I was just curious as to what age you teach this at in America. I cannot believe that it is 12th grade: surely that can only be a few. In England, you could not do well in your year 9 SATs (taken at about age 12) without knowing that.

i went through engineering mathematics later on in life forgetting these simple kind of rules and it didnt help, its good to get back to basics.
