What is commonly called "flint" in modern times is actually ferrocerium, or "ferro." Theory: it's a flint & steel w fuel. Don't let the fuel dry out and the wick will almost last forever. When short, pull out a little more. But too wet and the wick will take multi-tries to light. In emergency, Coleman fuel (white gas) OK, gasoline will work, but toxic.
The main advantage is the fuel won't evaporate. (Test this) Long term storage; coat ferro w nail polish. Avoid sea water & spray.

@TVHighjacker Actually I just got a tripod mount for my iphone 4 which has manaual focus and HD video off ebay for like 5 bucks so from now on they should be all good
