CO2 coming out of a car engine is the same CO2 coming out of our mouths. Now, the exhaust produces CO and other chemicals too, but they keep harping on CO2. Plants NEED CO2 to survive. There is no such thing as CO2(a) and CO2(b) . The term carbon dioxide by its definition means one carbon atom and 2 oxygen atoms.

The CO2 coming from your tail pipe is originated outside of this natural cycle: you are bringing up plant life from underground that's been built over millions of years and releasing CO2 that's not meant to be released. If you built a system that absorbed the excess CO2 like forests that can grow much faster than natural forests you could fix the natural cycle.

BTW no one says that plants die of CO2. I know what redox reactions are I heard of photosynthesis. We also know that 70 million years ago plants and animals were much larger than today and CO2 was 3-5X the current levels. What we don't know is how the current biosphere will react to an extremely abrupt change like we force on them today. Adaptation is not happening over night, a lot of species will die off as a result starting w the top of the foodchain. so life will go on just not with us.
