  • Thanks for the video.... I am going to be doing this in a few weeks and it cleared up whether or not it would work with a 4r70w

  • can you show a vid on how you put the c4 connectionon it i have a mach 1 and i have no idea on how to put it can you pleas reply?

  • i have a 01 monte ss. can it owrk on that?? please answer

  • the nice thing about ratchet shifters is if you're just cruisin around and you dont want to shift, you dont have to. and if you're racin, you can

  • so if overdrive is on and you shift into drive from 2nd it will shift into either 3rd or 4th depending on if you give it gas or not?

  • @willpw314 hahahahaha.....yes

  • hey thanks for posthing this video i had no idea how to work the shifter i always wanted one but i bought a used one and i thought it was broken then i found out how to use it when i saw your video so thanks alot shifter works bad ass big difference, hey quick question dont know to much about transmision but how do know if you got a manual valve body is that something u install urself or a transmision option

  • The ratchet shifters are a pain for a daily driver. They certainly look better tho. I am getting one because the stock shifter looks like a dildo with elephantitus. They also keep you from accidentally shifting into an unwanted gear... which shit happens so...

  • its was cool at first. then he over explained it . thats when got confused. pain in the ass it must be.

  • Hey could you tell me the exact name because i know there is another type of B&M hammer shifter and it is curved and chrome. Thanks, nice vid 5 stars.

  • im looking to get one of these for my 96 mustang 3.8. i did have a 89 5.0 that needed a little work. but for the money,(1700), i could buy a new car, and its better on insurance and gas.

  • this takes the fun outta drag racing. yea u go faster, but then u lose a huge technical aspect which requires less skill.

  • @APontiacof455cubes what?? this makes it so you need more skill. you need to shift instead of just put in in D ur not very smart are you?

  • i was referring to manual trans vs automatic. i think ur the one who's not very smart and couldnt figure that out. yea u go faster with an auto but even with a manual valvebody its still easy as fuck to slam a lever forward for each shift.

  • ok ya cuz the work manual is so previlint in ur text.. do you even know what a manual valvebody is?? it has nothing to do with a 5 speed. i can still go from 1-2 in a stock auto. go read a book.

  • manual valvebodies allow manual control of the fluid thats goin through the shift plate of the tranny. not rocket science ya dumb redneck.

  • @APontiacof455cubes well lets agree we both think each other is stupid. sound good? and yes sir i am a redneck and proud of. but i have 01gt a 04 r1 a 04 f-350 so im atleast im liven high on the hog.. and a nice house ta boot

  • yea so what is yer point ....it depends on what you want to do with your car.....

  • well its really for people who drag race or have cars with alot of power so you dont have to worry about pushing in the clutch, automatics shift faster than any human and will give you a better 1/4 mile and all a ratchet type shifter will allow you to do is control when it shifts pretty much

  • a properly built transmission with a manual valve body, and this ratchet shifter will kick the fuck out of a standard in a race. assuming that the two cars are equal in power. Keep you foot to the floor, and just bump to the next gear. no need to let off to shift.

  • not faster than ronnie sox aka "mr. 4spd"

  • @slidinstang i just ordered one and i have the j-mod i have 2 questions. how hard is it to install?? and is the 4r70w aod or aode

  • again....not faster than ronnie sox. RIP

  • @slidinstang why not just get a sequential shifter then? up for next gear. down for lower gear. left for neutral. right for reverse. thats it. wtf is park? what manual tranny car has a park gear?

  • @poeticromance its not manual, its not even trying to be a manual, its mostly old school tec from the late 60's and early 70's that has cought back on with dragsters

  • would a manual valve body be the same thing as a transgo shift kit?

  • it actually is a lot easier and safer than what i had before stock

  • @rednoseroxy gettin up at 5am to go to work is a pain in the ass too, but millions do it everyday. don't be such a lil whiny bitch dude. this setup will slaughter any stick car you can throw; all other things being similar.

  • What's the purpose of canceling/turning off over-drive?

  • if you turn it off it will not go into the last gear.... o/d it is for mpg like freeway driving

  • all turning off over-drive does is stops the car from going into 4th gear, which means youll be turning higher RPM's at highway speeds, therefore bringig down your MPG.

  • so wit this you can put on any knob you want it is not a one piece shifter right?

  • @slidinstang Also keeps the car out of the top gear for drag racing. Prob never go into 4th on the strip

  • @baconsoap78 Most cars trap (cross the 1/4 mark) at the top of their 3rd gear in an automatic. If your car somehow shifted into 4th, you could actually slow down at the 1/4 mark and have a slower ET and trap speed.

  • I just got a new hammer shifter for my car but it works differently. Mine Has to be pulled back (whilst lifting the lever) from Park through into Reverse & then to Neutral before its on a ratchet. And when i want to go back to Park i have to lift the level (whilst in Drive) & then the shifter moves up through Neutral, Reverse & then into Park like a normal shifter. Do you think they changed the design cause i though it was going to a ratchet action in every gear from Park to 1st?

  • that sounds the same as how you have to operate mine. You need to lift to get out of park into R. then from R down to 1 all you need to do is hit it back. Starting at 1 you need to bump it through till you hit neutral which you cant go past. Then in neutral you need to lift the trigger and move up to R then let it go and push it into park. But i have installed a B&M hammer in somones truck that seems to do the same thing as your describing.

  • love the shifter man just got finshed installing my B&M mega shifter works great next I am going full manual with a trans go kit

how do you like yours I love beating on ricers lol

  • I have an 04 GT with a 5spd but this just looks cool. I appreciate automatic transmissions just as much with these devices. Hell sometimes I had an auto lol. Traffic with a stick sucks. do you have to list off the gas pedal when you shift?

  • sometimes I want an auto, I mean

  • no you dont have to let off the gas when you shift

  • the problem with that (i think) that you can't actually see what gear you are in.. unless is higlighter somewhere but i don't see any display..

for me gate shifter is more confortable... ratchet is more for racing style driving..

    BTW nice video

  • you can see what gear your in on the left of the shifter (you can kind of see the bottom of the guage). I have a full manual stage III transgo shift kit, does this shifter go from 1-4 on the upshift or just 1-3 then push a button for 4th? I want a shifter that goes from 1-4.

  • goes from 1-3 manual then push button, the red one on the side, for 4th. But you need to start wiht the O/D Off in order for it to work like that.

  • i have one on my 00 mustang gt and love it. its more ergonomic for me as well, the handle that comes with it is nicer than the stock one. the only downside is driving in below zero temps or summer heat, the metal handle gets real hot or real cold depending what time of year.-as compared to the stock plastic knob.

its funny how many people cant figure out how to work the hammer shifter when they're in my car. lol

  • Thanks for the tutorial!

  • Yeah, now that I got one of these I don't miss driving a stick anymore.

  • I want one! Was it hard to connect and adjust the shifter cable? Also, Where does the LED gear indicator light get it's power source? Along the 12v outlet wires?

  • Thanks man, this helped out a lot!
