  • I think the only reason there are still some people who oppose a public option is that they think it's something foreign and strange. The reality is just the opposite. A public option is not something foreign and strange. We already have it. It's called Medicare.

    And it works fine.

  • Medicare sucks...are you kidding me?

It has cost 10+ times more than they expect, their is fraud everywhere, and they dont pay the doctors full bill so in turn the hospitals have to charge working class citizens more for their bill.

    Rasmussen Polls:

57% - would raise Healthcare cost

53% - decrease quality of care

    45% - support the plan

    23% - strongly in favor

    40% - strongly dissaprove

    18% - will reduce cost

All numbers aside, it is still Unconstituional and we cant afford it

  • Our far right-wing Republican U.S. Supreme Court will undoubtedly be asked to rule on the constitutionality because the GOP has devolved from the Party of Lincoln to the Party of Foot-dragging.

And, undoubtedly, they will find it perfectly constitutional.

If we don't address the health care crisis the current system has created, the country will go bankrupt. That's a national security issue.

Everybody else has affordable health care. America is smart enough to accomplish that too.

  • We've got to stand up as a people to the pharmaceutical companies and the insurance companies who are holding us hostage and threatening to "pull the plug on grandma" if we don't pay up.

Insurance companies and deluge doctors with paperwork and focused on denying legitimate claims and fighting with sick patients over what will and will not be covered. Americans deserve better.

  • agree 100%...but, why are they this way...why do they have so much power?

Our government puts the limitations on the people and vague limitations on large corporations b/c these same corporations throw big parties and are very charitable around election time...

so, the answer...take the limitation off me and you...let US decide what WE want to pay for....the prices go down and the quality has no choice but to go up due to competition.

Government is the last resort answer...always.

  • It hasn't worked, though.

Free markets work in 99.9% of all situations. They don't work in this case. The truth is we all want the same product. We all want decent coverage of whatever legitimate bills our doctor or hospital comes up with.

So the insurance company doesn't really serve any purpose.

We might as well just put all our money in a big pot and just pay the medical bills that are legitimate and non-fraudulent.

  • With government handling the insurance aspect that doesn't put government in charge of my doctor's office or the local hospital.

Any more than my insurance company runs my doctor's office now.

He just sees them as bureaucratic harassers constantly trying not to pay his bills with the result that he has to be on the phone talking to insurance company paper pushers and filling out forms all day instead of practicing medicine.

  • In North Dakota, 90% all have the same company providing health insurance.

    That's a free market. That's a monopoly.

That's government provided by an unelected for-profit corporation immune to any oversight by the people of North Dakota.

  • From what I understand about American healthcare, people can buy insurance only within state lines. Sounds like a crazy piece of legislation caused that.

North Dakota's (and indeed the other states) would benefit greatly if people could buy healthcare from any state in the country. Costs would have to go down in order for companies to compete.

You're not limited to buying food from your state - why should you be limited to where you can buy healthcare?

  • What we've found is that private sector insurance companies really haven't found a way to "add value" to the basic service they provide. The doctor writes a prescription. The insurer sends a check. It's not that complicated. So they really aren't doing anything to justify the 20-30% overhead they are skimming from the premiums we pay.

It will be much less expensive simply to have a system a Single-Payer system like the rest of the world does.

  • Private insurers have become what Republicans claim to fear: the bureaucrat standing between you and your doctor. They serve no purpose.

"Competition" has mostly consisted of rejecting customers who have "pre-existing conditions" or raising premiums on customers when they get sick in order to "compete" to have the healthiest customer base. And spending millions on advertising and lobbying. All of which benefits no one.

  • In one aspect of the discussion, Americans are very united. 72% of all Americans feel is is quite important or extremely important for Americans to be given a choice between a public option and private options. --latest NBC/Wall Street Journal poll

  • The latest NBC/Wall Street Journal poll showed 48 percent favoring a public plan administered by the federal government while 42 percent opposed such a proposal.

