  • hey i gots me a question.... this has a 4 ohm impedance... I heard the cab it comes with, doesn't realy do it any justice because its a mono amp. Now i found a reasonable priced stereo/mono Acoustic lead series cab, that works at 4ohm or 16 ohm mono and 8ohm stereo.... the general rule of thumb is that the cam impedance should be equal or greater than the amphead so as to not burn out the amp head. do i have to match wattage for both head and cab, eg) 100watthead=100wattcab ?

  • at 2:51-3:17 what song is that

  • @proegerman1 It's actually a mash-up of two Opeth songs, "The Baying of the Hounds" and "Ghost of Perdition."

  • @didhereallysay thank you

  • You obviously use this for metal and it sounds great, with the gain dialed back and the eq a little different, would you say this would work for general alt-rock (pumpkins, nirvana, foo fighters etc) type stuff?

  • @ThePowrWithn Take a look at the 2nd amp demonstration video on my channel and you'll hear a part in there were I demonstrate an alt-rock or pop-punk type tone from this head.

  • @didhereallysay Right on, thank you! Does the "Hot" channel always sound so scooped? Or is the EQ pretty flexible?

  • @ThePowrWithn No, the "Hot" channel is always so scooped. In this video, I had the X mode on most of the time, which scoops it. In the 2nd video, I had the X mode off most of the time.

  • This amp is solid state correct?

  • @pijpok Yep, that's right. No tubes.

  • @didhereallysay Wow this amp sounds really good for a solid state! (not to say solid state amps or bad or anything, but this one is exceptional.)

  • Is the older version similar to this head sound?

  • @DieToFleshNotSpirit I'm not sure what you're referring to as "older." It's the same amp head in both of my videos. The only thing different is the speaker cabinet and mic placement. This video's sound was recorded by my camera's mic instead of a studio mic up 3 inches in front of the speaker cone like the other video.

  • @didhereallysay Sorry, I meant that if the older version of this head is similar, is there lots of differences?

  • @DieToFleshNotSpirit Actually, I wish I could answer that, but I've never played the older version.

  • thanks for the one great review bro, i come back and watch this to remind me why i'm about to buy this amp :D

im just not sure about the cabinet, suggestions plz? thanks

  • @k13ubba13 You're welcome. As far as speaker cabs go, the best advice I ever got was this: "Choose the speakers that sound the best to your ears." Play it before you buy it to test it out, but keep your amp head settings the same each time, that way you know what it sounds like through each cab. That all being said, I have an Egnater Tourmaster cabinet with Celestion Vintage 30 speakers in it, which I love.

  • Do you know what the hue knob does?

Also, thumbs up for playing that bit from Mellotron Scratch.

  • @PrimusSucks626 The hue knob changes the amp's equalization bias in a sweeping fashion. Left to right is bass to treble, with mids being obviously inbetween.

  • i saw this amp on guitar center website and it was the price tag that caught my eye, im looking for a high gain amp for a low budget, and i really didnt want a line 6 cuz i hate line 6..you convinced me tho,you did a good review, focused on the amp and did less talking very helpful, thanks alot

  • Yo bro!! Cool demo!! We in the band are planning to buy this amp and your post helps. Dark Hound - Paint It White kicks ass \m/

Please check our band too Bloodshedd - Time For You To Die (Official Music Video)

    Metal \m/

  • are you using active pickups?

  • @hellraiserharry I'm actually not sure... I made this video nearly four years ago and I can't remember if I used my Ibanez RG w/ passives or my Schecter C-1 w/ actives.

  • You just named all of my favorite bands

  • Is someone interested in buying this amp? I`m selling my Ibanez TBX 150H(guarantee til may 2012) ... So if interested, don't hesitate to message me. By the way, I'm from Bavaria, Germany. But i hope this is no problem :D

  • When I saw that Petrucci button my eyes lit up xD

  • @10Plaguesofficial Wouldn't that be awesome?

  • @didhereallysay It would be mother freakin amazing =P Btw I'm looking for a head atm and I was thinking of saving for a Peavey 3120 and I'm playing through a Dean RC7X (7 string with EMG 707's) but this obviously sounds pretty good especially for the price but I don't want that high gain sound I want that, well, John Petrucci really grunty low end sound that's not making me sound all fuzzy. This amp up to that?

  • @10Plaguesofficial Unfortunately, you should probably look elsewhere. This amp's pretty gainy, not very sludgy. He uses Mesa Boogie Mark IV or V's, I believe.

