Hey great man, touched by and saw some of your lessons and Covers! GREAT! This song is one of my favourite of P.Carrack (and Ace) "An Ace Album" was a great LP and I still have it in my LP-Board. SUBSCRIBED! ;-) Have a good time and the best regards from COLOGNE / GERMANY from
sure appreciate your kind words and thanks for giving your time to check out the vids!! I agree PC is just an amazing artist...thanks for the sub and keep enjoying your music!!
to mute a string you just have to keep it from vibrating which can be done by either hand in different ways - you will get it - have another player show you, most of all keep pickin!!
Thank you so much for going through this song. I've loved it since I bought the album in 7th grade. Thanks for providing all the alternate ways to play it. You have good taste in music, but I already knew that from your other lessons and performances.
appreciate you checking it out and thanks for the kind post! It's a CS tele, the neck is an uncovered flatpole - i appreciate the feedback, i like a mellow strong neck PUP in a tele and so far i've been happy with this. Hope all is great.....your friend, dale.
i may take you up on that! We could meet at Guitar Emporium and have plenty of guitars to choose from - thanks for sharing music my friend - keep rockin!
Dale, yes we were indeed lucky! But these are great days too - we still have our music to play and express ourselves. And we are very lucky to have you to share your tremendous wealth of musical knowledge and skill. You remind me of a finely honed golf pro with an immaculate crisp swing, who has paid his dues at the range and by paying all the time, but it's not really work when it's so much fun, is it?
you kind words are very appreciated my friend.....and i agree that these are good days! The resources for pickers have never been better - stay good - talk soon!
Hey Dale, Great lost classic !!. I was very fortunate to see Ace open for Johnny Winter, J. Geils Band, and headlining was Yes at Rich Stadium in Buffalo, N.Y. sometime around 1975 or 76. When they played How long it created such a killer vibe that the whole stadium of 80,000 people were singing the song with the band !! Ya gotta love the 70's.....
that's a great story & i'm sure a great memory as well! Also reminds me that those days i'm afraid are over for the most part - we were lucky weren't we! Thanks for your post my friend,
Thanks, Dale. Incidentally, Paul Carrack is one of the most underrated singer/songwriters -- an absolutely wonderful, soulful voice. His most recent solo albums are stellar.
This is one of the best lessons on youtube! Thanks a million bro. This is one of my favorite tunes and i am extremely happy that you chose to upload it! I like the way your chords are nice and tight. I like the way you teach at a quick pace, nice and clear. Keep 'em comin buddy! Thanks again!

Great chord options. The song almost lends itself to being a crooner type jazz song or maybe even a country song. 70's one hit wonders rule!!

Great lesson. Never thought it would be that easy to play.
I cant wait to play "How Long" to my band members tonight.
Would you consider doing "Youre the biggest part of me" by Ambrosia or Take 6. Great Gospel song. No one has done that yet on you tube.
