  • im not a fan of dog parks cuz its a place to start dog fights

  • That girl is my cousin Ashley and her dog is Blue and is usually at my aunts house when I go there. Blue is SO SWEET. hi zak! Hi Ashley!! -3 Kaylee Marie Burdette:)

  • who would kiss you now after you kissed a dog

  • @MoonyStorm yep :)

  • @MoonyStorm you don't have to be a dog freak... he mentions that he is a catahoula in the video.

  • @MoonyStorm he is definitely a catahoula leopard dog...

  • Indeed, this is defiantly like the English Pointer, Stella, my Pointer, has NEVER kissed me, she leans on my, stick her head up to me and shoves her head in my lap. But that about it But I fricken love her :P

  • haha omg he is just like my dog . he is a lab and WONT KISS me or anyone for nothing!! but he does show affection in many other different ways!!

    love him!!!

  • You've got another dog? o_O Who's blue them ? the greyhound you'r talking bout

  • Loved the vid, but thought I would point out that, as with any breed, some greyhounds are affectionate, "velcro" cuddle bugs, and others are less touchy-feely. My greyhound girl reminds me a lot of your border collies. She always wants to be on my lap, and frequently presses her head against me for scritches and kisses. She doesn't give kisses, but she's definitely a cuddle bug. I've seen greyhounds go both ways, so it really depends on the dog.

    Blue is beautiful, btw! :-)

  • AWH. Blue's ears!! So cute!!

  • My golden is like that two except im pretty sure my mom tought her not to lick when we were younger.. i kinda wish she would now...

  • I so started to laugh at 1:12 so cute :D

  • Hey Zak - I have a mixed breed 'found' dog that I have had since puppyhood. He is a lab mix and like your boy in the video - he doesn't give 'kisses' per se either - he is super affectionate but does what your 'hoola' mix does - tips his head way up and leans his cheek in and such.

  • how can i get my dog to stop jumping up during dinner? i try just pushing her down, telling her down, rewarding her when she is down but she pops up 5 seconds later!

  • hahahahahahahha when alejandro started playing i died.

  • Zak, The 1 year old border collie I adopted in August is just a super animal. He's very submissive, affectionate and mellow and learns tricks very quickly. I notice that he gets quite excited when we're doing tricks and pants a little more than I would think his exertion merits. I've heard this is a sign of stress. Should I try to maintain more calm in the session to mediate this excitement. If yes, how do I reward him? His currency is praise. Or is the panting ok?

  • @hend6475 Praise is not an acceptable currency in and of itself. It's not powerful enough.

  • @zakgeorge21 I don't know about that zak. He responds really well to it. Maybe he just such a great dog that he doesn't need that much incentive. Or maybe it's the play that's his currency..It's sometimes hard to pinpoint exactly what's going on out there in a short comment...I normally don't need food though. So, no advice about the panting?

  • Lol, he's sooo cute!! <3

  • @zakgeorge21 is ashely your sister?

  • tooo funny zak. love it. so ashley is back? ;-) nice.

  • Awesome song for this video =D

  • My dog's name is Blue and she is very affectionate.Sometimes she will come up to me just to get a hug or some scratching(she has dry skin).

Ashley's dog is beautiful. They all have different personalities just like people.

  • What is the story about a Clayton County Georgia cop killing a Golden in is own yard for barking? Is the cop still working for the County? Zak you're from Georgia, do you know anything about this?

  • hahaha! Jackson is not a big kisser either.

  • I was wondering about how you're using the clicker. Firstly, the clicker introduction video link on your other videos is set to private. Finally, I noticed you mention you don't always reward after every click, to phase it out I'm assuming. But I've been reading a lot about clicker training and they always mention that you should always reward after EVERY click, and to phase it out, one should phase out the treat ALONG with the clicker... so I'm very confused now. =P

  • Do you make videos just to get songs stuck in peoples' heads? Whatever, I enjoy it.

  • This video is really very informative as to breed behaviors. You really nailed it about how the greyhound will lean against you and are sweet spirited. We have good friends, a couple who work with a greyhound rescue group and have adopted two greyhounds and the behavior you pointed out is very prevalent with them.

  • Epic video! Lol

    Is ashley your gf? :)

  • My Catahoula Zoey is exactly like Blue. I thought it was just that she was just a more independent dog but I guess its in the genes. Also do you think that it is is okay to use Halti's or gentle leaders? I have a weimaraner who pulls very badly and am not sure how to break him of this habit.

  • @Catahoula155 Gentle leaders are awesome for breaking a dog of pulling. They are a very humane and safe way to train your dog not to pull. Not all that familiar with the Halti's but definitely recommend the gentle leaders.

  • @Catahoula155 i like the halti better bc it has an extra strap that hooks to your dog's collar, so if he pulls the halti off of his head, you sill have control of him by his collar.

  • haha i love these vids zac :)

  • Is blue your dog or ashley's?

  • @OATAGILITY mine :)

  • yeah, my dog had a really bad pulling problem, my friend told me to use the prong, but I didn't instead I used the choke collar, which is much better.

  • @OATAGILITY

The choke is even worse than the pinch as they lend themselves to being misused and doing permanent damage to your dog. Throw away both and try a sporn no-pull harness or a gentle leader.

