I saw him before the Atlanta show in 2008. I woke up early and was the first person at the venue and when the bus arrived he got off and began shouting obscenities at one of the guys next to me for taking a picture of him. It really made me think a lot less of him...but the show was still kickass and remains the best show of my life. All in all he probably was just having a bad day. P.S. having him scream in your general direction is very very frightening.

The Mars Volta is king of making music so long, and boring that they seem to be at ends with themselves. I used to be able to sit down and listen to one of their albums, but anymore, they have taken things to an entirely new level. A level where you can't even listen to alot of their newer material in the car. Listening to one of their albums takes 2 hours at times....

wax simulacra is not really that hard if you know the time signature. 11/8 for the intro, 6/8 for the verses. try goliath. it's fun to play, but it's in 17/4. takes a long time to learn, but i recommend it just for the challenge.

yeah, its just harder for me because i dont even play the same genre. i'm typically a metal/deathcore y'know kind of drummer, so i dont have much practice with the odd stickings and time signatures. i mean, im not discrediting metal drumming in any way, but its a whole different feel than more shredding yet grooving styles. but thanks for the help, i have my drum teacher helping me out now, too.

i actually play a lot of metal too. it took me about a week to figure out how to play wax simulacra (to the severely limited extent that i can play it, but it did not take long to figure out what he was doing. it is an impossibly hard song to play, but if you take it slow and really figure it out before you startyou should get it (after weeks of torture. i can still barely get through it)

I wasn't claiming that it was easy to play. in fact, it's a pain in the ass. i said it was easy to tell what he was doing. maybe i just have a good ear, but i can hear what he is doing. it is an incredibly difficult song to play, and i can barely get through it myself. also, i am more of a metal drummer. i play around with the beat for wax simulacra (to the best of my ability) but if you ever see me doing a drum cover it will probably be slipknot or as i lay dying.

I"m not digging pridgen either, Yes he can play extremely fast and in crazy messed up time signatures with ease, but jon theodore could groove and was a huge part of the mars volta that I grew to love.
