I saw Hawkwind perform Space Ritual for the first time in 1974,(maybe 75) St. Louis, USA. At the time , all of my guitar playing chums said they would never last. The music spoke to me and continues to do so to this day. So get out your Orgone Acumulators and rock through the universe.
I really liked Bridget Wishart's vocals in this piece. I don't know if it was intentional, but her affectless delivery really suits the acid trip-ish atmosphere of the song. To me, it reflects well that mind/body separation one experiences on psychedelics, where you can experience strange things, yet remain calm.
First saw Hawkwind in 2006, never looked back. Missed the legendary era of the festivals and some great lineups, but the flame still burns and the saga goes on.....
The never ending journey of Hawkwind - 33 years of sheer pleasure; Utopia and Psy Power for me. I used to live in Nottingham and was at this concert - and every other nearby. (Derby, Sheffield, Leicester, St Austell and Falmouth too). Now I live in Canada my greatest sadness was not to make it over for the 40th Anniversary Tour!! Call myself a fan!! Thanks for this posting this Hiessetiff - Hawkwind are in my very being - much love. It it its like a si sillicon chip inside my head......
Hahaha I only recently (past year or two) discovered Hawkwind. Ye GODS these folks are amazing! Good to hear praise from a long time fan and glad they have longevity! :)
"The never ending journey on the edge of time..." Hawkwind had a small, if not perhaps a mildly disturbed following in middle America during the late 70s, early 80s.
lol...i used to go and see this lot every year for their mushroom season tour at leeds university in the mid 80s....this looks like it was round about the same time..
always put on a great show...tyty for posting..:D:D..michael moorcock on keyboards..??
i saw them in very early 1976 at a college near the albert hall. they opened with this & i was blown away. Lemmy had not long left & Stacia had been replaced by a memorable dancer (for a 15 year old lad!) called Ricci, i think. on the way home on the bus, it so happened i encountered the first punk rockers i'd ever met in the flesh!
Lives of great men all remind us we may make our lives sublime And departing leave behind us footprints in the sands of time Of hewn stones the sacred circle where the wizened sages sat Let us try to remember all the times where they were at. So your thoughts they were expecting assault and battery on the human anatomy Assault and battery on the human anatomy man. :)
I''ve been hooked since the beging. there is only one Hawkwind. they cannot be compared with anyone else!!! these 2 tracks(assult&battery/thegolden void) origonaly off Worriors on the edge of time 1975. Was definately way ahead of its time...... Also the virsion off Palace Spings 1991. Fucking awsome, still sends shivers down my spine! Thank you.
@Nyctophora thanks for the comment, it is available at Amazon UK. YouTube won't let me paste the address but it's just called Hawkwind (DVD), with a blue cover with a spaceship?? on it. The DVD has one comment and was filmed in Nottingham (mentioned in the comment). Hope this helps.
travelling up or coming down, this band (and this song particularly) worked for me always! my best friend of 22 years, Rixmyth, introduced me to Hawkwind all those years ago, and even though he's now gone, this music lives on in my heart, and my soul. long live Hawkwind, long live Lemmy, long live Nik!! i love 'em all!
why oh why do bands speed up their songs during live shows???? time management?? good lord, that sux. that being said, this is a good version but nothing compared to the original album. and believe me, i've been listening to Hawkwind for 25 years and have seen Nik Turner once. that show was freakin awesome!
Cruel. Lost another friend last night. She died in my arms while I was petting her and telling her we'd go to the doctor in the morning... She never saw the sun rise anymore... ;-'((
Dave Brock guitar and vocals, Bridget Wishart vocals, Alan Davey Bass & vocals(his bass playing is the best!), Harvey Bainbrige keyboards and Richard Chadwick on Drums. Got that from my Dad.. Awesome post
When's this concert from? I saw them at St.Helens Theatre Royal, back in 1983 I think it was. Excellent concert, but the stage floor collapsed when everyone jumped up to dance right at the end! Nik Turner was with them as well then, Choose Your Masques tour.
and was a professional shoot originally made for broadcast on ITV's Bedrock series of concerts. The first time I saw Hawkwind was in Bath Pavilion 1984 also on the Choose Your Masques tour, and yes Nik Turner was with them.
they've had a few members leaving and going to Rolls Royce and Express but often some of them come back.
