  • Am I the only person that hears him inhaling and exhaling the eighth notes?

  • Lmao!!

  • Not off key f sharp

  • It takes some serious skill to sing perfectly off-key like that :D

  • This is how you torture people in prison who have perfect pitch.

  • @TheForceOfMusic101 No, you send the local school's band to those people.

  • Genius!

  • Minor seconds really do suck ass!

  • @AngrySocialistGuy They can sound beautiful if used correctly though ;D

  • So hillarious! I want my kids to grow up on this song, and then show them regular music and them think thats weird :D

  • it sounds like its played backwards

  • F shaaaaaaaaaaarp

  • horrific and ingenious...

  • I've tried singing this before... I managed it for about 3 seconds, then I got the brain version of the Blue Screen of Death.

  • He's playing F minor... o.O

  • @micogobodo He's actually playing D Minor, but F Major is the relative major, meaning both scales have the same notes, but a different root note.

  • @NFXShockwave Oh yeah true :3

  • 6 people don't like singing F sharp.

  • I am musically illiterate. If you tried explaining the point of this song to me, I'd be like "what the hell are you talking about?" Thanks to Tim, I now understand perfectly. I always learn something listening to Minchin.

  • It may sound bad but it's insanely difficult to do! And I love it... Tim, you're a genius!

  • I laughed so hard whilst watching him perfom this XDDDD i love him <3

  • Brilliant. Utter genius<3

  • every day in high school band at the beginning of class the instruments would be tuned to each other

so while the entire room was playing a Bflat

me and the other percussionists ( that of course don't have to tune anything but the timpani ) would try our best to sing 1 semitone above or below ( B or A ) which pissed our conductor off time and time again

but god was it hilarious because sometimes people trying to tune would hear us and tune 1 semitone off the whole band XD hahahaha

  • Oh god.. Well I guess the key of this song is Fmaj b9?

  • Comment removed

  • of some how, Tim always remind me of Jack Sparrow..xD

  • whats a cocle?

  • @nobodies52 The phrase "warm the cockles of one's heart" may refer to the similarity in shape of the heart valves to the cockle mollusc. A cockle being a (mostly) small, edible, saltwater clam group.

  • @GoldenGal42 Or it just means "balls" ( see the song "kickapoo" by tenactios d" )

  • Lies. You're playing in D harmonic minor.

  • @DonPortulinus Pretty much the same notes :)

  • @DonPortulinus However, that is essentially F ionian augmented.

  • Omg, I got SO bad shivvers XD

  • LOLOL JEEZZZ It's so terrible and amazing at the same time!!!!

  • oh lord .. my heart .. :--D

  • F&%K! Ive never hated a note any more.

  • Hes actually playing in D minor and singing the pitch F# for most of it, not playing in F major and singing in F# major. However, the end is in F major, and singing split harmonies is actually very difficult to do correctly, so thats impressive

  • Oooh. Painfull!

  • it would be really cool if he could sing the whole melody in f sharp lol

  • @tjbrownmusic

    now it would be boring

  • This is genius. Being a musician who gets this ftw!

  • that last note hurt my soul. that was probably one of the most disgusting, repulsive notes i have ever heard in my entire life. but i sorta liked it.....

  • thats epic :D

  • Why do you have to be a musician to find this hilarious. I am a drummer and can play piano, but just way it sounds makes it hilarious! XD

  • IM A MUSICAN and it makes that laugh i do that all the time to piss of people

  • FUCK OFF WITH YOUR NEGATIVE COMMENTS! ITS A JOKE FOR CHRIST'S SAKE. So what if he didn't hit the right note, I don't think he really gives a fuck. I don't think you would either if you were getting paid what he is. Jesus!

  • @Boultbeeable I don't think you get the joke.

  • @Boultbeeable He is hitting the right pitch or note... But he sings a tone that does not match with the rest of the song, that tone beeing F# or F sharp.

For example (right me if i'm wrong), playing the C major scale and hitting C# instead of C for the last note, it's in the right pitch, but does not match with the other notes previously played.

  • This makes me shiver. I love it, it's smart, but it reminds me of nails on a chalk board.

    :[

  • I both hate this man and love him for this.

  • Sorry to break the news to you, but the note at the end was G, not F#. :(

  • @stephaniejimmymatt No. The second last note was G. You must be tonedeaf if you think the second last note, and the last note were the same notes.

  • It hurts...but it is so...DAMN....AWESOME!

  • just sounds like normal music these days since no one likes to sing on key. But the held f# was pretty funny/

  • I can hardly listen to this. But it's so amazing. xD

  • as a musician, FFUUUUU but soo funny lol

  • whats wrong with it?

  • @uralsocut :D

  • Good gods! That is horrid!!

    ....And brilliant!

  • The best part is after @0:50

  • I wish I didn't love this song. It's really clever, but damn it really does sound awful at times.

  • also whats the next song?

