James, I am looking for a light-weight plein air setup and wanted to ask if you could send me some information re availability and price. Thank you, demingragot
The palette hanging on the easel is a great solution and the way the easel is weighed down so it doesnt fall over in the wind. I've been painting plein air in Iceland and have to tie my easel down with trings to wooden sticks to the ground. (As can be seen in my videos.) This plastic bag solution is the obvious choice when placing the easel on a hard ground, Thank you James !
@Kristbergur1001 I use a very short bungy cord, open up a tray, wrap cord tightly around the tray so metal hooks grab onto pallete on right and left (hard to explain) someone showed me this and it works fantastic! That palette won't go anywhere, won't even giggle when you mix.
James your video was very informative. I was wonder what is the model of the small tripod you have. Also is the top mount where you would normally attach a camera made of plastic or metal. I currently have tripod setup as well. but my top mount for my tripod is made of plastic so when i attach a canvas on it that has a bit of weight will tend to flex the plastic mount and cause the canvas to wiggle. I notice your canvas wiggles too i wonder if we have the common issue.
Looks good, I'm on the market for a new solution to my plain air gear, I've lugged my half box French easel all over the country, this looks like an affordable solution! thanks!
This is a great demo. Much better to watch someone doing this spontaneously than to watch a scripted demo which leaves all the details out. Nice. I may like to have one of these....I have been looking at all my options. I'll take the pooch, too.
Where are you at, James? Looks like you're near Tucson.
That looks like a nice system you have.
Let me ask, since an artist has to transport the canvas anyway, why don't you make a box that's big enough to carry a good sized canvas and all the equipment too?
Thank you, it does seem to be very popular with many artists. It was made for Plein Air painting, but many aritsts use it in the studio.
Most artist use painting "PANELS" to paint on outdoors and to travel with because they are light weight and much thinner than canvas.. Also the Plein Air painter often has to hike to his painting location, and that is done with a back pack with all his equipment in it. A french easel could be used for larger work.
Any easel will have to be weighted if you are painting in heavy wind. The panel holder is very sturdy and will hold it's own against any other outdoor painting system on the market. This easel is made more for panels 20" and under.
the bee...LOL

Yes the one I showed with the paint in it was special made. Too big and too heavy for most backpacks or suitcases.

the palette on the tripod is the standard..yes...
What is the one you show that has been used...it seems to be huge...obviously this is one of your own, and not one you sell...correct.

The palette looks very good, but the support for the canvas looks jiggly, like you've set up a sail for yourself and it might blow over any second.