  • @didhereallysay yeah but those'll cost ya an arm and a leg and a testicle and a kidney =/ Thanks for your help anyway :)

  • @GasserVsGoodyball Caught that, did you?

  • @didhereallysay is it a good high gain amp?

  • @didhereallysay or in other words is it good for metalcore stuff?

  • @undercoverdude87 I've played Killswitch Engage with it before, but I haven't tried it extensively on metalcore. Shop around, there might be better amps for the price.

  • did that head come with a footswitch or did you would have to buy one?

  • @Treythemusician I did have to buy it separately, but Ibanez makes two footswitches for it. One of them has two switches (Channel selector and Reverb on/off) and one has four (Channel, X Mode, Reverb on/off, Overdrive on/off in Clean channel.)

  • @didhereallysay thanks man, would you say this is good for killswitch engage, lamb of god, and pantera? ive played it before but never owned one, so yeah XD

  • @Treythemusician I guess so... It's up to you to decide. I've played Killswitch with it and it sounded good to my ears.

  • @didhereallysay is this get beer spilled on kicked around gig worthy?

  • @Treythemusician The rock lifestyle is cool, but the best rockers still don't make a habit of spilling beer on their amps or having their amps kicked around. Respect your gear and you won't end up sounding like hell when you play it. Disrespect your gear and don't expect it to like you back.

  • @didhereallysay hypothetical. i would never treat my gear like such. i plan on using this amp for a whillllleee so eventually things could happen out of my power. do you think it could handle a fall or spillage?

  • @Treythemusician From what I can hear, I think it's got a spring reverb in it, which won't last many falls. Amp heads generally aren't designed to sustain falls or liquids spilling on them. That being said, this amp's insides are very well-cased, so there aren't a lot of open areas for liquid to damage in case of a spill. So that's good.

  • Hey dude I have the same head and Im having tone troubles. What were the settings to produce the meshuggah tone in the beggining?

  • @Potatoe227 I don't remember, actually. I did this video three years ago. Sorry!

  • Hi man! Wow i never heard a head with so much crunch without any pedals/efects!!!

You sure your pluged right in the amp?!?!?!

  • @sebcore2007 Oh yeah. One cable, one switch. Boom.

  • Riff at 2:50 was sick...What was it?

  • @blazehand187 Opeth - "Ghost of Perdition." It's from a revolutionary Swedish melodic metal group.

  • @didhereallysay Dude...Thanks for turning me onto an awesome band

  • its solid state right?

  • Random question...but you wouldn't happen to remember any of the settings you had this amp on, would you? More specifically, the Opeth setting when you played the big open chords.

  • @hiddenoath I don't. This video was shot 3 years ago. Sorry!

  • I play august burns red stuff.. i saw this head in a music store and tried it. loved the sound but it had a lot of feedback.. think it may have ben the cheap Kustom cab.. is it?

  • @oOPeaveYOo No, it's definitely the head. You probably had the "gain" knob up far too high. A speaker cabinet can only do what an input (a guitar amp) tells it what to do. Feedback comes from the speaker's sound being picked up by your guitar's pickups and fed back into the amp, so be wary of where your pickups are facing, too.

  • thats right . IM SO DUMB. i was sitting right next to the cabinet. O.O. wow. i feel super dumb.

  • it's weird because with mine, the X mode takes away from the sound...I use mine with a 4-12 cab....I def think it's a good metal amp and for the cost...you can't beat it. I'm looking to get more of a defined distortion out of it and I'm gonna look at getting a good stomp box to give more of a "marshall" kinda distortion and run that with the clean channel. Has anyone put a distortion pedal with it and used it that way

  • wrong not od but it's hot channel...

  • i mostly play soad style and metallica but do u think that this amp head overdrive could give a good sound for smells like teen spirit??

  • once you master a really good tone on these amps they become one of the best ss amps you can ever get.

  • 2:51

  • Is it only me or do u have the amps under your bed? XD

  • @Perfixesus It's not you -- That was back when I was in a dorm in college in 2008. You make do with the space you have, hahaha

  • @didhereallysay Hahaha, true, true, My problem is that I want to get a top and cab, but I have no place what so ever in my room, I'll have to put it in another room or take out my keyboard or something if I get a 4 12! Btw, is the TBX a tube amp? I can't find that in the magazines I have! :/

  • @Perfixesus The TBX actually isn't a tube amp. It's all solid state, which was why it was so impressive to me.

