  • Battlefield Vietnam!

  • Mr Bean brought me here

  • lets set this straight....chad allen is the original singer of this guess who version....randy backman was the lead gutarist on this recording...cummings was recruited from another local winnipeg band....it was recorded with one mic at a local tv sound studio...first released on quality records....the big difference in this version is the use of the whammy bar ...great tune the peg was one rocnin town in the sixties and seventies

  • In my humble opinion, this is an awesome version that even stands out the original one.

  • Definitely a good version, but Johnny Kidd still rocks better in my opinion :) Just my opinion^^

  • lol eileen jewell!

  • I've heard the Johnny Kidd and the Pirates version but I think I like this version better. It has more fire to it. ;-D

  • @baarbear I agree that the best version is the one by The Guess Who (Chad Allen & The Expressions?). This one beats the sloppy and overrated version by The Who. (I'm a lng-time fan of The Who!) With that said, we must tip our hats to Johnny Kidd & The Pirates because their version is the original.

  • really good version, but i prefer who version is more powerfull

  • the definitive version

  • Who are Johnny Kidd & the Pirates? :)

  • Best version.

  • this vversion just rocks !!!

  • That is (now) one of my 'best' memories Hanging on to a boy at a teen dance, and feel him shaking all over. Ohhhh-la-la!

  • @gblueslover2 Not quite, every band covered this song. Every British bar band covered this song. But the Guess Who nail it and I'm a Who fan.

  • @dbohnenkamper Yes, Burton Cummings is a phenomenal singer, isn't he? I believe this was recorded before Randy Bachman became the lead guitarist for the group. Sadly, the lead guitarist before him committed suicide (that is what is believed).

  • This is a terrific song, and I like this version the best.

However, the clip of Donna Loren singing it on "Shindig!" (also on YouTube) is really great as well.

  • Now this song gives me the nastolgic memories of Vietnam

  • Did they copy the WHO or did the WHO copy them ?

  • @gblueslover2 haha, this song had been around since 1960. The Who did a good version, but at that time they were at least the 4th or 5th band to cover it. It's probably one of the most covered songs in rock history, most recently by Wanda Jackson on her 'comeback' album and by Eilen Jewell, also excellent. It's hard to do it wrong!

  • @almishti Just wondering what the WHO's motivation for doing this song WAS....> Let me guess...> Bceause the Guess WHO did it ? Think about that one for a second...>I'll bet that was one of the driving reason(s).

    Why else ?

  • @gblueslover2 Johnny Kidd & the Pirates who originally recorded this song were a huge influence on Pete Townshend. When The Who were still The Detours, they were support to Johnny Kidd & the Pirates, whose guitar player Mick Green's style inspired Townshend as well as Dr. Feelgood's Wilko Johnson.

  • @gblueslover2 you stupid mf'er! And the democrats support the poor too!

  • @dbohnenkamper If I were stupid, I'd act like YOU. Now here's the main question..>.Do I act like YOU ? lmao

  • @gblueslover2 The song was written by pre Beatles British rocker Johnny Kidd was a UK #1 hit single in 1960 for his band Johnny Kidd & The Pirates. That is the definitive version , if youre British anyway !

Sadly Johnny was killed in a car crash in 1966 aged just 30

Another classic hit rock song he wrote which has been widely covered is Please Dont Touch

  • @gblueslover2 You'll have to GUESS WHO!

  • @bacala777 lol, already found out...

  • @gblueslover2 Damn it....

  • @bacala777 Hey- I LOVE the Guess Who. These guys should have been as big as the Beatles as far as I'm concerned, When you look at their musical accomplishments and history, it's a mind blower...Whew.

    Peace

  • 4 peoples doesn't shaking all over!!!

  • battlefield vietnam!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • (Don't) shoot the piano player ? din din din din din din.......

  • This is so fantastic Brings back memories of KRLA 1110 am. Pasadena California

    Pre Art Laboe KRLA.

    Thank you for this listing.

  • It has just 10 times more of this style if you rush from the stale old record player here has

  • Best version of this song ever.

