  • It's so good to see the president's family on youtube.

  • @HopeYouAllGetAIDS I hope you die a painful death. You're disgusting.

  • @IsaacDeanMusic

U mad, bro? He mad son!

  • Sad story... I'm ashamed that I laughed seeing this on koko.org.

  • We finally teach an animal to talk. He tells us he is said because we killed his mother. Nobody listens

  • @MrRuhhrohh

She came at them with a knife. We shoot gorillas all the time, they're called black people in this country. One of those apes are in the white house right now.

  • luckily, the sign language he learned is a media for him to share his traumatic experience. it helps him to cope with the nightmares he's been through...

  • @christajuli

Dude it's a fucking animal. Who the fuck gives a shit? I just ate like 3 different kinds of animals today. Should I feel bad now because my species reigns supreme? Or should I feel bad that my race is the master race? You guys are such nigger faggots.

  • That's freaking traumatizing. Witnessing your mother get shot, get her throat slit (Or shot in the neck), and butchered? Gorillas have to deal with a lot of crap...

  • wow poor Michael he was well aware what had happened to his mom, that's very sad...that just proves they have way more understanding than we think

  • Poachers should be POACHED!!!

  • Chilling.

  • 9 people don't believe in evolution.

  • @FrostyButts

It's not really funny, its sad//

  • @FrostyButts Gorillas communicate differently to humans, think of the concepts more than the words, shes not trying to formulate a sentence

  • @FrostyButts Obviously, sign language does not allow for connecting words like "for," "the," etc. Besides, the gorilla uses a simplified way of speaking. Think of a baby who is wants more cookies. What do you think they will say? "More cookie!" It's not a very complex sentence.

Anyway, what it sounds like Michael was trying to say is that he heard a sharp noise (gunshot) and someone cut his mother's neck. This made Michael very sad and hurt.

  • Holy Shit...

  • Retard selfish people these days. You go and take an animal that is nearly human away from its mother and kill it infront of the baby??? What the hell??? How would you like that to be done to you

  • @SourBerry4129 It still happens to humans in a lot of Africa and other parts of the world.

  • Poor thing.

  • sad

  • This made me cry.

  • Squash is prob getting hit in the face by a butt of a rifle

  • What does he mean by "Squash"?

  • WOW!

  • Please guys, care for the animals cause they have feelings too.

  • @toto458 ...toto458 said, moments before eating a hotdog and putting on his leather belt.

  • @MrTrollski Wow haha, I dont a aprove of this at all or agree at all, but this did make me laugh xD

  • @MrTrollski "Can the Kushite change his skin, or the leopard his spots? Then so you who are evil may do good."

  • @MarijuanaMichelle

Lecture lecture lecture lecture lecture lecture lecture lecture lecture lecture lecture lecture lecture lecture lecture lecture lecture lecture lecture lecture lecture lecture

  • Holy shit, the top right picture of 0:38, I thaught it was a child first. Oh mah gawd!

  • Walk into cool video. Everyones hating @ everyone. What do?

  • @MarijuanaMichelle There are no animals that do belong in zoos. To categorize animals in some psuedo-hierarchy of intelligence and use that to define acceptable levels of cruelty is awful in and of itself. We don't need to eat meat and we don't need to observe animals in fake micro habitats. We do it because of this elevated sense of "top of the food chain." It's terrible and it holds us back as a species and fucks our planet up in the process.

  • omg that's so sad what happened to his mother :( I am currently sponsoring an Orangutan (Krista) and to think what they have been thru, is so sad.

  • holy shit just how smart are these apes?

  • It looks like the Ape is just doing random stuff. I don't think he is relating a memory, he is just trying to say he is hungry.

  • @Xschtar Guess you're kind of a dumb ass then.

  • @Xschtar Maybe you are just an idiot? After all you don't know sign language so what do you know about it?

  • @Xschtar you sound like a real expert on the matter. I'm sure the idea of an ape communicating conflicts with your belief that humans are the only ones with "souls"

  • Why do apes need to communicate? I'm not against them being treated right and protected, but do they really need to talk and learn? And why are people always getting in a cage with something that could kill them by snapping their neck? Am I alone here?