  • @didhereallysay Damn, I wished for it to be a tube amp! :( I really like it, and thought of buying it, but I want it to be tube so that it'll go well together with pedals and my Zoom effect box. Does it have tube sibling or something?

  • @Perfixesus That, I do not know... Some Google research will probably fill you in.

  • @didhereallysay k, well thnx anyway!

  • @didhereallysay high gain amps usually need a noise gate . or noise reduction pedal. because the gain really boosts the white noise

  • @Perfixesus an amp doesn't have to be a tube amp to be good with pedals tubes only add a little warmth but a decent made solid state amp will be fine

  • @alvarg Yeah, but all my friends tells me that I should go with a tube amp, and my dad who has been playing professionally for like 20 years tells me that to, so that's why I wanted to have a nice tube amp. Btw, would you be able to put tubes in a transistor?

  • @Perfixesus tube is better than solid state hands down but the price shows

a good tube amp costs around $1000

  • @k1leadgeetah Yeah, I kinda got that, since I play high gain power and heavy metal, I can't really work with a Fender 15 watt 1"10 combo...

  • @didhereallysay i got to say the clean channel sounded really warm at 5:09 curious do u still use this amp, would u recommend this amp for some with a budget that needs something that sounds good quiet-ish?

  • @alvarg If you're looking for a purely clean amp, this is not the way to go. This amp is good if you want to be able to do both metal and clean playing with one amp, but if you're strictly looking for clean, don't put your all your money on this amp. Fender has amazing amps for that.

  • @didhereallysay nooooo i play Deathmetal and Metalcore and Deathcore and REAL HEAVY like DROP A-D stuff lol.

  • @alvarg Oh, so you want something that handles good quiet cleans AND heavy things? I'd say this is a great pick for that.

  • @didhereallysay i think we agree lol

  • what was that song at 3:30?

  • @XBOX360BEASTrul1 That was Opeth's "The Drapery Falls" -- I LOVE those chord shapes.

  • @didhereallysay ik man me too! thats why i asked lol

  • Comment removed

  • kinda reminds me of the Randall rg100 head dimebag used for a lot their stuff. it even kinda looks like it. I definitely know what head im gettin next. Thanks for the review.

  • Freekin Sweet Review Man!! This is my first choice. I got a month to make a decision on an a half stack so any suggestions on what cabinet would go great with this head to total around $550? Style Melodic Death Metal, Progressive Metal, Metalcore. Please let me know...

  • @CuzWereSpecial Hmm... I always tell everyone to try before you buy. If you have a Guitar Center/Samash/big retailer near you, go there and ask to demo some speaker cabinets. Everyone's tastes are different. Me, I look for an amp that's going to bias the sound the least, so that you hear the amp head, and not the cabinet, affecting the sound. I would generally say this amp's more suited to prog-metal than other genres, but that's just me.

  • Would this amp be good for getting a "Metallica"-sound? How do you like the clean channel on it too by the way?

  • @BowlingWithGrenades Watch my 2nd amp demo review. I actually play master of Puppets at the end.

  • @didhereallysay Yes I saw it, but I wondered how close to that Metallica guitar tone you can get with the amp, like on the Master of Puppets or Ride The Lightning albums for example.

    Is the clean channel satisfactory?

  • @BowlingWithGrenades Like I tell everyone, if you want Metallica's guitar sound, use the amps Metallica used. Marshalls. I already demo'd several different tones of the clean channel in that 2nd amp video that you saw. It's up to you if it's satisfactory for you or not.

  • 3:29 -> sounds like Opeth and Katatonia :)

Thanks for this sound review, I'm thinking of buying that head since it's not very expensive. I also have a Korg AX1500G with cool effects, have you ever try the clean chan with a pedal?

  • Hey thanks for this video, it helped me, im looking to replace my line6 , but i notice your tone is pretty "trebily" Umm when you turn the mids up does it still sound good? Since i play thrash metal and its pretty Mid oriented. Thanks

  • @PoliticalDestruction If you turn up the mids, it'll sound very mid-biased, of course. Whether or not that's a good thing is really up to you. All I've got is my opinion on it. I don't think it sounds great when the mids are cranked, but that's just me. I play with the mids a little more than halfway cranked, level-wise. But there is a frequency attenuation knob, so that adds in an X factor.

