Is there another way to block afghans? I'm working on my first large blanket and its going to 6-8 feet. I dont have a steamer or anywhere large enough to pin it down
@Eldunari98 You can dampen it and lay it out flat to dry on a large table or on your bed. See the video called 'Prairie Star afghan finishing and blocking.'
Thank you very much for your videos. You make awesome projects and i follow along easily. Thank you very much and i look forward to future projects from you!! Thank you ;)
@tellez41 For acrylic yarn, you can put it in the washer and dryer, then remove it from the dryer just before it's dry and pin it out. For other materials, you can use an Iron with a steam button. Just keep water handy so you can re-fill it. And DO NOT press down on the piece with the iron. hover over it. Always check the yarn label for care. I've seen people soak cotton in water and roll it up in a towel , then pin it out and leave it dry completely.
@Sillykds95 Withe the steamer it dries rather quickly. It was and hour or so when I picked it up. Different fiber take different amounts of time to dry.Just be sure it is completely dry when you pick it up.
I'm making 1 of those but some of my squares ended up bigger , I don't know what i did wrong .Can't seem to figure it out . i really don't want to rip out everything i did .
@ardana777 After each square count the vertical bars and see if you have 5 rows. I had six rows on some of mine on my first afghan I did with this pattern. If the difference is not too off, you can fudge it when you block it.
Is there a way to do this for something smaller (like a scarf) if you don't have a steamer or iron? I also don't have an iron.

@Tazzie1312 I answered this in previous posts. Dampen it and roll it in a towel. lay it out flat and pin it in place. allow to dry.

why do you block it?
ashenzues 2 months ago
@ashenzues Blocking makes the finished piece lay flat, be in the right shape and for acrylic yarn the steam softens the yarn.

@Bethintx1 after it is washed and dried will it still hold the shape from blocking it

What happens if I dont have a steamer? Can I use a iron? or can I just put the blanket in cold water, pin it, nd just wait for it to dry?

What happens if you pin it wrong?

@Sillykds95 Before steaming check and make sure it's pinned right. Once blocked, there is no going back.

Do u wait a day or so after u block it? Or can u get up and go with it?
