  • Well, your scale lies to you about 0.02 of a gram, so how do you determine for sure that this "gold" is a real gold all the way deep inside? It might be copper or brass wire thickly galvanized with specific gold karat. You have no idea WHAT SCAMMERS ARE CAPABLE OFF. You might wear this ring for a lifetime in fate that you got it in 14k. Acid testing is only usefull if you cut through the metal, and check it "to the centre of the bone!"

  • couldn't it be 9ct since neither changed with the 9 and 14ct tester acids

  • Aren"t you supposed to test the gold on the scratch stone and not on the jewelry itself?

  • Where can you purchase a block like that, and that specific gold testing kit?

  • What is that black block called?

  • displacement, density, gold content

  • Why wouldn't you use the scratch stone the way it's meant to be.

  • so you ring could be 10k or 14 k

  • @welshspencer If it passes the 14k acid, its 14k or higher..

  • SWEET!

  • That's a nice scale! What model is that?

  • Hi i just wanted to know, once it turns black, or to that darker colour how can we get it bck toits orginal colour??

  • if its heavily gold plated, it will fool you on the acid test.

  • gxl also fails thick plating, you have to make file in a spot to get the gxl to read it corrdctly s well

  • @Cash4GoldCA The instruction manual on the GXL 24 Pro says you can make a small pinhole in the questionable piece. Have you tried this? I recently bought a pair of earrings which read 22 karat on the GXL. Upon further inspection (after I had purchased the earrings), I filed deeply into the piece and retested to find that it was plated. I am curious if there is a less destructive way to test for plating.

  • Good video!!

  • hey buddy which instrument u have used to measure the exact width of the rings at 1:35

can u plz name that instrument bcz i have to purchase it

  • A digital caliper

  • thanks a lot

  • What if it was a tungsten mixture with same weight as gold in the middle? How would you know?

  • just bite it...

  • i don;t get it. if the 10 karate didn't get dark then why wouldn't the rings be 10 karate??

  • Your making a mistake while testing these rings.

    1) You should avod any form on skin contact with the acid because it can burn.

    2) Your suppose to scratch the stone with the itme that needs to be tested and than drop a drop of acid on the stone and not the ring.

  • i agree

, he is making his ring black

  • your supposed to put the acid on the stone you knucklehead

  • did spots remain on the rings after testing? thats what it looks like

  • yes

the best way to check , is to drop a drop on test stone after rubbing and not on ring

  • is the weight class 2?

  • From what eBay store did you get the rings?

  • great vid thanks

  • interesting :e
