@fantagefreak100 That is true. You could still see meteors over a city but very rarely. OTOH it is possible to see one or more every night in places with minimal light pollution.

i saw a couple of shooting stars just 4 days ago. now i thought there was supposed to be a meteor shower a few weeks ago but it mustve been late cuz as an amateur astronomer i look out for these things, and it was the most spectacular and once in a lifetime experience ive ever had. its like seeing michael jackson perform LIVE. u get such a thrill of excitment and u want more and youll never ever forget it!

Mid august is the annual peak for shooting stars. The Perseid Meteor shower. Usually you can spot up to 100 meteors per hour. This years peak was Aug 12 2009. Sadly around Wash DC there was complete cloud cover.

hey last night i was looking for shooting stars it was around in the hour off 11pm i saw a white light shoot across the sky like those fireworks that spin of the ground did i see a shooting star or a little comet i made a wish thou :) Lol

Comets don't come that easy , if there is one in the sky you'll see it in the paper too. 200 years is considered a fast orbit for a comet. A shooting star on the other hand is a meteor and you can see several in one night [or not] . I hear they are more in the sky in november.
