this has to be one of the best war books ive ever read! Guy Sajer was not a nazi but a 16 year old boy who got dragged into the war. a very true and great account:)
Yes, a truly magnificent book written from Sajer's heart. I've read it several times. It never ceases to amaze me. How do you access his pictures on the internet? Would
@mattegunnar of course they should! but it would not be better than the book) im re reading it right now!!! also check out the winds of war thats a good ww2 book as well
The best book i've ever read, very well written. Depicts the death throes of the German Army in the East and the barbarity of the reds. The Germans truly were magnificent soldiers, after Kursk till the end of the War they proved time and time again their bravery and professionalism. I salute them.
I read the English version, it's not a comfortable book, but you won't be able to put it down once you start reading it. I cannot recommend this book enough, but it's extremely disturbing. It's not just an first person experience of the war, it's a literary classic on its own right, well written, very well written, which only adds to sense of unmitigated tragedy of it all. Read it, it'll change you.
just finished this book ,last week.couldnt put it down.ive been interested in the ostfront since i read my first sven hassel over 20 years ago!but this was in a different leauge, just fantastic.
Original caption: December 23, 1943 - Russia: German caption accompanying this photos says that Nazi guard sits alert in dugout where lay dead Russians after a battle in which this trench was bombarded by the Germans.
im just reading the german one. The title is a bit different from the original one(le soldat oublie). Here its" Denn dieser Tage Qual war lang" which means sth. like "Cuz those days pain was huge " - thats a saying from Friedrich Schillers drama WALLENSTEIN.
