It was a very good ending as they will be together in the after life i think you see a purple flower at the end with one pedal missing, that flower was poisons. Zwei doesn't die by himself she joins him.

the anime is splitted into like, three parts. what i mean is that the first part, it started amazing. even though i wish that Zwei had long hair in the first part! XD then they skip like, two years.(i hate it when animes do that though the whole atmosphere changes and it isnt the same). in part two Zwei has long hair and he looks extra amazing. then it changes to another time frame where Elen and Reiji live in Japan and it is weird, but still pretty cool it guess.

actually technically a requiem is a song composed/played for someone who is dead, so the ending does make sense for the title in that way. however, i suppose they could have meant it figuratively since it doesn't really say completely that they both died--just that they probably, 98% sure, were dead. And even if they did die, I think it's a beautiful ending that makes up for (in my opinion) the not as great last 6 or so episodes.

@ProMangekyouUser What do you mean by that? You do realize that this is a remake of a PC game also titled Phantom, in the Ein and Reiji ending they both lived so I don't think the title has anything to do with it lol cuz they only died in the anime.

@rjosehv I think Eren just wounded Reiji so she could eat the poisonous flower without him stopping her because she had no reason to live anymore she already knew what she needed to know.The look on Eren's face was to positive for him to die by an assassin other than Eren.She may have shot him so she wouldn't be stopped.And she turned around and smiled to show him he kept his promise.So its time to just let her go.