  • never been happy to be tone-death before - if no1 told me i wouldnt see a problem with the keys

  • @d952013

How do you not hear that it's terrible/

  • @LeopardFrogPilboxhat

I can only hear how bad it is when he does the 'F-SHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARP' bit. Some people are just tone deaf.

  • @TheRandomfanboy Yes of course singing F# in the chords of F major or D minor, is yet practically WRONG, but if you take it positively, this is actually a brilliant and creative song.. It is a little bit hard to sing a wrong note on a wrong chord..

  • @slyx94

Yeah, I know. I was talking about how some people (like me) have trouble picking up on what he's doing, 'cause we're tone deaf.

  • WTF I thought this was a song in F Sharp!

  • That hurt...

  • GOOSEBUMPS! hahaha

  • I prefer A minor. I also Like E minor. Guitarist you know.

  • @UncomfortableSilence I also enjoy a Minor :)

  • @UncomfortableSilence I also enjoy a Minor :)

  • F*ck... this made my rectum bleed... playing two notes one semitone apart should be illegal... tim is a genius...

  • Comment removed

  • @onis It's actually same thing.. Semitone, Half tone, Half step... but i think you allready noticed that since you deleted your comment. :)

  • @eXtP1987 haha it can sound just fine and nice if you bury the dissonance in other notes, but to sing the melody line in F# while comping in F, that will never sound right ;)

  • hahaha i love this, and with me being in music it just makes it so much more funny

  • @treefallingup

actually, keys do have 'moods'. Major keys are considered 'happy', while minor keys are considered 'sad'. It's a basic concept taught at very low music grades. I remember my first few piano exams included sections where I'd have to listen to a piece played by the examiner and say whether it was a major or minor key. My piano teacher taught me to pay attention to whether it sounded 'happy' or 'sad'. I never got a single one wrong.

  • @LilaBear According to one of my teacher's, whether people associate a song with happiness or sadness often has nothing to do with it being in a major or minor key. I get your point, though.

@treefallingup I don't agree with you. I feel that for instance Ab major and B major have different moods. But that's my ear...

  • @LilaBear That's simply not true. Their are Major songs that are sad and minor ones that are happy. I think Amazing Grace would be one example.

  • Hahahahaha thats actually really hard to do :P

  • hahahahahhha

  • It burns my ears and brings me to tears :D

    ...Of laughter.

  • F SHAAAAARP

  • hahahhaaaa

  • Absolutely hilarious

Laughed my testicles off when i heard this.

  • @treefallingup An accordian more appropriately accompanies the mood of F Major.

So.. Er... Get your brain in gear before letting a torrent of uninformed shite fly outward of your larynx.

  • HAHAHAHHAHAHA best thing ever!

  • simply brilliant!

  • I don't understand the joke... lol can someone please xplain this to me? I don't see anything wrong with this song... ;/

  • F sharp is really out of tune for the song...

  • @Catherine3234 that's why it's funny, you tit.

  • ..........*twitch*

  • laughed my ass off. :D:D:D

  • this version blows compared to the live version

  • Fun, I tried to sing in A something and play in something or rather, its hard as....

  • F Shaaaaaaaaaaaaarp

It's not easy to sing out of key of an instrument. :P Takes alot of practice.

  • @PrinceD4rkstR It's also difficult singing in harmonies, especially finding your note in a quartet.

  • @marmarymotherofgod

It's not so hard singing into a harmony, if you got a little practice. Your voice will always swing for it to sound good. And F vs. F# doesn't sound good. xD

  • @D4rkstR You're right, it's not so hard to sing in harmony if you get practice. But Tim Minchin was NOT singing in harmony.

  • OH DEAR GOD!!! watch from 1:30 and i promise you will vomit

  • Ahhh this is painful!!! :L

  • ROFL?!?!?!

    Don't you mean....ROFLBROTHEL! =D

  • Amazing song.

I like how the discussion of D minor being the relitive minor to F major keeps creeping back up XD

Oh deaarrr. Though Tim is amazing <3

  • Lol he sounds so... flat.

  • That's the joke.

  • he's sharp, I was making a double joke hehe not funny huh?

  • i hope your joking, because if your not you must be tone deaf

  • I am, don't worry xD

I'm glad I'm not tone deaf, I play in my school's percussion section so tuning the Timpani's would be WAY harder

  • ROFL. This makes me happy.

  • i wish i could roll my Rs

  • Jesus christ, amazing, I wish I could do that...

  • that would be really hard to sing. props, man.

  • stop saying he cant sing cos he can ;D

  • The way he sings in F# with the complete contrast of playing in f major is incredibly difficult to do.

  • I think I speak for all the idiots when I say...

''I hatez vis song lyk WFT is up wiv vis guy he cnt evn sing?!!!!!!!!!! I luvs xfactor, they haz weel talnt''

yeah, just keep on telephone voting and keep your deluded dreams of talent alive :)

  • @tommk3cab ROFLOL. xfactor has no 'weel talnt'

  • @yanyayai i lol'd really hard when i read that im not even sure how

  • xfactor has talent? what a fucking idiot, joe who? exactly now the show has finnished no one even likes the winner anymore, just like all the other shitty forgotten winners, this year it didnt even get chrismas no 1, ratm, watch his other songs if you want to hear him sing (not in f sharp) you probably wont even know the difference betwenn musical notes.

