Now they are too self-absorbed and broke to let someone else take it over and release it. Funding is possible because of the demand for this game. There are several large gaming companies with the means and the money to get this out. That sucks.

But I think iD Software should pick the game up and finish it, as they're one of the greatest, or Epic games! too bad that 2001 trailer was fake. A 3D Realms employee admitted that it was sort of a last-minute thing where they made a couple of maps and weapons and made it into a cinematic sequence to keep yanking our chains.
It hasn't been released yet. The gameplay in this video is only like a sneak peek of what it's going to be lick (the beginning part of the video ofcourse). The guy talking is the first and only guy to play the game, other than the developers.
well, it seems from this video that it looks like it is a pretty complete game and should be in its final stages of post production. hopefully, it will come out sometime near the end of 2009 or early 2010 judging by the quality of the game so far (seriously,i 've seen shipped games that looked a lot worse than this game is currently).

I would ask him how long he was playing this game for. 12 minutes is not even close to how long it takes to make a clear assessment of the game's quality. And constantly saying that they are "making something great". They had 13 years to make something great. At some point you have to ship the game, and it's way overdue.
12 minutes? If you listen to the podcast interview this is from, you'll hear him say they had 20-30 minutes of footage of the game. Although that may only be from one level (Hoover Dam according to Broussard) and they only aired the bits that didn't reveal much, because Hall says he didn't want to "expose features".
But that doesn't count the possibility of Jace seeing a presentation by Broussard on the rest of the game like the ones given the people at Shacknews and Computer Gaming Magazine.
Again, 30 minutes is not enough to give a fair assessment of the game's quality. Anyone who plays the game for the first hour or so is going to love it, but after the initial excitement and hype is over, does the game still stand? How long is the game? If it's anything less than 20 hours, it will be a disappointment. How's the multiplayer? Is it just CTF and Deathmatch? You can only gather so much from 30 min of play, that's not enough to say "it's worth the 13 year wait".
Does this look like a game review? Jace said they were "*making* something great" and gushed over the creativity, level of effort & ambitions *going into* the game. He gave us a developer's point of view.
As a former developer and founder of one of the most prestigious studios around, I'd say he's qualified to make those remarks.
His main impression from playing it was how much it took him back to the old Duke and how it's all coming back. He makes it clear that the rest of it is subjective.
I didn't say review. I said ASSESSMENT. We don't know if they are making something great. It could be garbage for all we know. No he isn't because he didn't play the game enough. dude, jace hall is the only guy with experience on this game. He's the only guy who played it, so he's the only guy who actually knows what's going on, so his opinion trumps yours by a lot from a first person encounter. I'm not saying his opinion is true or not (we have no clue yet) but as of right now, he's the guy who can make the most valid opinion (so he probably played for 30 min. still, his opinions are more valid than yours).
Problem is, in the 12 years making this game, they could have released 4 Duke games. The 2001 build was already dated by 2001 standards, but if they just released that, then at least gamers would have had something. No game is worth waiting 13+ years for. The little we've seen of it doesn't say much.

it is definately worth the way, because waht is displayed here is truly epic, it looks fucking GODLIKE, so when it comes out in 2009 we will appreciate the hard work and effort that has gone into the game, to make it special and to give the fans what they want and what they deserve :)
When it's done, we will realize that the time taken to create the game was actually worth it.
Lets hope they use the replacement voice talent for duke, who did the voice acting in Duke Nukem Zero Hour, or Duke Nukem64, rather than the monotone one from Duke Nukem 3D. They sound similar, but the voice from Zero Hour had a more upbeat voice.
I guess the word "replacement" wasnt the best way to put it. John St. John did do all the voice talent, However he had to re-act his lines. Even though Duke Nukem 3D and Duke Nukem 64 are technically the same games, Duke's voice is less monotone in the console version.
John also used a different tone in Duke Nukem Zero Hour. His lines are much more lively and upbeat, and a bit cocky. In my opinion it sounds better and has a reckless attitude.
DN3D probably sounded a bit duller because it was his first outing as Dukes voice, so maybe he refined it? or it was recorded better in later games? maybe due to budget restraints in DN3D?

Keep in mind the game underwent at least three game engine reconstructions, not to mention graphics and physics updates, along with storyline changes.
Gearbox really stepped up on this game, and they're promising another Nukem installment :D
There's no real way to review a game and publish your opinion like it's the way it should be. People look for different things in different games.

The graphics and textures have a very artistic look about them - kind of fuzzy, with heaps of special effects. Looks cool!

too bad that 2001 trailer was fake. A 3D Realms employee admitted that it was sort of a last-minute thing where they made a couple of maps and weapons and made it into a cinematic sequence to keep yanking our chains.