  • i have this amp and i love it!! awesome for metal, i picked this over the mesa boogie triple rectifier

  • holy shit, man. this thing sounds sweet. great review. i was wanting a new head/cab and i was thinking about getting an MG100FX (cause i have an MG30FX that i love) but i decided to check what Ibanez had in their pile. and oh my god, i'm sold. i like the 4-channel, "better Line-6" technology that Marshall has in their amps, but hell, this has just a better sound to it that trumps that. this is gonna be my next solid-state amp purchase probably.

  • lol "petrucci button................. i wish"

  • Or should i just get the combo? Does it have all the same features as this amp?

  • If i get this head, what "box" should i get? This head says 150 watts so is it okey if i buy a 2x12 box with 150-200 watts?

  • can you send me to settings ? :o

  • has anyone here tried ts9 on this amp??? DOES IT SOUND GOOD???

  • has anyone here tried ts9 on this amp??? DOES IT SOUND GOOD???

  • Really nice cleans. (I'm digging the Opeth and Porcupine Tree!) also the light distortion stuff sounds great. Everything else sounds really digital to me though :/

Put for the price, damn its great!

  • For that price that amp rocks:)

  • I have an orange 212 cab which is 120 watts. Will it handle this head if i keep the volume down? or should i not risk it?

  • @DylanEggert I'm not really sure. I'm not a professional. Sorry.

  • @didhereallysay heads 150, the speakers would probably blow rather quick

  • @DylanEggert The orange 212 cab probably has Celestion Vintage 30's in it. They are rated at 60 watts a piece. This amp runs 75 watts per channel. At over $500 for an Orange 212 cab, I wouldn't risk it.....

  • @DylanEggert if the ohms on the amp are matched to the speaker ohms your good

  • @DylanEggert Amp probably won't handle that cab, too much impedance.

  • @DylanEggert as long as you match the ohms and you don't max it then yes your cab will be fine.

  • @DylanEggert yes it can, and you can turn it as loud as you want as long as the ohms are right and you dont push it to the point of break up/speaker distortion

  • @DylanEggert Don't risk it. You could destroy both the head and the cab.

  • @DylanEggert it should handle it. it depends on the ohms, not the wattage. its set for 8 but self biases to 4 and 16

  • whats the difference between distortion and overdrive

  • @nowak101 Are you talking about in general, or about this amp? On this amp, there is a dedicated distortion channel that you can switch to. And on the dedicated clean channel, there is an "overdrive" switch, which adds some grit to your clean tone.

  • @didhereallysay

im just saying in general whats the difference

  • @nowak101 They both pretty much are the same thing, only "distortion" has a lot more grit than "overdrive." Overdrive is what Eric Clapton uses, whereas distortion is what a death metal band uses.

  • how good is this for stuff like Iron maiden and Black Sabbath?

  • @IbanezShredz55 Sabbath is a completely different thing. Look up what Tony Iommi plays through to get a better idea of what you'd need to sound legit with Sabbath stuff. This amp handles Maiden alright.

  • Diggin' the Vai at the beginning...

  • The best it sounds (for me) is when you talk about it at lower gain levels for "defined stuff" playing Opeth. What are the settings for bass/mid/treble during that?

  • @shawntmartin I have no idea, honestly. I recorded this video 3 years ago, and I've changed my settings a lot since then.

  • @didhereallysay Can you run a rack through the TBX150H? cause I didn't see a loop

  • @777ELITE666 It has a Send and Return, so yes. I haven't tried it because I don't use a rack, but I'm sure you can.

  • @didhereallysay Cool. I thought about a BBE and Furman PC.

  • @MrIplayguitar probly, but i hate solid states now. I didnt have much knowledge when i bought it a couple years back i just thought its big it must be good. But im going to get marshal cab with v30s with the peavey and tube screamer so it will kick the shit outa my one, lol

  • @MrIplayguitar well my stack sounds like shit now lol, but im gonna buy a valve-king and mod that

  • does it always feedback like that? have you gigged with it? if so did it feedback then?

  • @andremamola810 No, it doesn't always feed back like that. I had the gain up severely high. High gain on any amp will feed back, so just watch your gainstaging. I have gigged many times with this amp. It only fed back to me if I had the gain too high.

  • What Opeth song was that that you played?

  • @CrossPain11 I played two parts of "Ghost of Perdition"

  • Is this amp fuzzy? Fuzzy i mean like a cheap distortion pedal through a solid state amp?