  • 57% of Americans said they favored having the "government create a new health insurance plan to compete with private health insurance". --Washington Post/ABC survey, October 2009

  • And people say you're far, far left! LMFAO!!! Either way, I'm not hearng this on my local news channel. Oh! That's right! The Elite bought that a long time ago! Rockafella Records... Wonder if they have any ties to anyone?! When people wake up and realize that there is no left or right, that's when we'll be accomplishing something! Namaste!

  • Once more Michele doesn't understand the problem.

  • This is her solution ? Competition ? In what country is she living for the past decade ?

There is competition... It does not help a single bit...

  • I support the public option.

  • How do you fund it ?

Its not free then consider how much of western medicine is BULL SHIT.

Like these "flu shots" not one single study has been done on the benefits of getting a flu shot.

Government is too corrupt and incompetent to run the post office never mind public funded health care.

If you haven't notice yet the states is about to become a 3rd world economic wasteland.

  • Again with the flu shots? Don't get one if you don't want it. The government already runs medicare which is an extremely popular program so they must be doing something right. Maybe they can fund it by ending some of the corporate welfare programs.

  • Yea again with the flu shots

No benefit to the "Government" run program.

Watch the 60 minutes expose on Medicare , 60 Billion dollars in fraud.

Corporate welfare programs ? The US dollar is worthless paper the US government has single handedly destroyed the global money system.

Counterfeiting money since 1971 with world government co-operation. It gets worst by the day...

  • I'll bet Halliburton has a couple of billion dollars in fraud by itself. At least the money is going to help people get health care and not killing US soldiers with shoddy wiring.

  • Good point, well taken. : )

  • Exactly if the government can't even run a war properly how are they going to do with a medical system.

You still in the US dollar worth something camp. The dollar's toast you still live in la la land. Sound money or watch the globe implode.

  • Yes, Bachmann has made her mark--like a dog peeing on a fire hydrant.

  • The universities and the govt. are not even capable of viewing anything (except through their own norrow vision).

Where have they been successful yet???

Yeah Obuma`s govt. is really doing a great job of fixing America!!!

  • there is no one listening to her ?

  • Do they have to spend precious minutes on flirting and endless praising of each other. Sickening picture really

  • It is ether the "R" way or no way.

Change the tax code so we could afford Singe Payer.

Let's try free market like the Banks, Enron, Bernie Madoff.

Single Payer HR 676 will give a big boost to small business. Free the corp slaves.

Cut Medicare 100% and let the free market take care of them.

  • The people of MN should be ashamed of themselves, sending a dimwit soccer mom to represent them in Congress.

  • you should be ashamed of yourself for supporting communism and collectivism...

  • Shut up you wacky bitch and get reading.

  • Bleh a smart person up there, finally :)

  • Change the tax code? Guess she doesn't realize that the worlds biggest military and debt requires tax income. The free market option? I thought that is what the US had?

  • Mahoivlich, She didn't suggest abolishing the income tax.

  • nope...no free market anywhere in the US except the black market.

and...as for the military, that is the PRIMARY role of Government moron...

Social Security, Welfare, Medicare, Medicaid all cost three times more than the Military spending....and are Un-Constitutional, wasteful spending...

remove these...the debt would be paid for in no time.

  • helltrackrider,

Now we know what you and Rush Limbaugh mean by communism and collectivism:

You mean Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid!

And you and the Republicans want to eliminate all three!

  • First...i am not affiliated with Rush nor the Republican Party...they lost my interest during the Bush years.

Second, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Welfare, Unemployment, Food Stamps, Public Housing...these are ALL forms of Collectivism...meaning, that I exist to support the needs of others.

This was not the foundation that this Country was founded on...this was the foundation that FDR (worst President ever) proivded America with by threatening to stack the Supreme Court.

  • ...if you dont agree that these are forms of Collectivism, explain to me how they are not...you will not be able to.

  • Well, Social Security and Medicare are the ones that are the most popular.