  • @Tonithenightowl Guess you've never heard Zeppelin rip this one up!

  • all you fans of The Wholater one don't throw rocks, but this song SO ROCKS. by the way what is the instrumwent that sound like a zylaphone

  • Memories of an AM transistor radio...on a night time camping trip...in South Carolina hearing this on some far away station....killer tune.

  • Glad it's back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @lighterinthestorm thats so awesome

  • My 1yr old niece loves dancing to this song. Baby's got good taste in music, lol.

  • Why isn't this song on their "Greatest Hits" cd ???

  • Great song, but the audio quality leaves to be desired, patrikas. No HQ today,I fear.

  • bf vietnam!!!

  • The Guess Who, from Winnipeg, Manitoba!

  • I Heard it the first Time in an Advertisement and I loved it , then I heard it in BF Vietnam , I loved it , then I found out the name of the song and I nearly died of happiness

  • lol, most of us under age 40 first heard this playing Battlefield Vietnam...which is fine, because that means BF:V gave us something other than hours of blowing people up, right?

  • I downloaded this kickass piece to my MP3 and now I listen to it whenever I go on BFVN and blow some S**t up in either a huey or my personal fave, the cobra ;)

  • rules

  • 2 people are epileptic, and did not enjoy the seizures this song inspired

  • GREAT song - like it !!

  • Great cover of the Johnny Kidd classic I think these guys were Canadian .Am i right?superamos31

  • @SuperAmos31 they are CANADIAN

  • First Guess Who song I ever heard at the age of 5 or 6 back in the 60's.

  • This is one of the best rock and roll songs of all time. Fantastic.

  • Awesome song! One of my favorites!!!

  • Excellent cover; comparable to the Who's.

  • @robertschelly you mean the who? in my opinion quite different type of music, but OK.

  • The BEST cover for this! And THANK YOU for posting!

  • The absolute BEST!!! And it's still up here to be heard and enjoyed! Thanks for the great post !!!

  • Thank you so, for posting!

  • A great horny song.

  • is this the burton cummings guess who? what year is this from?

  • @PAULisDEADMANnumber9 Hi:: This is the 1965 version with Randy Bachmann & his brother(later BTO), They did this live exactly like you hear it here. No one had heard of them as Chad Allen & the Expressions, as they were promoted then, Eh(had to get the Canadian in there).

  • @Mikado3962 haha cool, im canadien too.

  • Check out the 1961 cover by Johnny Chester and the Thunderbirds.

  • that's not hi quality:S

  • top cover

  • What a history they have

  • Nice .. Guess Who and the Doors have a lot in common musically speaking

  • The small town rock group I played in from '64 to '65 played this song more than any other, including a lot of the Beatles hits at the time. song's greatness has a lot to do with the wild drum breaks. It was the most requested, brought out the most people to dance. I played as ugly dirty raunchy tenor sax solo to it i could, repeating the best efforts so it ended up being almost the same solo every play.

  • When you move in right up close to me

That's when I get the chills all over me ...

  • this little song is on battle field vietnam

  • Has anybody heard the new version of this by Wanda Jackson ( produced by Jack White ) ? It kicks!

  • Regarding the discussion as to which version was first...well, this is it! The Guess Who had it in the charts in the early 1960's and it was their first hit. I was on the air as a top 40 jock for nearly 20 years and I remember.

  • @drjay1116able The song was originally recorded by Johnny Kidd and the Pirates. It was then covered by Chad Allen and the Expressions. Since American radio stations weren't likely to give a Canadian hit any play, it was released as being recorded by the band 'Guess Who?' The name stuck.

  • cjp2kp That is a fascinating piece of trivia that I'd never heard before. Thanks for sharing it!

  • Bloody hell! Thanks for that! 5 stars, mate, as usual!

  • this is the version I have on 45rpm

  • Faut pas oublier que les Guess Who s'appelait Chad Allan and the Expressions quand ils ont enregistré cette chanson

  • the lyrics are kinda wrong

  • I saw them play last night :D they all signed my shirt

  • Vince Taylor - Shakin' All Over version suck but the guss who made it better

  • i think the guess who are the original

  • No way.

