@melgreenhalgh I am not sure about the present, but a few years ago (4-5) I remember seeing Armin's post on one of the art forums and he admitting that he used a grid to draw. He was doing a WIP and the drawing had noticeable grid lines. At present he might be free-handing, am not sure again.

Darell is a good artist but calling him the most realistic artist in the world is not accurate. Check the work of Armin Mersmann, a pencil artist. I personally believe no one comes close to Armin and he work on paper size you nor Darell would never even attempt to draw in. Look him up, he could carry the "most realistic artist" tag better than Darell. Seriously.

hey im a big fan of hyper realism/ photo realistic drawings

but recently i suffered an injury to my wrist, which screwed up my drawing skills, im not in pain anymore when i draw, but it just feels different.. i can't describe it, but i feel i lost something, as i can't draw with that ease as before..

any tips on getting back to where i left off ?

with all the supposedly dangerous things i do (parkour, heavy lifting, aggressive rollerblading) i never got long lasting injures from them.

this just happened around the house, i think i tore a tendon in my wrist.

but i've been practicing a lot, clean controlled lines are getting easier to do,

not as much shaking and stuff

lots have said, that just keep working on it, and i'll get it

i know that whatever happens i won't give up drawing even if i have to draw with my foot!

@xenonnati thats what darrel tank needs at the moment from you, to keep trying. by the way the injery may give you the chance to do something different and better than the non injured artist can do !! it may happenend, may be the tearing will make your line stronger than before. you never know

although its hard not to get frustrated when all of my colleagues tell me i drew better before, and me myself seeing that its not the same..

i mean comparing the scans of last years portraits with post injury ones i can see a pretty big difference..

but regardless i'll do what i can

maybe when i feel comfortable with drawing again, i could post some vids of my drawing exercises.

1: 13 is decent, the rest are a load of crap. they're either too grey, don;t have a distinct light source ( thus the light is all over the place), sketches should be achieved with slow defined pencil and not excessive smudging.. this guy's art looks so generic , there is so feel or characteristic. not to mention some of the drawings look freakishly gross. the best this guy can do is replicate photographs for the rest of his life.

His sketches simply use too much smudging, slow defined pencil strokes are needed to show form through contour lines. It shows real mastery of the medium like da vinci, michaeangelo back in time. every artist is subject to criticism, dont take it personally

for realistic painting i prefer cgsbgs here from youtube, as he can draw photo. Tank's drawings are really good too, but still they still look like drawing to me by looking at them.

cgsbgs paints "virtual" using the pc.. Mr. Tank uses real paper with texture and pencils .. that can be as mat and have the effects as a picture painted virtual.
