IMO the toughest and meanest cichlid is the Buttikoferi.

Well, only possible way for a 13 red devil to kill 17 Dovii is that Dovii is sick or injured. Really, 17 in Dovii can kill pair of 13 Red devils that are defending fry.

Although, my Dovii when it was 3 inches lost fight to 2.5 inch N.Savoryi female (he was inroduced into that tank, because he got beaten up by a larger male) he beat her and eventually killed her after some time. It was the only fish that I had expirience to win a fight agaist Dovii.

Red Devils are prety darn tough, about the only thing that can hang is a Red Snakehead, I just got my first Dovii so I will find out, hopefully I can remove the other fish one by one as they fall without them getting killed, the Red devil had to be taken out because he was a bit bigger and was beating everybody up, I'm excited about the Wolf cichlid though !

@JETSTA916 Now are you talking about the Amphilophus Labiatus, or a Midas? Because both of them are tough indeed but the Labiatus Red Devil the true red devil is much tougher then it's close cc the Midas. And with that said a fully grown adult Dovii is the TOUGHEST OF THEM ALL !!!

Dhonti cichlids would be the MOST DESTRUCTIVE if they got to 12''. A 12'' dhonti could take out a 24'' dovii with they ferocious jaws.

@oakleys01 It's not impossible, I've seen little 3 inch devils take out 4 inch dovii's. IMO people think the dovii is the meanest and baddest because of its size, really a fish is mature right when it can breed, red devil's breed at 5 inches(mature) dovii's breed at 5 inches too(mature), Most likely Red Devil Wins, it's jaws are better for gripping onto other fishes lips to lip lock, dovii's lips are for eating and swallowing smaller fish whole. that means the devil will lock both of his lips.

i've owned red devils,snakeheads,doviis,and umbees. i'm not kidding when i say this. my dovii took over the whole tank and everyone else wound up on the other side just starring at the dovii. the snakehead beat the crap out of my umbee and then my huge red devil. the only fish the snake head was scared of was a buttifofri and dovii

dude every fish is different. i was stunned myself. my umbee was not fully grown 18-20inches but still huge. snakehead was just plain evil. he attacked the umbee always at night. until the umbee hit the tank so hard from trying to escape he broke his mouth and couldn't eat. i was stupid back then! red devil and snakehead were actually friends until the snakehead attacked him. i must say the rd had a better defense against the snake head.

dude. i love the umbee. its a beautiful fish. maybe once they get over 24 inches i did hear they are unstoppable. there agression is 100 times worse. thats what i heard. but i would have to go with the dovii from what i seen. snakehead wanted no part of him. the locked once and the dovii's mouth covered the snakehead trying to drown him. it was unbelivable. the snakehead stayed away after that. my red devil beat the shit out of my buttokifire. but buttocoffri beat up the snakehead also.

i couldn'f figure out why the buttocofri who got bullied by all the other fish including the umbee scared the snakehead the most. its hard to predict whats what in the fish world.
