When he was found dead with just so happen an arrow through his heel, they assumed that must've been his only weakness.
Hector probably knew he was going to lose, but he had honor. He fought for honor, his people, his land, his king, his family. Achilles wanted only glory.
@jjgarcia1990 The whole Achilles' heel thing was not in this movie you shithead.. Besides, Achilles was not indestructible, its not even mentioned in the Illiad so get your fucking facts straight you moron..
@Mordor6121512 They didn't explicitly say only his heel was vulnerable. @ the beginning the boy said "they say you can't be killed." Achilles answered "I wouldn't be bothering with the shield then, would I?" Makes you think he's not invincible. He speaks with his mother and she says "I knew before you were born that they would come for you to fight in Troy." She told him that after all the wars he's survived, he would die in Troy if he went, but would also be remembered 4ever. Prophesy?
Achillies knew the truth that they would be remembered, Hector was fighting for troy but he never expected anything to come of his life except for being a family man, so he wasn't as powerful or as forceful as Achillies who fought to establish himself in history and legend. however I think he should have killed hector right here, then the greeks would have had little trouble tsaking troy.
@MAnnaconduit1 I think the fight would have been alot more even had Achilles fought him there because Hector was angry from the slaughter of the priests, and if the Myrmidons didn't interfere, might have been able to kill Achilles there.
yeah i supoose, however even if he did kill achillies the myrmidons would have killed him, then he would not have been able to save poor little paris from his death, and the war would have been over due to greece winning the battle of honour rather than the trojans violating the honour and interfearing casuing the war that eventually destroyed them and killed thousands of soldiers.
@MAnnaconduit1 Yes, but if both Hector and Achilles were dead, then Paris might not have made the bargain to duel Menelaus. If the Greeks fought without Achilles, and the Trojans without Hector, the war may never have ended, or the Greeks may have been forced to leave.
In Illiad, Menelaus won the war together with anothers greeks leaders. Not die in hands of Hector like movie Troy. Menelaus still was alive when the greeks beat the trojans with the troy´s horse.
@SuperBajack Nah, Achilles was the world's greatest warrior at that point.. Did you see his fight with Hector? Hector kept making the first move yet ended up using his shield more often.. Remember what Achilles told him inside the temple.. "What's the point in killing you when there is nobody to see you die?".. Hector was a strong and great warrior, but Achilles was the only one better
@SuperBajack Achilles won because he was the better warrior.. Anger just shows more agression, Achilles and Hector were showing their fighting skills.. Sure Achilles was angry but at the same time when it came down to the fight it was all about skill and strength, not just mere agression
@Mordor6121512 Achilles didn't have the definitive upper hand in the fight until Hector was tripped over the rock and had his movement impeded afterwards. Had that not happened, the fight could have gone on much longer.
@SuperBajack Achilles always had the upper hand in the fight except for the moment when Hector just put a scratch on Achilles' armor.. Hector kept on using his shield blocking Achilles, and Achilles was fighting with the shield on his back.. Basically, Hector just showed that he is nothing without his shield.. Hector even had two weapons after he tripped giving him an advantage yet he still could not touch Achilles.. Achilles killed Hector the moment he took Hector's broken spear..
@Mordor6121512 Two weapons means nothing if you aren't trained in how to fight with two weapons (as Hector clearly wasn't) and if your movement is hampered (which Hector's clearly was). That Hector relied more on his shield than Achilles is attributable to the fact that he is bigger than Achilles and therefore not as quick, needing his shield, and that his style may have been more shield reliant and defensive than Achilles'.
@SuperBajack Hector and Achilles were both around the same height.. And Hector's movement wasn't all that hampered he still got up and kept making the first move on Achilles.. But clearly, Achilles was the winner..
@SuperBajack thats a bunch of bullshit "trained to use 2 weapons"...seriously? lol now your just making excuses had achilles had 2 weapons you would have said it wasnt fair for hector but when hector has 2 its a disadvantage to hector? lol and he is not that much bigger theyre relatively the same size, and he looked fine after he tripped over the rock its not like his ankle was broken, and you can tell achilles is much more agile simply on how he jumps and strikes
@SuperBajack Hektor was fatigued. That's why he lost his footing and tripped. Even if he wasn't trained to use 2 weapons, he lunged at Achilles, Achilles stuck his arm in Hektor's chest stopping him, and then shoved him backward. Even without training, Hektor should have at least attempted to cut Achilles' arm while Achilles was pushing him. Hektor was dead tired. You could see him gasping for air.
@tdylan You make a good point, but was Achilles not a better athlete in generell? Vulnerable or not he was to skilled when it came to fighting thus making him impossible to beat. Hector did look tired in the fight he had with Achilles, but was he not he would still have lost would he not?
@Jonzer1983 Yes, Achilles was ultimately better. Achilles made several killing strikes that Hektor was able to avoid, but the difference was Achilles' conditioning. Achilles was on offense most of the time. Hektor could only defend or attempt to counter. Achilles pushed the pace and Hektor could not keep up. Hektor got desperate and made some lunges that sapped what energy he had left. You could see the desperation on his face.
@tdylan Actually, if you look close at the fight in the movie, hector had a 100% kill chance, that is when he drew his sword, he swings it at the throat of achilles, no sword, no shield, nothing, achilles barely got away (and moans load) at this one, he was off guard for a moment. That is even before he manages to scratch achilles armor (pointless), but the throat killing blow also got patrokles. Achilles was lucky :-)
@tomtom34b this is a movie...the truth is that Achilles was a DEMI-GOD, no one could defeat him, Hector had no chance to win against him, in every kind of situation or battle-type, HE was simply the best warrior in the entire world, born to fight and win all his battles, until his point of weakness was revelead. THAT's how it is, Hector was a great warrior, but nothing compared to son of Thetis
@ithas89 For the homeric thought the origin from a god is not so important as we may think, because the divine & the mortal world are close to one another.
In fact, there are a lot of other warriors in the Iliad who come from gods superior to Thetis, but they are not capable of fighting against Achilles.
E.g. Aeneas is Aphrodite's son and Eudorus is Hermes' son; the 2nd one is one of Achilles' lieutenants. Both were great gods (they were in the dodecatheon), while Thetis was just a nereid.
so funny , achilles is such a gentleman