  • @DedeAsPsichas No. It is the amp's distortion and nothing else.

  • PETRUCCI BUTTON!

  • PETRUCCI BUTTON!

  • how versatile is it? nice review btw.

  • @danlegend121 Check out my Youtube page to find my other amp demo. I do a range of sounds on that one.

  • someone likes opeth...

    HELL YEAH!!

  • hey nice demo but 2 questions...would this be good for a live show and on the footswitch(if you have it) is there a way to boost the volume so that if ur playing live for a solo

  • @RyeToDaEyE Thanks. I've used it for all of my live shows in the last three years, and it's been great. I wish I had a noise gate because of the feedback sometimes, but that's the reason noise gate pedals were invented -- not a problem with the amp. As for the footswitch, it just switches between clean and distortion channels, not volume. If you want to up your volume for a solo, I'd suggest getting a volume pedal. Boss makes good pedals.

  • @didhereallysay

    alright thank you

  • @RyeToDaEyE lol trust me this amp is good for like a week, then you realized you wasted your money, best save up for a mesa in a few years :)

  • is there anyway to reduce the buzzing?

  • @TDWPbassistAILD That would be with a noise gate. You set the amplitude level you want your gate to open at and you make that level higher than the buzz level.

  • @didhereallysay thanks. and i've heard this amp is very quiet for 150 watts. is this true?

  • @TDWPbassistAILD Normally, yes.

  • the intro song is All about Eve by Steve Vai.

  • OMG 6:42 ... IM BUYING THIS ONE!!! THANKS FOR THE DEMO DUDE

  • This is the best review for this amp head.

  • What about the clean channel?

can you do some good clean sounds?

  • @AnRTPgA The clean sound demos are on my 2nd amp demo video.

  • hey man. does it come with a footswitch? p.s i wernt able to watc the whole vid.

  • @synystergates151 It doesn't come with a footswitch, but there is a footswitch made just for this model that you can buy separately.

  • how would this amp do for punk?

  • @hrdcorhippy I haven't tried it much, but check out my 2nd amp demo video for a part where I demo a sort of pop-punk sound. I bet it would be an okay amp for that.

  • Great review man. I am going to buy one now.

  • This amp really has the best tone of any non tube I have heard. The gain channel is massive. I am looking at spending like $200 to retube my main head, this puppy goes for $250 on MusiciansFriend, com, I am looking seriously at just giving this a shot for low maintenance. Seems to have great tone even on cleans.

  • @CarvinTone Check out my third demo video for it to hear some quality mic'd sounds from it.

  • does this amp head save your setting? please help

  • @beneatworld Yes. The amp's knobs aren't digital, so they will always stay where you set them.

  • How much does this beast cost and is it powerfull in real life cuz through a video it always sound a little bit worse ... so im askin the price and does it have enough juice to do its job

  • @trolior The price depends on where you buy it. I'd check out Guitar Center or Samash for some good prices. I got mine several years ago, so I don't know what it's selling for now. It's definitely powerful in real life. If you google "Dark Hound Nashville Myspace", you'll get to my last band's myspace where you can hear my amp on our recordings (the band is Dark Hound)

  • @didhereallysay Im actually asking what would be the price range ... like i dont know 1000 - 1500 or 800 - 1500 or what ever , cuz i have a minicibe and its really weak so if you could like suggest me a cheap and strong amp for metal i would be really greatful

  • @trolior Oh, this amp should only be about $200-$350 in price range.

  • How would this amps be for styles like Green Day?

  • @JuulYT Dont play around like that, any amp would work for green day, all you need is a small amount of distortion and you are fine. But yes, it would work :P

  • You think this amp would work well with 8 string guitars? For Djent?

  • @ozzma9898 I would guess so, because you're not changing anything about the amp when you go from a regular 6 string to an 8 string. I've never tried an 8 string.

  • @ozzma9898 It will, i played it at a local guitar store and dialed it in for djent, and it sounds great. It almost sounds like a tube amp, it is a very clear and high gain amp, beautiful definition.

  • I have a Death Metal Band/ Black Metal Band. Would this be a good amp to use for me? The guitar parts sound something like Job For A Cowboy, Behemoth, and Children of Bodom( Just not as fast)

  • @SickStickProductions Sure, the tone of this thing, especially when palm muting, is killer.

  • Would this amp be good for Avenged Sevenfold?