America has completely embraced them. The elderly used to retire in poverty, completely unable to afford the kind of prescriptions and diagnostic tests that today doctors prescribe/order routinely.

I'd be very impressed if all employers provided real medical benefits to their employed retirees for life . . .

    but, of course, they don't.

  • of course they don't...it is not their responsibility to provide for a retired person or their medical bills.

    It is each individuals responsibility.

How about this for change, remove all these social programs, reduce taxes by 5-10 times to where they should be and let every person keep their money and decide if they want to spend it now or hold it until retirement...

if they opt to spend now, tough luck at retirment...better hope you dont get sick.

    All falls back on Responsibility.

  • ...And in todays America, "Citizens" have gave up Responsibility and Freedom for a false sense of Security provided by the US Government; where it was not the US Governments responsibility in the first place.

Social Secutiy, Medicare, Medicaid, Education, Welfare, Food Stamps, Unemploymeny, Public housing...these are not the Responsibility on the US Government...these are the individuals or parents Responsibility.

Protecting my Rights, this is the Responsibility of the US Government.

  • But, of course, this is where you and I differ...

You feel that it is the Responsibility of the US Government (other taxpayers) to provide medical service, housing, education, food, cell phones, gas, downpayments on cars to the "less fortunate" people in society.

Why are they "less fortunate"? because the US Government itself has created a society that allows for this...all in the name of control and power.

Under a true capitalist system with low taxes, noone would be "less fortunate"

  • I think what you're saying is that people who are poor or middle class are irresponsible and should be punished.

    A. Who died and left you king? You feel a tobacco executive who earns $300,000 a year is morally superior to a pastor who earns $30,000 a year and the pastor should be punished. The majority of Americans disagree.

    and

    B. You don't punish people by denying them medical care!!! That's sick.

  • Didnt say the "poor" or "middle class" were irresponsible, if certain individuals choose to be irresponsible it is THEM that need to deal with the consequences, not me/you/Americans. the terms "poor" and "middle class" are well used by the progressives...in reality, there is no such classification; unless you want to adhere to Marxist ideas.

  • A - Morally superior? where you came to that conclusion, not sure...My feelings are that one who earns his property adhering to and not infringing upon others Rights is entitled to every bit of his earnings, less that which is necessary for the government to protect his Rights, this amount should be equally paid throughout society...yes, that means that EVERYONE should pitch in.

  • B - Denying them medical care? your life is your Responsibility...if you choose to spend your wealth on cars, larger than necessry houses, gambling..etc...then, the society is not morally, nor Responsibly, obligated to pay for your medical care. This is not called denying someone medical care; they denied theirselves.

C - If America was, like 200 years ago, based on capitalism...more people than today would be able to provide for themselves and their family...that is a fact.

  • and

    C. The idea that there would be no poor people if we eliminated all government regulations and all entitlements is silly.

What you would have is a lot of pollution and food with no nutrition labels on it and a lot of corporate monopolies and elderly people begging on street corners.

  • Also, if you had a market regulated capitalist society...corporate monopolies are virtually impossible. Government has secured the monopoly role in todays economic world and has provided the means for any company to come near a monopoly.

Face it, todays government controlled communist system does not work and has never worked to provide stability for the society as a whole...the decades after conception of America, the economy was idolized...now, people laugh at us b/c of Government.

  • Corporate monopolies are virtually impossible? Then why is the anti-trust division of the Justice Department working overtime to break up all the monopolies?

A free market is a good thing. But it's not magic. Sometimes it fails all by itself.

  • Exactly why i said...Government supplies the means for corporate monopolies.

In free market, there is no opportunity for a monopoly as anyone can provide the same thing you do without the government saying "no."

we dont have that now...now, we have Government fees and mandates that regulate the market to a point where ONLY the wealthiest, more powerful companies can get in...think its a coincidence? nope. whoever donates the most ot the campaigns gets the most in return.

