  • Well, I think THE most underrated female singer/songwriter in this country is Beth Neilsen Chapman.

  • She sings this song as if it were written 4 her...

  • Cool version and well done, She is good, and what a great Gabriel tune to do!!!!!!!

  • are you experienced? Its nice , shes ok ....a little mononotanous & orchestrated but what kids these days aren't ..... was this for some talent show ? Kudos to the magnificient writer , Peter Gabriel blow your horn !!!!!!!!!

  • i wish there wasn't any autotune on her voice. i think it kills some of the magic of a live performance, at least in this setting.

  • @pmerendi Pretty sure there isn't any auto tune here. Just her wonderful voice.

  • @airbender0203 start at 0:35; when she says "away," I'm pretty sure it's auto tuned. :/

  • @pmerendi No. That's not auto tune. It's just her voice. Pretty sure someone like Sara Bereilles doesn't need or use autotune... live or in the studio.

  • does anyone know if versions of this are available to purchse on i tunes?

  • @jordannasierra I think there's an itunes live session w/her that features this song available.

  • I've been a mad Peter Gabriel fan for quite some years now and have really liked Sara for a while as well. It happens for me so rarely that two things I love in music come together and in such a brilliant way. I played it five times in a row before I could tare myself away. I’d like to see Sara do some Suzanne Vega as well.

  • I think almost everyone who does a cover to this song does a GREAT job....Sarah, Aaron Lewis (Exxxcellent!), Courtney Love, and actually Fred Durst did a great job too. Obviously nothing beats Peter Gabriel though. 5 Stars, 2 Thumbs Up, Standing Ovation, ROCK ON!!!

  • God, how I love this girl! Her voice, her piano technique, her eyes, her mouth her evocative phrasing... I could listen forever.

  • takes all the soul away. no peter gabriel doesnt have the great technical voice but he had conviction when he sang. plus all the african inspired music is way better than this

  • not bad;))

  • @bathetcnow I wonder if she understands the difference between "to" and "too" ? I bet she does "get that."

  • @bathetcnow Obviously, YOU don't get it. I give you 10 or 20 or 30 years, and maybe then you'll get it...

The "simplicity" is precisely what makes it so HAUNTING, and she uses it to build to a climax that, emotionally, surpasses Gabriel's original.

  • @mysticsmb Agree completely. Good way of putting it. Some people need to open up their ears.

  • Sara Bareilles! She rocks! I love her. Wished she would share her story and allow people to connect their dots to her on Pocodot - (pocodot dot com) - she rocks. I hear Pocodot is the Facebook killer….

  • I dont understand why she repeats the first verse twice.

  • Truly amazing. For me, nothing can touch the original by Peter Gabriel. That having been said, there is NO DOUBT this version by Sara is breathtaking. She is, I think, one of the few truly talented female singer/songwriters out there today. At least in terms of mainstream music.

  • @arbitrarynonsense In that regard, check out Imogen Heap. She's the real deal.

  • have loved this version of this song ever since I bought her cd.

  • Amazing!

  • Such a haunting and beautiful song. I have heard so many cover this and Sara just blows me away with her voice. I so can't wait for the new album.

  • like her singing, but the rest of instrumental parts don't seem right.

  • Marry me?

  • I don't understand whay you guys don't like this song. It's a great song. How come it isn't "there" yet. What's there? Like seriously...

  • I don't think you guys understand with this song is about. I'm being serious. Not quite "there yet" what does that mean. This a great song. I don't undertand why it isn't there yet like what the heck!

  • Not bad, I guess. It has potential, but not quite "there" yet.

  • This is a great cover ...amazing....love her voice!!

  • Great cover, and a great show for giving us these performances. Thanks for posting this!!!! Wow...it's a a great, faithful, but fresh song!

  • Amazing! Love her!

  • Great song!! What an amazing voice!

  • I think this is a pretty good song.

This version is kind of like a song in its 'own rights' as it has little resemblace to the original by Peter Gabriel. But I like it.

  • nice job Sara!

I like where it picks up around 2:00, fun.

  • just thought I'd mention it...the percussion instrument the guy at the left of Sara is playing is a Peruvian "Cajon"...viva el Peru CARAJO!!!

  • It is an amazing song. It all starts with the song. So got to give Peter Gabriel credit. Did he write this song?

  • Yes he did. I like this "unplugged"-version too. but of course one one can reach the mood and deepness of this song like PG himself...

  • Cool!

  • bravo +7

  • very nice version. She is definitely talented!

  • boneheads. Wake up and stop comparing. You're probably the type of people who's constantly comparing themselves with other people. This song is fucking amazing-PG or this chick. Amen.

  • this makes it sound like a 'love-song' version. that's nice, but the PG version expands the lyrics beyond. especially the intro and outro he does in the live versions. its pure zen.

  • I think this is a lot better than Gabriel's version. Sara's an amazing singer/pianist. She covers really well too.

  • LOL are you serious? This is okay but Gabriel's version is light years ahead of this

  • zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • hmm I'm not in love with this. she's better on her own stuff.

  • There's a depth to her voice, full of soul. Her range is impressive. I like it!

  • beautiful love you sara, hommage to peter and genesis...

  • it gets good about 2 mins into it...

  • does ANY1 have sheet music for THIS song!! the SARA version

  • I like both versions. SB has her own style and it does sound beautiful and soulful here as well. Lovely.

  • I agree

  • peter gabriel. all the way.

  • maybe im just used to peter gabriel doing his song...i prefer him...But, she has her own style and mixing it with Peter's song just doesnt do it for me..but this is my opinion so dont send hate comments..just being honest..

  • i like this song......

  • this version looks So Sad = S, supposed to be a hAppy SonG

  • mm sad no, i think very personal and unique, i dont know her but she have a beauty voice.

  • you can't really compare sara bareilles and peter gabriel, especially in regard to their voices. they simply prefer different styles of singing. anyway, i like this version and it's nice to hear a PG song from a modern "pop star".

p.s.: she has fewer problems with the high notes, or am i wrong ;)?

  • I really like Sara Bareilles, but I think her voice doesnt really suit this song. There isn't enough emotion.

  • I really like this version, but that's probably because i love her voice.

  • its a cover...she can do whatever she wants with it...so why does it really matter...if you dont' like it there really is not need to comment on it

  • I disagree with the comments. I find this very good.

  • The instrumental part is very strong, But the vocal parts, annoy me especially at the end.

Peter gabriel wrote this very Out of the box

and this is to much in the box.

Compliments on how she looks, we can use some normallooking people in today's television.

  • In her rendition she skips a line or two but the lyrics are correct.