  • @Olorune Why do humans need to communicate? I am not against them being treated right and protected, but do they really need to talk and learn? And why are people always going near something that could kill them by stabbing them or shooting them? Am I alone here?

  • @Olorune Yeah, you're alone here. Mostly because of your low intelligence.

  • @Olorune Forever alone there

  • @Olorune It's called science. People who observe and study these gorillas are called scientists. Their job is to learn about the world we live in. Gorillas are part of this world, so obviously we want to learn about them. And what better way to learn, than actual communication with the subject? The whole process itself is interesting. How well can a gorilla learn how to communicate?

  • @Olorune Primate study, especially communication, can reveal things about our own evolution. We are not really teaching them to talk so that they can be given further rights (that would merely be a happy coincidence), but for scientific study that may, possibly, further other scientific fields.

Research like this tends to be a bit blue-sky, with no apparent "end result". However, it will often have ancillary benefits to other fields of study.

  • I don't want to live on a planet without great apes.

  • holy sweet apes we're all gonna be killed by apes

  • cada vez veo menos diferencias entre los humanos y el resto de animales. El ser humano, eso sí, es mucho más destructivo.

  • And this is why Planet of the Apes exist.

  • Krótkie, a mocne

  • KOKO I LOVE YOU

  • well fuck me. I never realised they could use that sign language to actually tell a story.

  • HA!

  • Not sure how they interpreted his words in the complexity that the subtitles suggest...

  • @machogun What complexity? He just made the signs for those words.

  • and then he took apart a fence and stabbed people with the pieces

  • He's more articulate than half the people I've argued with on the internet.

  • @jsd013 YES

  • @jsd013

Penis penis penis penis penis penis penis penis

  • @jsd013 thats why you wait until they finish cruising the porn highways.

  • @jsd013 dang, it only let me vote 'thumbs-up' once:D

  • I find this video disturbing. This is like the equivalent of actually being able to communicate with the horde.

  • Rise of the Planets of the Apes.

  • Just amazing, should put to rest that animals are similar to people. Just not as smart.

  • Lol that monkey can talk

  • If planet of the apes ever becomes reality i'm gonna rooting for the apes because humans keep proving how evil they can be.

  • Their helping the gorilla by teaching it sign language? Let it run free in the jungle.

  • Amazing, really touching.

  • I want to have a conversation with a gorilla.

  • holy shit.

  • It's amazing how smart these animals are, and really sad to hear his story. Do you know of any good documentaries to watch about this kind of thing?

  • @apopheniacMCMLXXXIX

It's not logical to believe an ape can articulate specific words with rudimentary sign language. ASL users use a great deal of context clues when they communicate- it may seem vague to an outsider but it is very concise to those who understand it.

Don't be so quick to throw down the gauntlet and expect and egg on arguments. That's a pretty emotional thing to do.

  • @apopheniacMCMLXXXIX I agree with you, it's almost like Nostradamus said stuff in short, vague ways like this and if it happened to coincide with an actual event, then we get "see, he was RIGHT!".. because he said 'air wreck' and a tornado happened to come through.

  • @shep2112 Your analogy doesn't make any sense. What vested interest do you have in disproving this? Does it have anything to do with a belief that humans are the only "holy" creatures with souls? Does this make you think about evolution, and then you get all squirmy and uncomfortable?

  • @waitwhatwasthat Not uncomfortable at all. I believe in evolution and not creationism. :) Just seems like the words are a little vague here. I'd like to believe it though, but there does seem to be a bit of hearing what you want to hear, coming into play.

  • @shep2112 I take it back then, but...I'm sure some people see this as a challenge to their place on the pedestal. This video does need further explanation and I wouldn't suggest we change our whole paradigm because of one YouTube clip. If it was 20 minutes of nonsense, then I would agree with your Nostradamus comment. But assuming this video is legit, I do think that there is evidence of communication of thought. Personally, I defer to the professionals on the matter, not just speculation.

  • @waitwhatwasthat That's true too. And I guess sign language itself is limited in words as well. :)

  • @apopheniacMCMLXXXIX Well, your logic is flawed.

