usc was 8-3-1 and big bad oregon was 9-4 in a crappy pac 10 conference that year. Florida was 10-2 in a "real" conference, something the big joke, or i mean the big 10 will never be. Also Nebraska went 13-0 (played a extra game over psu) and had to hold off a very tough colordo team that was 11-1. The runner up in the big joke had 4 losses!! bottom line, Nebraska played more games and played tougher competition which is something psu never does (coastal carolina anyone? hahaha) and Neb earned it

Unfortunately, the title game couldn't have been proven on the field.
