  • Clapton is God, he looks stoned on this clip :-)

  • Okay, so here is the deal. If all of these guys were Mayer's age he would no doubt hold his one . Mayer knows just as well as anybody that these guys are way beyond him. Buddy Guy is the greatest guitarist of all time, Clapton agrees. People that say Hendrix was the best just forget how young he died. Vai, Clapton, Guy, Paige, Emmanuel have all surpassed him in skill (if he would have lived past thirty it would have been different). Mayer has chops, and Clapton likes playing with him a lot!

  • @zachaument

with the exception of steve vai i don't think Hendix has been surpassed in skill. I have still to see any one of the above pull of an amazing and original improvisation like Hendrix when he cuts lose. His woodstock improvisation of the star spangled banner is still unsurpassed in terms of creativity, artistic expression, technique and control of the guitar. Hendrix has given us some of the best guitar playing ever (and that holds still to this day).

  • @1stHokageSama I could agree with you if I was holding creativity as the highest form of artistic expression. I hold that as one facet of true talent. While he may be the most innovative guitarist ever that does not make him the greatest. I can agree with you on every point of your last post, but it doesn't prove he is the greatest, only that he was the most innovative. I would actually put him and Vai at the bottom of the short list for overall skill, while they would dominate creativity.

  • shut about John Mayer....men are talking

  • Eric was showing off a lot in the eighties, and that ain't bad.

  • How to smile for 6.35 minutes. by Buddy Guy

  • Get down!!!!!!! These two guys have been friends for a long time. When Clapton is in Chicago he makes it his business to sneak in to Buddy Guys Club.......They can really jam................................

  • I came

  • Buddy Guy are looks like Chuck Berry , This video is wondeful is the old times of they life , today they are more pop.

  • cocaine is a hellova drug

  • oh and of course chuck norris is a wicked guitar playa. i knew that

  • oh and of couse chuck norris is a wicked guitar playa. i knew that

  • Mayer is a hack

  • Buddy Guy is a living legend, yet, at ninety he produced the nasty guitar solo at a 1.25. These two are either high, or now taking inspiration from John Mayer.

  • Why is John Mayer even being mentioned under this video....he's not even in it. John Mayer is a fucking douche bag and he looks like a complete homo in that one video where he's jamming with Buddy Guy. Good for you John...you can outplay some of the blues greats that are almost ready to be enrolled in the nursing home. Go ahead and give yourself a pat on the back...by the way if you've ever heard any of John Mayer's original material it all sucks and its boring.

  • 1000 times better than the g3 (which is in my opinion a fingermuscles show )

  • Can't hear buddies gtar :(

  • GRANDISSIMO VIDEO STORICOOOOOOO

    BELLISSIMOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • One of those unfortunate incidents where the band is having the best time of their lives but the audience is asleep on their hand. What a backwards world we live in.

  • clapton in his element and loving every second of it.

  • Are you sure this is Chicago not London?

  • Ha the first thing I noticed when I was the thumbnail is Clapton's resemblance to Chuck Norris xD

  • he does not look like Chuck Norris , Norris looks like him

  • Clapton is one of the most Boring and predictable players of all time,im still waiting for him to wow me,it hasnt happened yet,Moore,Beck,Hendrix,Blackmoore,Trower, are on another level than this, yaawwwn!

  • @evelskunny Beck, Blackmore or Trower aren't as good as Clapton or Buddy Guy. Hendrix was the man.

  • @evelskunny tooooneekinggggg

  • i use to play this song 7 nights a week in hull across the bridge from ottawa and we use to cook on this song the band wasnt as good as these guys but i did the best i could to train them i use to try and sing this and act like buddy anyways i use to tear that guitar up anyways i know a guy that use to know eric clapton and was his sound man least that what he told me anyways at this same time i was playing this every night and i swear eric must have it on tape cause some of those riffs are mine

  • @Rolandvids nice, I live in Ottawa/Hull, where did you play?

  • chaka chaka pure energy

  • i bet the drummer was like... "what the hell is up with this whiteboy? hes got his shirt all tucked in and stuff" haha jk eric is the man :P

  • well said!!! @mickjamm

  • Clapton's playing was so dope at this time.

  • i wana learn what Eric did at 4:48 to 4:55

  • @logen99999 it's not that hard... but you probably won't be able to make is sound as sick as clapton does :P

  • Don't you see? Chuck Norris can do anything! Even play guitar! XD

  • Clapton is a heavy alcoholic at this point in his life. Great player tho

  • I agree John Mayer is a punk, but that's not to say I don't believe he's a great player

  • yeah J mayer sucks..

  • john mayer is a punk

  • He is ''fasthand'' here :),

  • i didnt know Chuck Norris and Chuck Berry played blues together

  • Buddy Guy is too cool

  • Eric wasnt really being "slowhand" in this one. lol. I even saw a little shred.

