Its an unfortunate thing- out where i am now, it is not appreciated much. I am damn near the only girl in my club that does pole dancing anymore- men here just want to see your clothes off, and see your goodies. I myself worked hard to do what I can- and while it may make no sense as far as the art goes, I really try to look out for new girls. I discourage them from it. At least there. I tell them to go take some classes, save up, and become an instructor.

@panospaneron i don't really see why it should not be though. high bars, regular acrobatics, floor exercise, ring exercises etc. are all olympic sports. the problem for pole is that it still has the "sleazy performances" image stuck to it. if regularily dressed atheletes were to perform a specific set of challenging moves i bet nobody would question it to be olympic... even ice-dancing is olympic and with rules about duty-moves

@BadIdeas101 there are two types of poles, static and spinning and you can make the spinning pole static by putting a pin at the base of the pole which stops it from spinning. That way the girls have an option to use either type of pole during their optional round.

They keep their bodies in top condition, as most gymnasts and athletes for example and spend their time increasing their moves/tricks repertoire.

@poledancer2 @panospaneron I am taking pole dancing classes, I ran track all my life, I competitively cheered for 10 yrs, I trained for 3years. And i also had a 100% natural child birth.. I consider myself pretty damn strong. and the amount of strength you need to do this cannot be compared to anything, including gymnastics which I also did for 8 years. The muscles that you are using are ones you didnt knwo you had, and the isolations along require strength. #youcouldnthandle it.

Not sure if it surpasses rhythmics, after all both require completely different skill sets. Pole dancers need to be strong and flexible, rhythmic gymnasts need less strength but more flexibility, have to be able to tumble and of course manipulate ribbons, hoops, clubs, and balls in a routine, on their own or with a group. So really rhythmics is probably harder simply because there are more elements to master.
