This is an amazing video. I love the way you interpreted the characters. Your use of the clips is perfect, I could have followed that storyline even without the description, which is definitely saying something.
All in all, you did a great job, and this is one of my new favorite videos.^^
Hey, I know you've been getting a lot of comments about how these two are/aren't gay, so I thought you might like to here this: I love this video. It is amazing. You match the scenes, and you can follow the plot. I especially love the part where it looks like Romeo is saying "done with you." This video is amazing. Ignore what everyone else says: including me. It's only your opinion that counts.
So as concerning Romeo, he is the archetype of the Petrarquian lover, in love with love, no matter who embodies it (well, he was craving for Rosaline and the next morning he dies for Juliet's love... loyal, isn't he ?) and Mercutio is not a clue to be eluded. Even though Shakespeare hasn't formulated it clearly (whereas he'd done for Mercutio's sexual ambiguity) this is a very interessant way to read out both character's chaotic psyhologies. The video is cool, anyway.
About Shakespeare's work, considering a homosexual relationship between R and M isn't at all 'bastardizing' the classic. Many authors and literary critics made a similar reading of Mercutio. He is the character of liminality (as not part of the Capulet nor of the Montague, he dies saying "A plague a both your houses") and homosexuality is precisely an incarnation of liminality.
Who says everything has to be accurate? Maybe this pairing wasn't what Shakespeare had in mind, but are people not allowed to create their own ideas? Can people not imagine something different, or must we obide by the strict confines that are "normality"? Let people imagine as they will, for if they create it, it doesn't mean it is true.
Not really. If you care so much about fighting against the "confines of normality", maybe you should make up your own love story instead of bastardizing a timeless classic.
But this isn't the timeless classic; this is a remake. The timeless classic existed only in Shakespeare's time. For you expect nothing ever to change and adapt? Yes, I could go out and write my own story, and what would that do? The confines of normality have obviously not let me express my ideas in their original intent; for I personally do not support this couple. That does not mean, though, that I can bash it because it is something opposite of what I believe. So stop living in the past.
Excuse me for believing in individuality and creativity. But I guess that not all of us are creative enough to make their own works of art and have to rely on mooching off of others.
Then how do you explain the making of this movie? For it, too, was "mooching off of others." And, if what you say is true, so is every remake, sequel, and book-to-movie; and that covers about half of the movies of today. So do you care to explain why you can bash this one video and not all the directors and actors who so carelessly "mooch" off of ideas everyday?
There is nothing bad about homosexuality, and are you shakespeare? can you tell that he didnt have hidden meanings? Mercutio, i think, was gay, and who says he cant be in love with romeo??? So what if he was? good for him!
yes! Although I don't necessarily like this movie's portrayal of Mercutio, I do like the pairing! I'm so happy to find a video dedicated to thier (rather obvious) chemistry/romance~ ^-^
We had a discussion about this in class. It is heavily implied in the play that Mercutio was indeed in love with Romeo. The speech Mercutio gives in Act II in particular expresses his frustration because of Romeo's interest in girls.
This particular movie plays it up a lot more than others, i.e. the drag ballad. Critics have been making the claim since the play was written. True or not, it's always fun to speculate about Romeo and his best "friend".
wtf

I agree with this video.
It's also true what TheChiniz said... many others have seen this relationship.
I am in fact doing this play and we're using the tension between the two as backstory.
although yes... I AM a girl, but that was part of the directors vision.
The relationship though... is Shakespears.

I'm playing Mercutio in an upcoming production.
We had to do a paper on Romeo and Juliet, and some students wrote about the love affair between the two.
This made my day...