  • less is more clapton ..ffs asked bb if you need help lol, besides ure out of tune

  • somethin g s wrong with the guitar

  • buddy guy was one crazy mofo back then

  • Does anynone know the name of the song they are palying?

  • Comment removed

  • This whole set was so wildly improvised that it's difficult to say what any one song actually is. Being the crazy mofo that he is, Buddy just kept mixing loads of assorted songs into one (while Eric just stood there happily jamming along to whatever Buddy felt like singing).

This one is mostly a cover of Muddy Waters' epic 'I just want to make love to you', but the part featuring the solo became known as the 'chicken head jam' (because of the way Eric keeps bobbing his head).

  • @jahmerican876 its Jam .... no name of the song. just playing ... does it neeed to have a name??? good music dont have name :P, actually it has.. and its called - Music.

  • @Thoughtland I'd love to see you try!

  • oh sh_t these tones are so powerfull...!

  • Comment removed

  • Buddy is his nickname. George is his real name. I knew his younger brother Phil. He was a gifted guitarist as well. Very cool guy.

  • I'd love to see Buddy Guy and Prince in a jam session together...I don't think anyone can touch Buddy on the guitar, except for Mr. B. B. King.

  • what's the song tittle ?

  • can't wait to see them both in my home town

  • have you ever heard about a guy called jimi hendrix, or another called Clapton? :)

  • john mayer is a beast but he also steals from them a ton. ill admit that even though im like the biggest mayer fan out there

  • I agree he steals a lot... and i don't think he's the best it was just a lame comment on a lame discussion... i don't think you can argue who's the best... it's a question of taste

  • he steals a lot but he is also really talented with his own style. i love his playing. he's amazing

  • jajajajaajaa no le sonaba la guitarra a budy

  • @Jared2324 im not trying to start a stink, but, what exactly does John steal from them? I dont know? I think steal might be the wrong word. When Mayer plays blues he wears his influences on his sleeve and its pretty clear who they are. However, I wouldnt call having influences stealing. know what I mean?

  • @Jared2324 listen to prince.... he kills john mayer on the guitar......

  • LOL

  • If anyone has any authentic memorabilia from these shows which they'd be prepared to sell, please contact me. Preferably a concert poster.

  • Buddy is named such! He makes everyone who plays with him feel so good. You can see it in the faces of everyone he jams with. What a wonderful showman and a wonderful spirit in the Blues. I have yet to see a Buddy Guy performance without smiles everywhere. He just makes you feel like you're his "buddy!"

  • Was Buddy even plugged in???

It woulda been real nice to hear what he was playing....

  • Im guessing Dr. Rockso is supplyin' backstage.... still the best shit ever

  • ahahah, yes he looks like Chuck Norris:)))

  • more like homer simpson with hair.... Don'tcha think?

  • @milkotaskov he plays like him too but not too much like him for obvious reasons !

  • i got to see Buddy Guy a few years ago. he played at our fair Mid State Fair. was awsome.

  • yeah Buddy endorsed Guild guitars for a while....loved seein him with a Starfire 4 man. I have one so it fill me with pride when I see pics of him playin his

  • Dr. House playing guitar!

  • it was first buddy guitar? i didnt' know. but... there are some videos of 1970's and Buddy is playing a Gibson. lol.

  • eric clapton

  • Mr. Clapton looks like Chuck Norris :D

  • Pause it at 9 seconds in, clapton looks exactly like tom green!

  • sorry if this is a stupid question, but is this a actual song or just a jam?

  • 'Twas a song: It's a badass cover of a popular chumbawamba song, tubthumping.

  • lmao!

  • On fucking fire!

  • buddys first guitar there is a guild

  • Comment removed

  • Buddy looks like he mighta had a pocket rocket or 2... LOL

  • Budy Guy shaved his head, now he looks like a front porch player from the fields.

  • EC IS ON FIRE!!!!!!

  • Since when were Buddy Guy's initials EC?

    :P

  • since eric clapton was there :p

  • Clapton w/his Fender-Lace sensor pick-ups...looks so, new age next to buddy. Passing of the torch, I guess.

  • Can anyone make out those lryics?

  • Comment removed

  • they are on something...o shit haha

  • Did his guitar break or is he just switching?

  • He didn't break it, it fucked him over, some prob with the amp. Thats why Clapton laughs like at 2:00

  • I could barley hear buddy??

  • His guitar fucked up half way

  • stop comparing fucktards. look at 1:50, they're jamming together and do not compete

  • I agree. Two great artists. Why not just enjoy the show. Who cares who is "better"?

  • Ive got the audio from when Buddy and SRV played here(Legends). Too bad there is not a video for that, at least not to my knowledge. Good stuff. 5*

  • Comment removed

  • Looks like Buddy Guys Legends to me! Isn't it??