It hasn't been released yet. The gameplay in this video is only like a sneak peek of what it's going to be lick (the beginning part of the video ofcourse). The guy talking is the first and only guy to play the game, other than the developers.

well, it seems from this video that it looks like it is a pretty complete game and should be in its final stages of post production. hopefully, it will come out sometime near the end of 2009 or early 2010 judging by the quality of the game so far (seriously,i 've seen shipped games that looked a lot worse than this game is currently).
remember, though, it's just my speculation. 3d relms has yet to say anything yet. don't take my comment too seriously.

He's gushing way too much over this game too. I would ask him how long he was playing this game for. 12 minutes is not even close to how long it takes to make a clear assessment of the game's quality. And constantly saying that they are "making something great". They had 13 years to make something great. At some point you have to ship the game, and it's way overdue.

12 minutes? If you listen to the podcast interview this is from, you'll hear him say they had 20-30 minutes of footage of the game. Although that may only be from one level (Hoover Dam according to Broussard) and they only aired the bits that didn't reveal much, because Hall says he didn't want to "expose features".
But that doesn't count the possibility of Jace seeing a presentation by Broussard on the rest of the game like the ones given the people at Shacknews and Computer Gaming Magazine.

Again, 30 minutes is not enough to give a fair assessment of the game's quality. Anyone who plays the game for the first hour or so is going to love it, but after the initial excitement and hype is over, does the game still stand? How long is the game? If it's anything less than 20 hours, it will be a disappointment. How's the multiplayer? Is it just CTF and Deathmatch? You can only gather so much from 30 min of play, that's not enough to say "it's worth the 13 year wait".

Does this look like a game review? Jace said they were "*making* something great" and gushed over the creativity, level of effort & ambitions *going into* the game. He gave us a developer's point of view.
As a former developer and founder of one of the most prestigious studios around, I'd say he's qualified to make those remarks.
His main impression from playing it was how much it took him back to the old Duke and how it's all coming back. He makes it clear that the rest of it is subjective.

I didn't say review. I said ASSESSMENT. We don't know if they are making something great. It could be garbage for all we know. No he isn't because he didn't play the game enough. Being a former developer and founder does not make him any more qualified than any other gamer in the world. By that logic, all game reviewers have to also be developers and founders.
The fact is, he IS gushing, and now you are too. It's hype, pure and simple.

He's played it, that puts him in the only available position to judge anything. His unique POV is important as he's commented on developer efforts going into an unfinished game, from behind the scenes. You're a gamer judging by end-product "review" criteria like length & multiplayer, when neither may be finalized nor necessarily make for a fun game.
30 mins of recorded footage doesn't mean he never played or saw more than we know of. Gamers have gushed over playable demos of lesser length.

When he says "It'll be worth the wait" or "You're going to be pleased" then I get to call his statements into question because he's making those statements about a game 13 years in the making. Sorry, but 13 years dev time requires a lot more playtime than 30 minutes to be making those kinds of statements. If it were a 3-4 year dev time, it's a different story. Not this game though. Sorry, but his hype is unfounded. Not for a 13 year old game. You can have your views, but these are mine.

dude, jace hall is the only guy with experience on this game. He's the only guy who played it, so he's the only guy who actually knows what's going on, so his opinion trumps yours by a lot from a first person encounter. I'm not saying his opinion is true or not (we have no clue yet) but as of right now, he's the guy who can make the most valid opinion (so he probably played for 30 min. still, his opinions are more valid than yours).

Problem is, in the 12 years making this game, they could have released 4 Duke games. The 2001 build was already dated by 2001 standards, but if they just released that, then at least gamers would have had something. No game is worth waiting 13+ years for. The little we've seen of it doesn't say much.

it is definately worth the way, because waht is displayed here is truly epic, it looks fucking GODLIKE, so when it comes out in 2009 we will appreciate the hard work and effort that has gone into the game, to make it special and to give the fans what they want and what they deserve :)

When it's done, we will realize that the time taken to create the game was actually worth it.
Lets hope they use the replacement voice talent for duke, who did the voice acting in Duke Nukem Zero Hour, or Duke Nukem64, rather than the monotone one from Duke Nukem 3D. They sound similar, but the voice from Zero Hour had a more upbeat voice.

I guess the word "replacement" wasnt the best way to put it. John St. John did do all the voice talent, However he had to re-act his lines. Even though Duke Nukem 3D and Duke Nukem 64 are technically the same games, Duke's voice is less monotone in the console version.
John also used a different tone in Duke Nukem Zero Hour. His lines are much more lively and upbeat, and a bit cocky. In my opinion it sounds better and has a reckless attitude.

DN3D probably sounded a bit duller because it was his first outing as Dukes voice, so maybe he refined it? or it was recorded better in later games? maybe due to budget restraints in DN3D?