  • @apopheniacMCMLXXXIX

Sign language itself is never really composed of full sentences even when used by humans. It uses individual words and short phrases to communicate. Sign language does not contain articles such as "the, a, an, etc.." so when reading a direct translation of sign language it is always harder to make sense of than written English and just seems like a terrible translation of Chinese or something. Michael is communication at about the level of a young child.

  • baby gorillas look like they have people faces with big noses

  • rise of the planet of the apes!

  • Wow, this is mesmerising

  • Planet of the Apes any one?

  • Wait, so they taught a gorilla sign language? AWESOME. I was not aware that guerillas were capable of that

  • The 4 dislike are from 4 people that disliked this.

  • @greenskeeper3000 welcome to the tautology clube

  • "Three former female employees have claimed that they were pressured into showing their breasts to Koko. They alleged that Patterson encouraged the behavior, often interpreted Koko's signs as requests for nipple display, and let them know that their job would be in danger if they "did not indulge Koko's nipple fetish" #LOL

  • I doubt hes actually "tallking", hes probably just reciting what the trainer taught him.

  • @wywywy5 Well, just like you. You probably are reciting what your trainer taught you to say.

  • @wywywy5 i could see that as a reasonalbe possibility

  • @wywywy5 Why do you have such an inherent distrust of scientific research. Do you really think that this study is some kind of hoax to trick you? You are presumably on a computer reading and watching this because of scientific reasearch. But it doesn't bother you because it doesn't challenge anything you believe.

  • wat

  • The 3 dislikes were from the poachers that killed his mother...

  • africans gotta eat too.

  • @Joseph24300 Are you suggesting cannibalism is okay? I know it's not cannibalism, but many of the ethical problems of cannibalism are applicable in instances like these, as evidenced by this video.

  • @trevor512 There is nothing wrong with cannibalism.

  • Yes, if one decided to "act" retarded they would be illegally retarded

  • That is incredible...

  • how the fuck did they teach him sign language?

  • @LazySmi you see theres this magical gas...

  • Does it bother anyone that these gorilla's probably communicate better and are a lot smarter than a lot of legally retarded people in this world?

    Am I the only one?

  • @Corvus133

Only if by "legally retarded" you mean Republicans.

  • @decadyne That's not nice. Calling Republicans "retarded" is an insult to retarded people.

  • @SaiyanKirby its not an insult to retarded people. retarded is a word that means "lacking" not a direct quality of retarded people.

  • @MorkDesign Sorry for the semantics: "retarded" means "slow, delayed, underdeveloped," etc., not "lacking". But I agree that using the word shouldn't always be considered an insult to mentally challenged people.

  • @MorkDesign The word "retarded" actually means "slowed", not "lacking". I was being sarcastic.

  • @SaiyanKirby republicans argue in a gorila video? wtf?

  • @Luisitox5 I'm a democrat.

  • @Luisitox5 "argue" is the only language they speak

  • @Luisitox5 oh yeah, that and violence/murder; they're fluent in that as well

  • @Corvus133

    As opposed to illegal retards?

  • Man that baby gorilla picture freaked me right the fuck out.

  • @Nameless164 LOL it's just a poor baby gorilla, give it a break.

  • how do we know this gorilla isn't just moving its hands around and someone put words to it?

  • @gayponyrape because sign language is a LANGUAGE you idiot haha.. each movement means a different word.. god save us all from this planet of idiots

  • PLANET OF THE APES! SO IT HAS BEGUN!

  • @Missin187 'Ey, I honestly wouldn't have a problem with planet of the apes. IIRC that planet was doing way better than Earth, except for the fact that it took ages till one finally realized that the protagonist can talk xD

  • @sookoll23 I wouldn't mind to!

  • Thank God cows can't sign.

  • @nijonze LOL

  • We love you, Michael.

  • buck!

  • FUCKING CRAZY. Poor Micheal...but omg, the gorilla is freaking communicating. That is amazing. Also, I really wish XKCD could implant that machine unto Youtube that makes it read your comments back to you. Half of these morons would be crying over a bottle of Jack saying "Oh...I'm stupid. I didn't know."