  • not really - it was - late 80s. Says "October 6, 1987 at Ronnie Scott's Club Chicago"

  • ronnies club is in london

  • its to bad you cant hear buddys guitar at the start

  • hey, that boy Clapton ain't no pussy.

  • Eric was just getting sober from the drink .. It showed in his playing ! The man was incredible and in total control !

  • when buddy takes his other guitar out he looks at clapton like goddamn i got a other guitar now its on bitch :P

  • EC took this one over...buddy guy is coked out of his mind!

  • buddy never got into thoes drugs buddy, theres a few interviews how he talks about it

  • always a joy to hear great musicians playing together

always a bore to read dumb ass coments from people

talking comparisons - influences - greatest this greatest that

    DIG THE MUSIC DONKEYS.

  • @mickjamm WHY DONT U PLAY THEN JELOUS

  • Fact: One of the biggest influences for SRV, Clapton, and Hendrix was Buddy Guy! That's a fact!

  • You would all be wrong on Clapton..his primary influence was both Buddy Guy and Otis Rush. EC emulated both Rush's playing as well as his vocal stylings.

  • You people crack me up when you say this guy is the "greatest" this or that guy "invented" that! Please do just a little bit of research!

  • Hey Blooz, my brother, Buddy used to play

Guild guitars! Here he is playing a hollow body Guild at the beginning, then he switched to a solid body PRS!

Bless you for the nice videos!

  • my last comment was directed at Wharfrat89

to quote Frank Zappa; most people wouldn't know good music if it came up and bit them on the ass.

  • about your clip info, Ronnie Scott's was in London

  • Of course you are correct. I must have been thinking about Buddy's Legends in ChiTown when I typed it.

  • Happens to me all the time, the original Legends will be closed forever VERY soon, so if you've never had a chance to visit, don't wait too long! Peace bro!

  • ha just sent the same comment to him lol gr8 minds think alike :-)

  • no fender strat!!!!!!fender strat!!! f@#k gibson im a blues guy and i play a strat its the only way o get that sound just ask jimmi hendrix, steveie ray, robert cray, clapton buddy

  • i'm sorry, but you cant beat the sound of a 335

  • Buddy never played a 335. His guitar is a Gretsch. Buddy and Eric were both given one and Buddy played a hole right thru his. take care!

  • I know, I'm just saying 335s are better in general for blues

  • Comment removed

  • F@#K fender, I'm a bluesman too and I play a Les Paul style guitar, Albert Collins plays a Tele, Albert Kng plays a flying V, and BB King plays a gibson. Blues is blues, the guitar is nothing, it's all in the fingers and soul!

  • @bnapoleonc123 It is brand loyalty, like if one of us drove a Ford and another a Chevy. Don;t you think it childish to curse a guitar? Clapton started with an accoustcal before he ever got a Gibson. Then he saw the light and now mainly plays a Fender, He still breaks out the Gibby, but is too intelligent to judge another player by his choice of guitar. The music is the single most important thing if you have any class.

  • @klotzstang it is, but If I recall correctly that rather over the top comment of mine was made in relation to somebody claiming that you could only play blues on a fender guitar, which is untrue, and as i said later in the comment the guitar is nothing, its the soul, and as you say the music, so i think that we are in agreement.

  • @bnapoleonc123 also my apologies to any fnder players to whom my ill-considered off the cuff remark caused offence, I have nothing against fender instruments, merely find it very annoying when people assume that you have to have a certain guitar/guitar brand to play blues with, as many of the great blues players have used gibsons, telecasters, acoutcis, home made instruments (e.g. Bo Diddley) etc.

  • Well spoken!

  • i love eric clapton to death, but i wish he would play gibsons again.

  • I think he has a contract with Fender. He gets royalties off of every one of his Fender signature models they sell.

  • sober or not, Clapton could play rings around just about anybody. I have seen him play live with Buddy, and he was very deferential and backed off completely. Also seen him play more aggressively with Guy, like this. He did have a bad spell in the 70s-80s, relying on a 2nd guitarist to play most of the leads, like George Terry or Albert Lee.

  • Stuporsession Clapton could not play rings around Stevie Ray Vaughn...

  • uh, no. SRV mostly influenced by T bone walker and Albert king. Clapton mostly by Freddie King/Buddy Guy. Clapton also has played blues quite a few years longer than SRV did and can do it all; from Lohn Lee Hooker shuffles to EVH shreds. You need to do a little more research

  • and stupo you need to just shut the fuck up because it doesnt matter who he was influenced by..which i already knew...i just said that SRV was better.

  • If you stoop to profanity, then you are stupider than I originally thought. you offer no proof to back up your ridiculous claim.

    Clapton invented blues-rock in 1966

SRV was a blues player who did some Jimi covers.

