@SJamesGray I think that that was Sen. Kerry's point-- no point in throwing troops behind such a government with no prospects on improvement in that government.
Right on, after listening to it again, I see that. I think the fact that Obama is praised for sending all these extra troops over is a testament to the true power of the military industrial complex in American society when even prominent politicans like Kerry are ignored on such wisdom.
apparently Kerry lives in an alternate reality. noone asks the american people if they want to continue war on the planet or not, and havent asked them their opinion in over 100 years.
These people are professional liars. Self serving parasites that offer nothing in the way of progress for our society. The illusion of democracy now is a sick joke and an insult to our intelligence. We need to collectively reject this false system.
"We need to collectively reject this false system."
Amen brother. Divide and conquer is what the 2 party DC mafia system is all about, if you are a gop or dnc loyalist you have been pwned and played like a common sucker.
Why couldn't he have mustered that tone and posture during the 2004 election? I fucking hate it when these guys pull this crap. When they're actually in a position to effect change they pull their punches but when it's a just a soap box and they're not actually defending their seats they occasionally sound reasonable. If they were the least bit consistent maybe they'd get enough votes without the endless pandering and then we could actually make some progress.
So the thug that the Bush and Obama administrations have supported was 're-elected', has his drug-lord brother in his cabinet, and doesn't want to give up the power. And the fact that the US military is supporting this goon is sure to be winning hearts and minds left and right in Afghanistan.
We need to GTFO of Afghanistan and save ourselves the casualties and money.
Kerry's just being a wimpy Dem instead of actually standing for peace.
So once they Afghanis have solved their govt legitimacy problem, THEN it is OK for us to send in more troops? Yuck!
Dang, I was hopping to find an issue that I agreed with Kerry on for once. I assumed he would say that we should bring the troops home soon, not some nuanced hawkish position in which he set himself up for justifying sending in more troops to die in an unwinnable war.
What happened was the neo-cons discredited themselves and left the dems to occupy the new center as defined by some combination of right-wing radio and the regular old corporate media. And that center is one that serves the military industrial complex. When it comes to those dollars in particular I don't think it matters whether there is a D or an R next to a politician's name.
Afghanistan is fucked. We shouldn't work to win, we should work to mitigate damage. That may include sending more troops and/or it may include concessions with the Taliban. In reality it probably means both. Let's just try to avoid an openly US-hostile regime from taking office. Maybe support one of the pragmatic Taliban leaders
Unfotunately Boots it looks like what we anticipated is coming at us like a freight train. It is small comfort to be somewhat prepared but it is preferable to being complicit in this evil monster . Keep your powder dry , this is happening right before our eyes and it is going to be ugly . Good luck, long live freedom.
Really sad to witness most American people are good folk.
Can't say much for the American politicians for the last 100 years. Inept fools...like what good is it dying will billions of dollars. Ya can't take it with you.
Fuck Obama and all the idiots that vote for him, now what's next?????

Good points Sen. Kerry, but "good governance" isn't exactly a term that's been synonymous with Afghanistan throughout post-Mohommedan history.

"Kerry got owned by Bush!" Depending on your definition of 'owned', that might be entirely true, or complete BS.

Didn't they gave him a Nobel Prize of Peace, and now he sending more troops? That makes no sense, but I guess they do want that Osama Bin Laden bad.

He got the Peace prize because he wasn't George W. Bush.
It's too bad he's Barack W. Bush.

They should talke that Peace prize from him. It makes no sense.

Its "irresponsible" creating trillions of dollars out thin air
Counterfeiting money (The Federal Reserve) always ends badly, its the "little people" that take the hit.
They can write to their reps on how dead they are.
Why do American citizens put up with inept, moronic, stupid, dumbass, bag of money shit government.
The US is toast I don't believe you can stop the chaos coming down the pipe.