  • I like this. I LOVE The Guess Who. But I think Johnny Kidd & The Pirates' version is definitive.

    Thanks for posting!

  • A masterpiece for it's time-and still is today! This is the very best version, no doubt. It's now gone, but Bachman-Turner had a live version (may have just been Randy B) here that was really nice, also.

  • I just heard it too

  • la meilleure version après celles de VINCE TAYLOR, THE SWINGIN'S BLUE JEANS JEANS

  • love it!!!! :DDD

  • What an awesome lick...

  • I think what makes this so cool sounding is the use of minor chords instead of majors. I also like how the bass changes the riff for the solo section, and of course the Link Wray guitar tone on the lead is killer...

  • Lyrical differences between Johnny Kidd and the Pirates' original version and the Guess Who's remake:

    1. JK: That's when I get the shakes all over me; GW: That's when I get the chills all over me

    2. JK: I got the shakes in the knee bones, shivers down the thigh bones; GW: I got the shakes in my thigh bone, I got the shivers in my knee bone.

  • You are absolutely right!! This is high quality. This is actually one of my favorite Guess Who songs.

  • toppie

  • Great song!!! Just heard it in "Factory Girl" on HBO!!!

  • awesome song. First heard it in Battlefield Vietnam.

  • It is awesome!!!

  • @lighterinthestorm If they'd only played it louder you guys would've won the whole thing.

  • @lighterinthestorm Thought I was the only one! I miss that game and its song intros!

  • great, past 11.000 views

making people happy or doing a good deed has never been easier than now, the internet era. :>

  • Just be careful. Too much attention will attract you know who's attention and something might happen to the video.

  • this is such a cool song

  • johnny kid and the pirates is really excellent, pure rockabilly, the guess who sound good

  • Ok cover but the original by Johnny Kidd & The Pirates is better.

  • i agree moorlock

  • This one is the best. I've heard them all now- including the original. This one is still the best. It hits so hard, it sounds like hearing a freight train roll by.

  • Johnny Kidd may have written it and had the UK hit with it, but the best version of "Shakin' All Over" is this one by The Guess Who.

  • Immitation is the sincerest form of flattery....and this version is GOOD...dammed good. Thanks for posting this one.

  • Burton Cummings wasn't on this one, but Chad Allan's singing and Randy Bachman's guitar make this song ultra cool.

  • I like the Guess who's version, But I like the Sinner's better.

  • i love this song!!

first heard it off the movie

    "factory girl"

and just fell in love with it

  • the guess Who, truly covered the essence of this song..This version has the right amount of wildness and raw power and guitar riffs with guitar amp distortion at the right time..Incredible from start to finish...i dare another group past or present to do a better job than these guys on this song. sorry JK and the pirates you may have created this song but The Guess Who perfected it

  • this rocks

    turn it up!

  • This version is OK to

But still I think The johney kidd&the pirates version is the best

  • Still the best version...

  • A Swedish rockband named Doctors Orders cover is the best one I've heard.

They were called Alibi Ike's when members of Dr Feelgood saw them and said they were on a mission from them.

Thats when they changed name to Doctors Order.

Nothing you find on Youtube, though.

  • if you have it why dont you post it. for all we know it this version probably never existed

  • Maybe there's a world outside Youtube and Internet, or maybe I lied.

    You'll never know.

  • I got to play and sing this song at my gig today!

  • just awesome!!!

  • awesome song

  • Check out The Who's version on "Live at Leeds".

  • Johnny Kidd & The Pirates did the original version...but this is better.

  • I agree. I've heard Johnny Kidd's, Suzi Quatro's, The Who's....a whole bunch of "Shankin'" goin' on. Some are really close(Normie Rowe), but this one really is the best. I'll bet this sounded great live.

  • This is real gear sound I say.

  • people all over the net are tryin to figure out the original band--well-here it is -sissys-i have a cd recorded this way, my guitar will do it right!!
