Being American, I would KILL for the small/supermini car market to EXPLODE in the U.S. I HATE the fact that people drive around in huge S.U.V.'s and large family cars. But I digress; I don't think that the U.S. is ready for that yet, unfortunately. The new Ford Fiesta/Mazda2 is doing okay at best. We should adopt the Italian "Over 2.0 Liter" tax, lol. Watch what would happen then! I'd love a Citroen/Peugeot Saxo/106/306 coupe. A Seat Ibiza or Cupra. A Fiat Punto, or even just the U.K. Focus RS.

wow. you brits had some lousy cars to choose from. Is that nova the same rebadged toyota we got in the us in the 80s? My first vehicle was a mazda 929. tossed for a buick century, then a chevy beretta, then a bronco II, then a 73 AMX all in my first year of driving at 16. I still have that AMX 11 years later as well as a 93c amaro z28. VW Cabby are girls cars. All the girls in 80s movies drove them.

the Vauxhall nova is different than the american Chevrolet nova. the Vauxhall is based on an Opel Corsa, and yes, the chevrolet is based on a toyota

@CamaroAmx 1) In the UK, your not allowed to drive until your 17. 2) Vauxhall built the nova. Where as you car is just a rebadged Toyota. 3) insurance her for a 17 year old is VERY VERY expensive. 4) we don't drive big V6's and V8's that return 3 mpg because were smart. 5) V6's and V8's and mainly the reserve of the rich, as they are very expensive to run and maintain.

@RedRoosterRoad in some states its 16 others 17 and others 18. i wonder why an older car is more expensive to insure in the uk? you'd think cause its worth less and is cheaper to fix. my 93 camaro v8 gets 26mpg so gas isn't a big expense. my insurance is around a $800 a year.

Insurance is a bet. They are betting that your group (demographic, car type) over all will make them a profit. IOW, that your group will pay more than they will have to pay out.

If they have to pay out a lot because of your group, your rates will be higher. You can drive whatever you like, but it could effect which group you would fall under.

An old, safe driver in a Prius is probably gonna pay less than a teen in a Veyron.

Well I had to drive the 205 and the Corsa (sorry, Nova for you all), as my first two cars, but the Cors.. ehr Nova was better than the 205... partly because i made it faster by putting a bigger engine in it...

ha i love the prices in this! you can get unos for £50, I always thought 205s were one of the most sturdy pugs built, and they handled well. Novas, dont see all that many these days, i think most of em either rusted through or were stolen and burnt out. A saab 99 would be pennies, a 2001 saab 95 will only cost you £1k. Best 1st car these days is the skoda fabia, unrivalled value for a very modern and superbly engineered car with lowest insurance prices.