  • @myPETsnailFRED

what a shame you don't understand anything and can't even read. I am glad the internet has warriors like you to keep us all safe and warm.

I know full well who got to number one at christmas. I also know who RATM are, furthermore I almost certainly knew who they were before you were even born.

  • im pretty sure i can read, how else would i know what you just said? your comment makes no sense as a reply to mine+ you dont even know when i was born.

  • but you don't know what I said, that is the point.

If you read it properly in the first place then you would not have wrote your first reply, unless of course you have some kind of new version of tourette's.

  • I'm pretty sure he majored in music or something like that; he plays many instruments, though he plays piano best, Im sure.

  • love his eyes sooo much!!!!!

he said on Jonathon Ross that the reason he wears eye-liner is because they r weird and it makes them show up.

  • Im so sorry to burst your bubble here, they're contact lenses, which is why he sounds a little sarcastic on JR :/

But I know how you feel, I love them too x.x

  • that's got connor pereira written all over it

  • Totally does, Doesn't it? Also Nick, I just found your comment whilst I watched this, made me laugh my ass off. -Connor Pereira 8D

  • GIVES ME BRAIN FREEZE!!!!

  • the song doesnt hurt my ears.....

  • He awesome to be able to sing off key and hold it!!! Respect to Tim for that! I love it :D

  • @Riverstar33 the funny part was, he didn't hit f sharp and just held it, he was a bit off.

  • @judenihal He was spot on, but the F# is dissonant to the previous tone,

  • @madeinNorwayAM95 I think I made this comment because when I first heard this song, when he tried to hold the f sharp note he wasn't exactly hitting it but thats because he didn't want to use a perfect vocal tuning software or something but he was still close.

  • Ow. My ears. This is painfully amazing.

  • Yes, but that just accentuates the off key so much more.

Had the whole whole song been in F Sharp, then the satire could have been lost due to people not realizing what he was doing.

  • this is so clever, genius

  • All u newbs! Its an awsome song!

    End of discussion =)

  • Most definately an F#, I went as far as to put it through a tuner lol

  • omg that was horrible

    i love it

  • The way he sings this song reminds me of Monty Python - Eric The Half Bee lol

  • Hahaha this is brilliant , if slightly painful on the ear XD

  • The thing is, a really good musician can tolerate this. I've trained myself to sing in a different key to the one in which I'm playing, and I've written several etudes for piano in two keys that are a semitone away from one another.

  • lol yea this is horrible 4 me and my friend cause were all musos...cept my teachetr thinks it sounds goood... lol WTF!

  • lol, forgive me for stating the obvious, this is hilarious

  • i luv this guy he makes me crack up so much

  • it's a good song but my ears hurt

  • So awful, AMAZING! XD

  • that last note was a G

however, still brilliant. I was expecting more dissonance though.

  • maybe it was a G in the key of F Sharp lol

  • Comment removed

  • haha good call.

  • nah

it is still in F, and he is singing a G.

at least he is ending on a consonant.... lol

  • Err, wash you ears out. He is clearly singing an F Sharp.

  • have you tried singing the F# at the end of the song?? it doesn't match what he is singing...

and he is singing a G

  • There's a clue in the title you big donut! It's F Sharp!

  • but that doesn't mean he is singing an F# at the end. of course i am aware the song is called F#. at first, i thought i heard it wrong as well, but i checked it and it is definitely a G. either that, or he just sing F# very sharp because the G is a hair flat. check out the live version; he sings the G at the end as well.

and since you seem to be a person with musical knowledge (judging from your name), he ended on the 9 of the chord.

  • yeah right...and next you'll be telling me he's playing in the relative minor and not the Key of F??? LOL

  • funny you say that.

coz the whole a section, he is the relative minor. the picardy third in D minor give him the F# he sings in the b section. and it gives quite a result. so yes, only when he is singing the F# itself is he playing in F major; the rest of the song is in D minor.

  • you know....

you really made me check.... and i have to say, you are right...

he is playing in the relative minor. he doesn't go to to F major until the last chord. yes, the whole thing is in D minor. thank you for pointing that out. lol

  • You're welcome :o) Sorry for being a pain in the arse.

  • nah

    i enjoyed that discussion.

  • @timothynguyendo does it matter that much? Its an awesomely awful song

  • nope

    the song is definitely awesome

  • ARGH SO FRIGGIN TERRIBLE!I LOVE IT D:

  • its good but so hurtful on the ears

  • Brilliantly horriable :)

  • ah it hurts my ears!

  • Tim is the best!

  • ahhhh this is making me twitch...still love it

  • This song warms the very cockles of my heart.

  • Comment removed

  • he can sing awsomely... but this is a really hard song to sing if u try.. he does it beatifully x
