As a great fan of Cruyff, I have to say this video highlights his one weakness, which is revealed in sharp contrast with Platini. Platini, like George Best and several South Americans, was at one with the ball... like a boxer with his gloves, an artist with his paintbrush. Cruyff on the other hand enjoys no such intimacy with the ball. His relationship with the ball is like that of a golfer or snooker player. Its a cold, curious relationship. Just an observation.
Cruijff has the better skills and insight, Credits to Platini though, he was a marvellous, elegant and intelligent player, a pleasure to see him play!

Cruyff is more memorable though, particulalry his dribbling skills and I would pick him before Platini, albeit that they played different roles. cruyff won the player of the yr for 3 consecutive yr, best record in footbal so far. but people dont understand that in todays game, defenders are far more superior than bck then due to the imformation and traing dey recieve these day. cruyff wud not have the same succes if he was to play todays game. i believe lionel messi will go down as the greatest player of all time. if he win world player of 2010, wich is highly likely after 47 goals, he will have won for 2 consecutive yr. only 22 yrs old

By the way WC 74 Cruijff was amazing and made his team better too. BEST TEAM EVER ON WC Holland . Lost in final against the Germans, but they where a bit lucky. Holland had to win that, hands down.
Platini was a great player , but really he is not in the same league as Cruijff.

Cruyff and Platini are both maginificent players, obviously. Cruyff is more memorable though, particulalry his dribbling skills and I would pick him before Platini, albeit that they played different roles. You guys should watch the best of George Best on Youtube, though -- his highlights make Platini in particular look like small beer.

Cruyff looks amazing with the ball at his feet. I have to feel he is the best winger to date. IMHO he is better than Messi. Almost all the tricks Messi does is by Cruyff anyway.

Platini is one of Europe's best players ever. Cruijff is (together with Maradona and Pele) one of the world's best ever.
Pele was special for his strength, his rich career and big amound of (important) goals. Maradona for his great technique (also in important games). Maybe Messi will follow him. Cruijff was COMPLETE. He was the director AND he was fast, perfectly skilled and.. just genious in how he saw things. Even as coach btw. For the young guys: watch the movie "14" and you will know..

Cruyff was brilliant, the best of his time, but Platini could do much more things on the pitch, he could score he could pass, he could everything, he was more complete as a player than Johan. Nevertheless, in my opinion they are the 2 best european players of all time.

What Cruyff did in his time was almost not possible, he was everywhere in the field. He could read the whole game, he was very good dribbler, passing and striker. He was really the best. Platini was also very good but you cannot compare him with Cruyff.

I guess it is human nature to rank everything. To me, players with such skills and influence in the game and outside the game cannot be ranked.
What I see is that Platini had an overall better career than Cruyff (and most of the other legends)

You are dead wrong, probably too young to remember, but Platini's vision (resd) of the game was the best ever. Skills? I saw Cruyff do crazy stuff. I am not like you and other fanatics. I give respect. After Pele, there are the two and Beckenbauer, and as far as Maradona is concerned, make your own call. The "hand of God", for me, was like Zidane's head-butt. A defining, legacy killing moment. Platini could run for mayor in Turin. And win. He was that big. "Anyone who knows about F knows that".

Both were great. Tough, impossible to compare. Platini was the best scorer in the calcio beating Zico, Maradona, Rummenigge for three years in a row. From 1982 thru 1986, he was the best in the world. Afer that, it's a matter of taste and memories. My list, for what it's worth: 1. Pele 2. Platini 3. Cruyff 4. Gerd Muller 5. Maradona 6. Zico 7. Beckenbauer 8. Keegan 9. Zidane 10. Baggio.
