@jacksonattack They are playing the song a bit too fast ... so the 2nd half of the song loses a bit of the original's charm but, overall these guys are the real deal. You only need look at this as proof how great this band is. Finishing a set with a Melvins cover, convincingly.

And in the age of smaller labels and Internet dispersal of music, more and more bands are actually profiting from sales on the Web. Mastodon themselves push iTunes sales for their music so I joined them.

@o0xyz0o You're pretty naive if you think artists receive any money from album sales. You are right about one thing, though. The best way to support a band is to buy a ticket to their show or buy some merch directly from them. That's how they make their living...not from the actual sale of music.

It's actually not a Yamaha. That guitar is made by First Act, and it is obviously a 12-string. Bill also has a 9-string First Act that he occasionally uses live.

@batastrophee Sure is - Mastodon released this on a tribute album some years ago, and they decided to end with it here, as well as when I saw them touring with Dethklok on Halloween in '09. Such a brilliant show, and somehow this song works awesomely as a closer.

@kemot112 I don't know, a ton of people in the crowd seemed to be super pumped that they were playing this song when they started. I mean, I know I first discovered The Melvins through Mastodon's studio cover of this song, and maybe the fans only know Melvins through their cover, but I'm sure a lot of the hardcore fans do know who they are.