  • The anti-trust division doesn't create monopolies. It prevents them from forming.

Corporations are the ones that are constantly trying to create monopolies. Like John D. Rockefeller trying to buy every oil company in the country and becoming the richest man in the world.

His monopoly was BROKEN UP by the federal government in 1911.

  • i never said the Anti-trust division created monpolies...the Congress's Legislation is what has aided in the creation of monopolies.

Rockefeller could buy every oil company he wanted in America, under a free market...other companies from around the world could easily provide competetion to which he would have to give in to.

There is not any resource on Earth that a person/company could create a monopoly from...if there is such a resource, it isnt that needed by society to deem it a monopoly

  • In my neighborhood there is only one cable tv company. The federal government is begging telecom companies to create more competition, but building a rival cable company in a neighborhood is just too expensive. Monopolies happen by themselves.

  • why is it to expensive?

    Government.

If all they had to pay for was laying line and employee wages...they would be there in a heartbeat.

    Try satellite...always other options.

  • the overwhelming majority does not support Commie, national health insurance.

huge differences in todays health insurance and car insurance...mainly where you can purchase and who owns the policy.

health - can purchase in your won state, and your employeer owns the policy...not you.

car - can purchase anywhere and YOU own the policy.

This is what keeps care insurance rates relatively low and even throughout America.

Only thing govt should be doing now is backing off on mandates.

  • About 60% of Americans support having a public option.

An even higher percentage of Americans support having Medicare.

  • what pole are you reading?

we live in a Republic anyways...99.99% of Americans could support it; that doesn't mean that it is within the powers vested for the Government to provide it.

At least, we used to live in a Republic...now, it is a Communist Democracy...Plank by Plank.

  • A rational health care system benefits everyone.

In the age of bioterrorism, health care becomes a national security issue.

Often it is illness that leads to unemployment and poverty and dependency in the first place. Get people well and able-bodied and they'll be more fit for hard work.

  • Kaiser Health Tracking Poll:

Question: "Tell me whether you would favor or oppose creating a government-administered public health insurance option to compete with private health insurance plans."

    Favor 57%

    Oppose 39%

    source: prescriptions.blogs.nytimes . com/2009/10/28/polls-and-the-public-option/

  • And in terms of punishing people who are "irresponsible" by denying them medical attention--I guess we would have security guards in front of emergency room doors who would keep people out like beefy bouncers at a hot nightclub--

you are assuming that life is always fair.

    Sometimes life isn't fair.

Sometimes someone breaks their back putting their spouse through law school . . . and then their spouse turns around and divorces them, leaving them penniless.

  • ever head of Voluntary charity?

we have alot today...would have exponentially more in the case that Government didnt want to be communist and result back to its original role in America.

Voluntary Charities and doctors good will would more than cover those who would need the help; even though it isnt the Responsibility of the charity donors or the doctors...

  • I love charity. Everyone should make charitable contributions. Everyone should work in a soup kitchen for a little while.

But the reality is, charity is a tax on goodness. The good give more. The evil give less.

Much more fair is just to have everyone contribute a little bit because, among other things, knowing they always have Social Security to fall back on probably makes entrepreneurs feel just a little bit free-er to take chances. Everyone benefits.

  • Medicaid -is- charity. But it's charity done in a way that is fair to the givers. Because the self-centered and the generous at each income level pay the same amount in taxes.

  • Sometimes someone breaks his back trying to build a nest egg for the wife he loves more than life itself . . . and then he has a heart attack and his business partner steals everything leaving his wife penniless.

The idea that all responsible people are magically protected or that all drug dealers and swindlers are punished is a fantasy.

    Some babies are born crippled.

Life can be cruel. We, as a people, don't have to be. We can make life slightly less cruel.

  • Forced charity, todays system, will not. The government will shift the money around to other needs, grant more pork, produce more funding, and pay the salaries of a huge amount of unnecessary jobs.

