  • i sure hope the audience was told to dance like that

  • I have see JSBE the first one in 1998 on the Arezzo Wave main stage.....UNBELIEVABLE GIG.

  • This is insant, how can these douche bags try and dance to this, i'd be freaking out.

  • Total fucking brilliance! I used to watch my VHS recording of this repeatedly...love this upload but, what you're missing is the quality of their sound. Most of all, Russell's pounding at 1:52 ... Heart Stopping!

  • Wow! I'm glad someone has posted this. I can't remember how many times I watched my VHS recording.

I started with Extra Width then Orange, Crypt Style, Now I got Worry, Mo Width and the love affair ended with Acme. Slightly out of order regards release dates. I saw them live in Glasgow too and they were funny and Judah wore the tightest trousers I've ever seen.

    Excellent post, thanks.

  • I am an old bastard; seen a lot of bands... and I will say with enormous confidence, these guys rock. If you like what ya hear, make no mistake, this band delivers on the live shows. I've seen them many times and they ALWAYS deliver. Truly one of the best live acts ever.

  • 2:07 OH LAWD...THATS WHAT IM TALKIN ABOUT...THATS WHAT WE CAME FOR...and then the lil guy at the end..blarBLARFANTASTIC...erBESTBANDEVAHBLARBLARBLAR...cute.

  • would be nice if this video was embeddable.. thanks.

  • @ArvidFalk86 - ok - set to allow embedding now! i think....

  • get everything, seriously, its worth it, except their last album Damage which was pretty weak

  • A 5 star Alternative Rock band song: Afro - The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion [New York, New York] - 1993 - "AMG Pick. The polluted funk of 'Afro,' from 1993, contains sampled flute sounds, a monolithic bass vamp, and a B-3 cranking over the wah-wah guitar. Good first impression on this Funky song." - Extra Width (Matador)-1993.

  • exta width!

  • this is just amazing

  • saw em this same year in houston with the roots and the beasties at the old summit (home of the rockets). they blew my mind striaght out to the gulf of mexico. blues explosion IS!

  • i can't wait to see them at pitchfork

  • i can't wait to see them at pitchfork

  • Saw them supporting Beastie Boys during the UK tour spring '95, several times! Man, they were on FIRE!

  • look how young jon spencer and judah bauer are.

  • The best thing to appear on The Word.

....except Lynne Perrie, maybe. : )

  • number 1 blue

  • Would there be lsd in that coke i'm drinking? GREAT vid

  • psychedelic man!

  • THis is INSANE HOT !!!!

  • Elvis tripping on acid.

  • ...no, "Orange", yes

  • "Extra Width" and "Mo' Width"

  • that was FRIKKEN SWEEEEEEET!

  • Orange

  • For some reason lately, I decided, entirely out of the blue to look up some Jon Spencer Blues Explosion (I think it might have been watching Beavis and Butthead talking over "Dang" on a DVD, thought the song itself sounded cool).

Anyway, having heard a bit more, I wanna get an album or two of theirs. What's the best one to start at?

  • "orange" or "extra width"

  • @toffeethecat

GOTTA HAVE XTRA-ACME!!!!!!!! GOT TO GOT TO! Now I got worry" is fucking sick too

  • I like "acme" the most.

  • @toffeethecat I really dug, "Now I Got Worry". But I can find things to like about most that they done did.

  • ACME and Now I Got Worried are both awsome too... =)

  • @PantheonLincoln You cant go wrong with those at all, but i like 'Now I Got Worry' the best.

  • @timmychaos that one really had to grow on me, yes? but now it is one of my faves, as well...but just tonight I was rocking out to Extra Acme and oh how I do love that too...sigh.

  • @PantheonLincoln now i got worry - by far the best

  • @PantheonLincolnThe early Jon Spencer is the best.listen to The Honeymoon Killers,Pussy Galore and Boss Hog first .Then play The Blues Explosion. Enjoy.

  • It's possiblly the best ever example of rock and roll on British televisison ever, like Elvis on fuckin' DMT, sublime, pure, fuckin rock and roll!

  • I saw them 3x and need, neeeed, NEED these guys to tour again.....I miss their live shows.

  • God damn, I would give anything to have seen these guys live at least once :(

  • BLUES EXPLOSION!!!

  • "the word" there's a whole load of shite i'll never be sad to see the back of!! may terry christian burn in hell!

  • Goddamn, I must have a theramin.

  • there is something one must understand about jsbx. they are number 1. they didnt get to be number 1 without being 100% hip. this is the gold standard in rock and roll. and the gold standard in music video. its science fact.

  • Spoken well....Gopal Raaaaaaooouuu!!!

  • it's all right, ALRIGHT!! It's an afro!

  • blues explosion #1! Gimmie more!

  • @markallenkellner i understand what you're saying, but there is so much (mostly black) musical history that these guys filtered (hence the name "blues explosion" while freely admitting they weren't playing the blues) into what they were doing that to call them "precursor" is a big disservice to all who came before. strictly semantic argument. i'm not about to say there would likely have been a white stripes without a pussy galore/jsbx. and this particular album is huuuuuuuuuuge.

  • Comment removed

  • @markallenkellner sure, i know - we are in agreement, no arguing here. i was just pointing out that there's a world of music where jsbx found it before passing it along to the stripes.

  • Comment removed

  • @markallenkellner then one would think you'd get my point about the use of the term "precursor" sort of dismissing a whole world of r'n'b. like i said, just a moinor semantic point. hard to have a friendly conversation these days, ain't it? really really not here to argue. take care, i'm out.

  • looks like that "groove is in the house" video.

  • uh....that's Groove is in the heart..by deelite..feat. bootsy collins.. :D..yeah cool late 80's early 90's psychedelic effects in there... Man he's fucking with the theremin on that ! NICE good to see them rocking hard live and just doing it.. no B.S. really cool footage...thanks I don't really care about the props in the video..they did work for Matador..not exactly a indie label at this point

  • Incredible, what a band!

Big regrets never being able to see them live.

  • These payed fake dancers in the close ups are just embarrasing for this group. Aaaack

  • Wow.. fucking wow

    Thanks so much for sharing

  • BLUES EXPLOSION!!!

  • Wooch greaaat vid' man, never seen it before.

    JSBX for the win !

  • So stupid/awesome.

  • coolest use of a theremin ever!

  • I saw this when originally broadcast and a love affair was born. "Play the blues, punk!" Yeah!

  • the sheer amount of cool these people transmit, makes me not worry about global worming !

  • @vladlovesceltic haha!

don't worry about global warming...the toxins in our air, water, and food from all the pollution will either kill you quickly or make the price of health care so high (thanks to the supply and demand amendment) that you will die a slow and painful death before we drown or bake.

  • @vladlovesceltic i KNOW its been 3 years..but i worry about global worming too! still!

  • Nice black Telecaster too. Wicked.

  • Holy fucking shitnuts! How has this existed for 14 years without me realizing? AWESOME

  • feb 11th 1994 !

    i got the same video

  • Yes Yes YES! That is one hell of a performance! I'm sure some of those dancers didn't know what hit em.

  • oh my god - that could be the coolest thing I have ever seen.

  • Result

This is one of the best performances from the word ever. I remember it as if it were yesterday. It totally blew me away, and still does.

Far bestter than the recorded version too.

  • the blues is number one!!!