Now get a new bottle of hand lotion and go back to mom's basement

  • Blues rock?? Rock is the blues.

  • bro, if you don't think srv was influenced by buudy guy you need to do some more research, but it sounds like your to busy swinging from clapton's balls. you're right about clapton being more diverse because srv was strait blues, because thats what he loved, and to call srv a bluesman that did jimi covers is spitting in srv's face, don't forget your talking about the greatest blues musician ever. you are the one that is showing your stupidity. Go listen to texas flood and learn something.

  • Reading thes comments - are you mad? Clapton wasn't doing drugs in 87. Still drinking yes. This was filmed for south bank show on EC. So course he's taking majority of playing/volume. Has anyone witnessed the whole gig??? And those who say ec sucks, course you can all play better. Guy and EC top friends, just having fun.

  • Yes, I have the whole gig on video. Great show. These 2 guys bring out the best in each other every time they play together - mutual admiration...I have seen Buddy take the lead and EC take a back seat many times.

    JR (poster of the video)

  • man id love to see worried life blues clapton sings it init chuck berry.

    joe ps great post

  • damn dude this video is old... great performance

  • Hi JR just wondering where you got the whole video, I have the BBC Eric Clapton documentary on VHS unfortunately the tape is shot. I have seen this on a few trading websites but i dont have any rare stuff to trade lol, does your video have the whole version of worried life blues?

    Cheers

    Brett

  • EC laughs because he is ENJOYING himself-why interpret it as a negative? Yeah-he was wasted and why is it that musicians always play better when they are stoned?? Proud? I would think that he deserves to be.

  • erics guitar was too loud and buddy's was too quiet, i would i have turned my amp up if it wasnt for clapton.

too much pride, look at him laugh.

  • I'm pretty sure he's laughing because he enjoys his playing. Whenever I hear another geetar player's kick ass playing, I usually laugh.

  • i think buddy's guitar was messed up and after not that loud. he didnt get his share

  • " clapton still has more soul than almost anyone on the planet " You know (almost) everybody on this planet? Congratulations.

  • clapton is high on coke i think lol

  • Actually, no. In 1987, he had pretty much cleaned up his act of drugs and alcohol, BUT he had occasion to fall off the wagon - and THIS one of them. He and Buddy were being "bad" on this nite, and boy-oh-boy were they good! Eric and Buddy were pretty drunk, but I doubt seriously that Eric did lines that night. Within a year's time of this video, Eric had completely cleaned-up his act of drugs and alcohol, the latter more difficult.

(ps. EC played very-very well drunk-as-a-skunk, IMHO).

  • clapton dut gibi sarhoş ama bence çok iyi ve farklı bir performans göstermiş. lace sensor lü manyetiklerle , sanki les paul çalar gibi asılıyor.

  • Now EC gives Buddy a chance, but something is wrong with his guitar. They both had a laugh over that. EC and Buddy friends, just fooling around, come on this is small club, not MSG

  • So maybe this isn't perfect, but I guess back then you could have this or a bunch of synthesizer crap (actually I"m surprised clapton didn't jump out with a synthesizer somehow)

  • I don't know, Buddy guy may be one of the best or the greatest living guitarist, but lets all be honest with ourselves: Eric Clapton has lost his touch. Coming from a guitarist's point of view, though speaking only for myself, it's as if Clapton doesnt even feel it anymore.

  • i agree clapton has lost something but i dont think its feeling at all. clapton still has more soul than almost anyone on the planet. hes admited though that he isnt as good as he used to be

  • These two are great, great friends and you can imagine that if Buddy stepped up EC would have stood down. And I hope they were both pissed.

  • i echo that comment - well said broadpath!

  • Some real dumbass comments! EC & Buddy are the 2 best living guitarists and this extract shows EC taking centre stage while Buddy enjoys, just like EC often does when Buddy goes for it e.g. the RAH blues nights...so enjoy and stop bitchin!

  • Clapton looks off his face - either pissed or on drugs. It's a shame buddy's guitar wasn't louder too.

  • I second the clapton comment.

  • Buddy Guy doesn';t seem to get much of a chance to play at all. Usually I really like Clapton, but I thought this was kinda lacking feeling, great technique as always, and some nice shredding, but not as much feeling I thought than he usually has. IO think he kinda hogged the thing too.

  • uh what is supposed to be exceptionnal? EC sucks as usual & Buddy don't really play...

  • Clapton is a monster here

  • michael ...you don't know anything about music and life!!!

  • micheal do u know how to play the gutair

  • forreal

bitch ass dude needs to get some sense of timing, bend those notes in tune, and TURN THE FUCK DOWN WHEN HES NOT SOLOING

  • hmm...unless you make more money than Eric Clapton at playing the guitar, maybe you should consider shutting up

  • clapton sucks

  • NO you suck

You're NOTHING compared to him, just a little jealous boy