  • They're rising......

  • damn dirty ape

  • @RosscoRussell EXACTLY! THATS WHAT IT NEEDED! Its people like you who make me think humanity is in great shape!

    /sarcasm

  • That's life in the ghetto.

  • @thenfm You're an ass.

  • @ulrichgilros u want your lips around my asshole? GROSS

  • @ulrichgilros A funny, funny ass.

  • They can learn about 200 signs. Humans memory capacity is infinitely greater, but that doesn't make the apes dumb, I think they are pretty smart not just quite up there with us.

  • @Shahablo Can you argue that humans do anything different to that?

  • @Shahablo They don't understand syntax well, word placement if you don't know what that means. I seriously doubt that they get extra food for forming coherent sentences, I don't really see why it's so hard to believe that a Gorilla could understand the world well enough to relay a memory as simple and traumatic as that. It's been pretty well documented that some higher primates can learn sign.

  • @Liamcc2 He thinks syntax is the extra bit you have to pay when you buy cigarettes, alcohol, and lotto tickets.

  • @Shahablo if you have ever worked with a deaf human who uses ASL, the syntax is different from English. Would you say they only do it for food?

  • @reptilegrrl Yeah, because if they didn't do it no one would pay attention to them and they would end up starving. Deaf people are greedy assholes.

  • @Shahablo Looks like we have another expert on our hands. What are you so afraid of? Does this challenge something deep inside you?

  • this is actually so increible. speeeeeechless.

  • @BWCmike Knock off the racism. Besides, did you ever think that gorillas simply were created to teach us about the more vunerable of all "racial" (ethnic) backgrounds (e.g., young children and the elderly)?

  • @Nickidewbear Did you ever think that maybe gorillas and all animals might not have been created by a tall guy with long white hair?

Instead if thinking of animals in terms of how useful they are to us, how about we try to think of them as fellow creatures who took the journey of evolution with us. Just because you're smarter than someone or something doesn't give you the right to play God and assume you know it's purpose. The purpose of life is to exist, there is no purpose only existence.

  • @Nickidewbear Once you realize that you weren't put on this planet for a purpose, you just happened to come into existence a this point in time, you are free to choose your own purpose. Like every other animal in nature, you should do what makes you happy. You don't need to hope and pray for happiness in the afterlife just because some humans say so.

  • @v3ngence

    *fist bump*

  • @Nickidewbear The point of existence is to create your own purpose and meaning. The sad and hopeless life is the one who's choices and actions are preordained by the archaic, bronze-age ideals of a 6,000 year old fairy tale.

  • @hettbeans This is what I like to hear.

  • @Nickidewbear So, the "purpose" given to you by a primitive nomadic tribe makes you happy?

Or does the holy spirit beam some sort of "happiness laser" into your brain, and only the religious get to experience. Why do you religious folk always insist that those without faith are "sad and hopeless". I don't feel that way at all.

  • @BWCmike The facial angle of a white person is extremely close to that of a baboon. And Baboons are assholes. HOLY SHIT, MIND BLOWN.

  • @MrVistaCruiser how do you know they don't, you are not them;)

  • I seriously almost cried I want to work with the people who work with Koko and (did) Work with Michael, I want to help start a fundraiser to help Support this foundation, and I think since Koko is the only one left of her kind, they should start a program where they find orphaned or abandoned gorillas and teach them sign language. Like if you agree

  • @0LittleRed0 it would be a fascinating study and I would love to see it done, but I honestly don't know if the world is truly ready for that kind of thing. It would profoundly shake up many people's views of themselves, and I could easily see it getting a bit scary with some of the crazies out there.

  • Wow...

  • Thank you so much for this ...

  • Do pigs feel the same? ANd other farm animals?

  • @generatorium yes

  • @generatorium Let's assume they do, until we can prove they can't, instead of the other way around.

  • I can't even imagine the trauma... Fucking bastards.

  • Did Michael understand that you were making him relive this horable event to pevent future. Tragic events? He had PTSD, so how much damage did this do? The hunters were uneffected, you can take that to the bank. I just hate to see this wonderful animal damaged further for little to no gain.
