Nice. I wasn't really feelin' it until 3 minutes into it where the song took its turn, then it got jazzy. He's a good guitarist, but needs more wah for me.
I remember my dad playing EE ticket on the cassete player in the car when I was just a little guy, maybe 4 or 5 years old. They definately changed my life. Does anyone remember the name of the album with the song entitled rodeo with the really fast base guitar. Classic.
I wish he'd do a solo tour and put out a new album. I fell in love with his playing what seems like close to 20 years ago. I found both his playing and his songwriting abilities to be amazing. He should be a household name!
Marc & Mike are both very approachable guys. I saw them at GIT back in the early 90's when this video was recorded & it was VERY EXCITING. Nobody knew who they were & the place was fairly empty. These guys are the real thing. Beyond all of our old heroes & HUMAN. This is the GOLDEN AGE OF THE GUITAR.
I agree he's definitely underrated as a player. He put out some recent work with Chicago and he can shred but play with restraint when needed. Not like those other guys that have to overplay (steve vai yuk)
I wrote to the guy when I was younger and he sent me some sheet music - cool huh ! I still rate him above the usual noodle fests like Satriani etc - much more depth in his playing
Great stuff. Still have the tape and listened to it a few weeks ago on my day off. Great drumming by Troy Lukketta (Tesla)also. I actually learned how to play my drums in 9 from one of the tunes on this cd. This cd is one of my favorites. W/the exception of this more laid back tune, the cd has some good up tempo energy.
hey Jim Garcia, I took lessons from Marc also back in the 80's in Pacheco. wish I had his lessons on video instead of cassette. what an amazing teacher and player.
This music, and a lot of music, is beyond my sphere of familiarity...but I went to high school with Marc--and this is my reason for writing---I remember him being really good back then, people who knew about such things seemed to think he was a bit of a superstar back then. The facial expressionat the start of this video--same as it was back then. He always had a "left-handed look."
I'm glad to see he made a go of it. Way to go, Marc. Remember me? I hung out with Don Bailey.
I thank my lucky stars that I was able to take lessons from this guy for $20/hr back in the mid 80's, when he was living off Pacheco Blvd in Martinez, Ca. (also home of Joe DiMaggio, and the Martini). Marc, thank you. Jim Garcia
Marc Bonilla is one of the best because he plays effortlessly and has total awareness where the next note/chord belongs. All the skunk players that rely on speed tapping ought to learn something from him. Too bad The television producer never inserted screen in screen leaving one camera on his right hand only. MB is a master........
Outstanding song and performance. I got to see Marc with Keith Emerson, Ronnie Montrose, and Glen Hughes in Hollywood and they rocked and then rocked some more.
Thank you Artsake....this guy is great, really great i bought American Matador ...Wow Marc Bonilla is better then Steve Vai, more melody, more feeling...
Thanks for posting this, Artsake! I bought EE Ticket when I lived in S. Cal. and always wanted to see "Slaughter" performed but never did. Now I live on the East coast so seeing Marc live probably wont happen. Needless to say this video was a real treat for me!
I used to program a radio station and Marc, Mike, Toss & Dave came out to promote EE Ticket. We interviewed them and let them play live for well over an hour. They did what we called "A To Z Medley" (not sure if that's what it was officially called) where they played a medley of songs in alphabetical order. It was amazing!!! Our audience loved it and we continued to play it until I left the station a year later. I'm still pissed that I didn't make a copy of it for myself.
MUZZ....Where you at KLOS or KMET?. I remember Mark in the studio and people would call in and give him bizarre chords and then he made a song from it. It was great!
It is a reference to the old Disneyland when you had to buy tickets to get on rides. They had A tickets for the little rides, B for slightly better, etc up to E for the biggest rides. However, a few were double E rides.
I'm pretty sure that Disneyland's tickets only went up to E. "Double E Ticket" was an expression Marc made up to mean something was at it's greatest, hippest, most fun.
Here's a quote from when Marc was interviewed at KCLB-FM on why he called the album "EE Ticket": People would describe what I would write like a roller coaster. And I would always use the phrase "double E ticket" in everyday life. Disneyland used to have ticket booklets, and the E tickets got you on the hippest rides..."
Thank you Artsake. This is good stuff. Unfortunately, I never got to see Marc and the DragonChoir live. Favorite part for me is at 0:05 when Marc makes a bizzare face as the host is heaping praise on him.
Check out Marc in the new cd by California Transit Authority.
Thank you Artsake. What's the connection? you've got some great stuff! Thanks for sharing it with the world. I've saw Marc and met him around this era, and it was great. He's a gifted musician and a really nice guy.
Thanks for posting this. I've got vid of Marc, Dave Moreno & I performing "EE Ticket" with Tesla drummer Troy Luccketta at an elentary school (of all places!). I may have to post it.
just found out about this guy a few weeks ago, my unrefined music pallette tells me this is the best guitar player in the world

@whoopadoopa Yngwie is probably the worst when it comes to over-playing--far worse than Vai in that regard.
