Whos the fucktard that did the original translation lol? "Someone has set us up the bomb" were they mentally retarded? (the people that did the translation were probably japanese i assume)
@SergeantLuke "What did you say?!" Is probably the literal translation, but as an exclamation to something you can't believe, "It can't be!" sounds more natural, I guess. Translation is a tricky thing, it depends on more than just poting over the literal meanings (as the infamous version of the Zero Wing translation illustrates).
I don't know anything about Japanese, but based on translators from other sources, wouldn't it be more accurate at 0:47 to add a word like pathetic or meaningless before lives?
Holy cheese, when the Sega logo came up I seriously expected to hear Miku Hatsune going "Seeee-gaaaa!" (...I've been watching way too many Project Diva recordings...)
Captain: God damn. this is like the 3rd time this has happened. ok launch the zigs, find that son of a bitch, and kill him. I'm about to need another new ship.
So THIS is what they really were saying? Holy cow, this means the first translation is probably the worst ever in the history of translations in ANY form of media.
you could argue the accuracy of this all day, but its never going to be 100% accurate and still make sense in both languages, the point is this actually makes sense
Nice job with a more accurate translation, BTW. It's pretty epic.
Also, I want to point something out to those who only followed the meme. Try playing it, if even for just a few minutes. It's actually not that bad a game, but it probably won't appeal to anyone who's not a die-hard SHMUP fan.
For those talking about the "USA" version of Zero Wing, I don't think it actually exists. The official translation actually comes from the Europe version of the game.
I could be wrong, though. Perhaps it was released in North America, but it had to have been a (very) limited release. But so far, research and the lack of USA ROM dumps seems to imply that the game was never officially released in North America.
I dind't use a translator, if that's what you mean. Like I said, this is the translation I found on Wikipedia. Someone must have changed it since I made this video 2 years ago.
apearantly; the one on wikipedia now is slightly different, the engineer says something bout an unknown assiliant has planted explosives or something like that. along with other differences
Yes, I checked it out after your first comment. Thanks for pointing out the difference. I think, though, that the meanings are the same in both versions.
The game went down in history as good game but, i dont think it would have become this famous if the translation was correct.
I wonder if someone will ever remake this game, but than again it would probably just become a crappy rip off. Better leave it as a great piece of gaming history!
woh. how did they fuck up so badly in american vrsion. couldnt they tell all your base is way to short for we have captured all your bases. and im still shocked on how epic this was
yeah but the Official one isnt the REAL one and was made cheeply, the amircans should have tooken more care and should try not to rush out games like they did with this... like they did with the xbox 360.. and Ps3 was let out slowly, notic the link? zero wing Japanese let out nothing wrong same with PS3, Zero wing USA .. failed words and Xbox 360... millions were sent back the same day.
Poor captain... he end just being a bloody scrap of meat, iron and fire... So its seems like a internal sabotage, the guys had those explosives mounted from the very beginning... They send them to die... well, at least the Zig pilots were uber enough to defeat the entire CATS army for themselves.
it works defintely, but you have some interesting changes to the translations that's been given in english, not sure if yours is the original japanese translation, but this don't sound like the english one at all. Some contents have been changed.
Sometimes when a game is translated, they only have so many English letter characters that they can fit. So, they have to adapt the text. Where in Japanese five or six distinct characters make a sentence, it takes several dozen to make one in English.