Less Government = More money in Americans pockets = More Voluntary Donations

Considering that this Country has before, and could easily now, survive on 20% of the government we have now...why arent they proposing this in Congress? Power. They are proposing increasing the Government even MORE!

  • Knowing you can see a doctor even if the company you worked for your entire life goes bankrupt and can't pay your pension gives people peace of mind.

If you think national health insurance and pension insurance for retirees is communism, then you've just said that the overwhelming majority of Americans are communists. We're not.

  • The truth is: it's really not all that different from car insurance. Everyone buys car insurance. Everyone pays in. And then when some idiot gets drunk and crashes into you, there's an insurance company right there to pay all your bills. All insurance involves people paying in and only the unlucky getting paid back.

Is an interstate highway collectivist??? Or just common sense.

  • The instinct to do everything on your own is a very healthy instinct, and admirable, but building 50,000 different reservoirs for a city with 50,000 households would be retarded.

Something are just more efficiently done cooperatively.

  • there is no one in the room, haha, where are the republicans, my father would say its more favorable that people get meds and health care then be totally fucked up like one of his friends (stroke) now in a nursing home also paid for by the government. in that case its either $100 a month for a doc/meds or $100 per day for 24/7 nursing/doctors/meds. I guess it would be preferred to die quickly. or you could confront the health issue before it leads to devastating results

  • There's people out there right now, Madam Speaker, who don't know whether they're going to have a job tomorrow or affordable health insurance for their families.

    Let's make sure they do.

    PASS HEALTH CARE REFORM NOW!

  • the more and more i read your post...the more and more i understand, why America is fucked for the future...

These ideas of collectivism and that one exists to support society...these are the complete opposite of America's foundation.

Why is it MY responsibility, as a taxpayer, to assure that some other person has healthcare and a job?

    explain please...

you can't...it is that sole persons responsibility to provide for themselves or to seek voluntary help, not forced taxation.

  • my most esteemed colleague, helltrackrider,

I understand and completely sympathize with the feeling some male Americans have that nobody helped them get the job they have and no one ever helped them earn the money they earned to buy the house and the car and everything else.

  • But, the fact is, an eight-year-old Republican aristocrat whose father earns one hundred million a year

    DOES NOT

build his own private school, does not build his own playground, does not grow the oats for his ponies, does not inject his own vaccines or read his own x-ray when he breaks his arm.

And he doesn't pay for any of it either.

Parents prepare children for adulthood and then society provides the tools a young man needs to put an interesting career together.

  • People who think they've done everything on their own are just extraordinarily ungrateful.

You drive on interstate highways. Did you build all of them?

    Life is a collaborative process.

Private schools failed to educate everyone. Private health insurance companies failed to provide everyone with insurance.

Corporate America failed to keep all our manufacturing jobs from going to China and all our service jobs from going to India.

"Gan you repeat your account number, plees?"

  • Corporate America?

this was Trade policies that allowed this from the Government accompanied by minimum wage policies and the Federal Reserve de-valueing our dollar on a daily basis...

The more money in the economy, the less each dollar your presently own is worth and the more prices inflate around you...catch the drift?

You cannot have 5%-7% increase in pay while the value of the dollar drops by 10% and the prices rise by 10%...

America needs backed money and less government.

  • The America People, working through our universities, working through government, working through the private sector . . .

will fix this fucked up country sooner rather than later.

Don't be so upset about it.

It's a collaborative effort. We're all on the same side.*

*Except Michele Bachmann, who's in outer space somewhere.

  • The only way to come out of this mess is to remove the powers of the Federal Reserve, reduce the Government spending by well over half and to reduce government interference in the market place by well over 80-90%...period.

Michelle Bachmann is absolutely correct in about everything she has said to date.

    The problem IS government...nothing else.

Not the evil insurance companies that make a 2.2% profit margin...not the evil bank executives that take home huge bonuses...it is GOVERNMENT.

  • So sorry the US Federal Government blew all the cash on the useless, endless sandbox wars.

