@MadSpectro7 Actually, Paul played the lead fills on a Fender Esquire. You can see some decent pix of him during the Pepper sessions if you search Google images for mccartney fender esquire.
@privettricker I'd like to reccommend a really excellent book you may or may not already have Privettricker..Its called "Beatles Gear" and its by Andy Babiuk (a member of the Chesterfield Kings)..Its one of my fav Beatles Books..It goes into detail about every single instrument they ever used..Also check out The Beatles Recording Sessions" by Mark Lewisohn..I'm just going by memory here but I think Macca also played some Rythym and Lead parts on an Epiphone Casino during the Pepper sessions
@smasherhits Yes, I have both those books (and dozens of other Beatles books!). I know Andy Babiuk from my days buying axes at the House of Guitars in Rochester, NY. He was one of the floor salesman (and maybe he still is, I haven't been there for a few years).
@TeamMastaPr2 Paul very likely did play the bass on it (used the Rick for the entire album, I think), but general consensus is he also overdubbed the lead fills. It sounds much more like Paul's vibrato than George's. And no offense to George, but I think Paul rocked a lot harder on guitar than George. I have a hard time imagining George playing that section that starts at :54.
@privettricker not me, it's easily played with chords, he could do that while he sang, but it could be overdubbed as well, but it doesn't mean that Paul played it, but what did George play if Paul played it?
@TeamMastaPr2 George is playing the rhythm part with all those bends and 7th chords. That's very typical George playing from the period. I'm pretty sure the lead fills are overdubbed, as the bootleg of that track has no leakage at all from any other instruments or a vocal. George isn't featured at all on much of the Pepper album.
@TeamMastaPr2 I'm wondering if he played anything at all on that session (unless there's a second rhythm part mixed pretty low). It wasn't uncommon during that period for any one of them to sit out.
@privettricker actually he was he played lead guitar on the splhcb reprise getting better fixing a hole with a little help and shared the lead with paul on good morning so i guess he was kind off featured on the lp pretty often
@TheMasterofnothing13 Sorry, I meant in terms of guitar solos. He's kind of in the background compared to the albums right before and right after Pepper. Off the top of my head, I think Fixing a Hole is the only real solo he played on the album.
@privettricker ya there was only 2 solos on all of the album good morning by paul an fixing a hole by george. and another thing the lead guitar on the record sound like an sg and george had the only one in the band so still think it might be george on lead guitar despite all the vibratos that pauls famous 4
@privettricker Paul is doing the lead fills. George Martin has written a book devoted to the creation of the Sgt. Pepper album. In the book, Martin explains that Harrison had already laid down very nicely constructed lead fills, only to have Paul reject them in order to do them himself. This pissed off Harrison to say the least.
@hofner96 I think it's the Esquire. If you do a google images search for paul mccartney esquire sgt. pepper, I think that first black and white shot is from this session. The tone has an awful lot of bite, sounds a lot more like a single pickup Esquire than the warmer tone of the Epiphone. If you hear the bootleg that's just the isolated lead guitar track (you can find it on YouTube), you really hear the high-end tone.
Another great show. I guess the boys took out their Strats for that one.
I have a request. I know you have done most of Live at Leeds, but you are missing my favorite cut: Shakin All Over. Maximum RB/controlled madness. I would love to see you try your hand at that. Oh, and please use the SG. I know that yours has the humbuckers, but it is still the most appropriate guitar.
@1971SuperLead To be honest, I didn't even know there were devices like that. I just play what I hear, which means if I hear it wrong, I play it wrong. :)
@privettricker Oh, you would love some kind of vocal eliminator. A lot of cheapo home karaoke machines are awesome to learn from. But go to the music store and see what they have. I use an old Chop Shop which loops and repeats any section of a song. Slows them down to 3/4 1/2 or 1/4 speed without effecting the pitch, eliminates vocals and adjusts frequencies to make the guitar stand out. A great toy but there are a lot better machines out there now for learning songs by ear.
@privettricker Ya, I remember the first time I used my Chop Shop and heard War Pigs with no bass, vocals or drums.....I was like "Oh ya, this is so much easier!" Then I learned I could slow it all down and loop the hard parts and just hear them 30 times over in minute until I nailed them. I paid $20 for my Chop Shop brand new, but they have much better units today.
@privettricker DUDE! You're a freakin genius! You mean to say that you don't know where you're tuned and it just happened to fit the song perfectly?! YOU=AWESOME! :)
@privettricker WOW, that is so cool!!! ya learn sumthin new every day!!! i knew paul played acoustic on alot of beatles stuff, but never lead guitar, thanks
@jroxx11211 Paul played lead on a bunch of stuff: Taxman, Good Morning Good Morning (which has a solo almost identical to Taxman), Sgt. Pepper, Another Girl, 1/3 of The End solos....
@privettricker Taxman was on his 'new' casino! (maybe the others as well). Paul is an excellent lead guitarist (different style to George, not necessarily better) - after all that's what he was until Stu Sutcliffe left. Thanks for the vids.
Did you use tab to learn this, or work it out yourself? If tab, where can I find it? If you worked it out, you are even more awesome.

@privettricker I just checked wikipedia for a moment, this is what it says:
Paul McCartney - lead vocals (verse and refrain), bass, lead guitar
John Lennon - lead vocals (bridge), harmony vocal
George Harrison - harmony vocal, guitar
Ringo Starr - drums
Session musicians - French horns
Looks like you got right.

@TheMicasa99 Yes, because the reprise track was recorded without overdubs (except the vocals). So Paul was on bass on the reprise.
