In Texas, you can hunt with primitive tool like this, just non-game animals only, like pests. non endangered species, at least that's how it reads. No permits ness. But even with a permit your not allowed to primitive hunt deer or any other game animal with a spear, or such.

I saw a man get pierced with one of these things. The atlatl is way more powerful that many bows out there. In the hands of a person with a lot of skill, they can be deadly accurate, almost as accurate as a bow. My friends and I use them to hunt. (The permit was ridiculous to obtain)

@dshaff001 Have u taken any deer? They are deadly fore sure! People are so stupid now days they think they don't work, I make mine for free! I use river cane which grows wild here, with goose fletching, and a pine thrower, I want to take a deer, I came really close! good luck let me know if you take a pig or deer!