Healthcare for taxpayers , the plan is to cull the heard with flu shots.

You know what the Chinese government is telling their sheople ? Buy as much gold and silver as possible the US dollar is about to become toliet paper.

You frickin morons will never wake up...dumber than a sack of hammers. Your own government is destroying the country by counterfeiting money.

  • boots,

How does going on the gold standard prevent the government from going off the gold standard and printing counterfeit money any time it wants to?

Paper money never -was- worth anything. You want to carry gold coins around all day?

Money is based on trust. Big surprise.

Ron Paul supporters should just be quiet until they come up with some better approach.

The Fed has power. The DoD has power. The President has power. The oil industry has power. Get over it.

  • "How does going on the gold standard prevent the government from going off the gold standard and printing counterfeit money any time it wants to? "

Like when Nixon (crook, traitor and war criminal) was caught counterfeiting money in 1971 ?

At that moment in history the gold standard ended with world leader co-operation ?

You mean currency is based on trust and MONEY is based on real things ?

Without sound money you won't be able to feed and shelter yourself.

    No Future !!!

  • The gold standard just embarrasses the government when they get caught counterfeiting.

What's the gold price telling the peasants now, its quadrupled in price in less than 10 years.

Therefore big shocker the US government is counterfeiting money again , just like in 1971 and again we have all world leaders co-operating ? This time billions of people are going to die. That's where the flu shots come in , initial culling of the herd.

  • I personally wonder if Paul's a shill, but the vids I saw got deleted when Google bought this damned site. I lost over a hundred vids I made favs., Yes, Corporations, the FED, DOD, President have power. Does that mean the people of the country must submit to their every beliefs? I should hope not.

  • Just bring your troops home !!!

Policing the sandbox is very expensive !!!

  • Social Security and Medicare is more expensive...

  • The government can't afford either so

    1) you'll have to pull out the troops suddenly (like the end of the vietnam war

    2) You'll still get social security but the currency is now worthless paper

    3) Medicare will end suddenly

Too much damage has been done to the fiat currency !!!

No confidence in the paper anymore

  • Wow! Michelle Bachmann is now promoting the abolishment of state's sovereignty. My, my; she's starting to sound like one of the 'evil' socialists.

  • Call her J S Bachman because she creates symphonies of stupidity. First she lays down a brass section of discord blasting away maniacal platitudes from the Bible of Neo-Mythology. This she supports with wood windy harmonies of half truth serenades. Then comes the string section of ties to Big Business interests. All of this is tied together by a steady percussion section of rational jaws hitting the floor as she manages to yank all of this out of her overly tight ass.

    Meraviglioso !!!!

  • King is right. She has "made her mark" but not because she has any brilliance. It's because she's such a fucking idiot! People's eyes bug out every time she speaks cuz she just can't stop thinking of new ways to amaze us with her stupidity.

  • haha, change the tax code? who are we kidding here. there are hunderds of lobbyist for each line in the IRC. the job of those lobbyist is to make sure that every line in the tax code stays were it is. she is only putting this out there so they can say they put an idea forward. the repubs would never vote for the free market solution b/c they are paid for.

  • No world currency!!!

  • Bachman reminds me of that girl that smokes all your pot....then afterwards to go to town on her as she's helpless....

    hahahaha

  • Actually, some very good points after you pass all the back patting. She should not have gone into economy, other than the deficit, she has little understanding of reality.

The 800 Billion bailout is peanuts -- try 2.5 TRILLION (2500 BILLION) that the FED Reserve handed out IN SECRET, or the Trillions that the Pentagon lost -- announced by Don Rumsfeld the day prior to 9/11.

Wake up SHEEPLE, your looking at the magicians left hand - the right hand is doing the trick.

    Feel it yet?

  • brain meltdown when crazy bach speaks

  • She is hurting my head.

  • I swear Bachmann and King have something going on... she just gushes how he should run for President... and you can see by his 'yield' that he obviously has the hots for her...

    They're perfect together