Throw out the old methods and try a clicker.

Teach your dog to think and enjoy working with you rather than forcing him into submission.

    Your dog will appreciate it.

    Remember:

    Fairness in all things

  • @rottwild4ever I do use the clicker, and it works well, but about the choke collar, the way I use it is when it is on, I also have another regular leash on, but when he pulls I made the chain's leash shorter, and that was just to get him started in the heel, once he got the idea, I went to the slip lead which tightened even though it is cloth. Then just went to the regular collar and renforced the heel with the clicker, I never misused it.

  • @OATAGILITY I did not mean to imply that you were mistreating your dog. A lot of people still use the old school methods but the difference is when you are forcing a behavior you are doing all the thinking for your dog. With the clicker you stimulate your dogs mind and teach them to think for themselves. Your dog will actually look forward to your training sessions It is believed that the clicker affects the muscle memory. You will develop a deeper bond and training is easy and fun

  • @rottwild4ever The reason I used the chain collar is because my 200 pound newfy saw another dog down the street with me, I used the chain for less than a week, and it helped alot as long as you use it right. Last week I saw someone pretty much strangling their boxer with one I told him to use it right or not use it at all, they said they didn't need to listen to me, I pulled a cupon for a gentle leader and money for the rest of it and I got to trade the choke for the money and cupon with him

  • Zak, I have been considering getting a border collie pup soon. What are some things to know about the breed? What are some tips you would give? Are yours purebred? Would they they be happier with another dog or by themselves? My old dog was a mixed Border Collie/Keeshound. Great dog, healthy, and had tons of energy. Can I expect the something with a purebred? Thanks.

  • What happened to Kelly?

  • lol, this is somethin Charles Trippy would do to a vlog... hahaha Hilarious.. keep it up.

  • it -15 in northern ireland

  • OMG, blue looks exactly like my dog luna... O.O look dogster.com/dogs/1170078

  • OMG, blue looks exactly like my dog luna... O.O

  • My dog also don't like to cuddle to much. He likes his freedom and want to choose when he needs a smoochie ^^ so sometimes I just force him to and then most times it's okay for him .. weirdo.

  • My dog wakes me up in the morning by jumping on my bed and kissing my face. My mom hates it when I let my dog kiss my lips. Shes like "that is so nasty."

  • This is cute. :)

  • My dog attacks me by kissing my face..

  • Se hace de rogar lol

  • i love to deep throat kiss my dog

  • I really liked this video Zak! It was fun to watch and well done ^^

My dogs are all kissers. Especially my Biewer Yorkie, he can't stop :p

    Greets from Belgium!

  • @zakgeorge21 do you think the prong collar is a good idea for my GSD ?

  • @hohohee1 prong collar is never a good idea - can do more damage than it solves. try positive reinforcement (e.g. clicker training).

  • @smortydella prong collar? CAN be a good idea. When isn't it a good idea? When idiots don't know how to use it and hurt their dogs. But if you know what you're dealing with? They can be incredible training tools.

  • @kodatastical I have a different oppinion on that. Shure they can be effective, but even used "right" (and i've seen a lot cruelty that is supposed to be right) - it's not really humane and there are other much more effective and better training methods. Punishment and "correction" only stops behaviour. It doesn't tell the dog/animal what to do instead. So if you have a dog full of energy you will probably have to "break" him, to make him willingless, to stop him.

  • @smortydella Whatever mate. You have your opinion and I have mine. I just believe that when training a dog, you have to balance corrections and praise. Yes, praise is very important, but punishment as well.

  • @hohohee1 No. True behavior is taught from the inside out, not through force.

  • @zakgeorge21 but my GSD got much better .... i took him to some training school which cost over 1k .... and he improved .. and they used that collar which they told me to reinforce for about 4 months .. without the collar this dog goes crazy ... it's a puppy so full of energy and it doesn't listen well ..

  • @hohohee1 Am I to forward to say leave this training school? Don't break your dog like this. Pain is never a good method. You should train with your dog. Together not against! Please don't force him like that. Every puppy is full of energy. It's up to you to show him using this energy the right way. Transform it in a useful kind. Give him something to do. Learning tricks f.e. cost more energy than most people believe. Show him a way to please you. Work out the source not only the problem.

  • @YoshiWolpertinger too late :( hiss done with his 1 month training ..... and it cost over 1 k .. ridicolous but he is now well trained and changed ..

  • @hohohee1 Prong and choke type collars are associated with many neck and spinal injuries due to mishandling. Often the dog will fight the collar and injure themselves. Sometimes the person training may not have a full understanding of how to use these tools either. I personally think they are unnecessary and have never found the need to use them in training my own canine companions.

  • @hohohee1 When dogs bite each other in there natural environment it is a way of communication. It is how a leader keeps the others in the pack in check, and it is how a mother shows her pups that they are not ready to wander on there own when she bites them in the neck and drags them back. This is dog psychiatry stuff but my point is that a prong collar is a good idea for any dog. Just use it in a proper and responsible way.

  • @gapalafox Guess what? WE are not dogs. We are better leaders and better communicators than other dogs. Therefore your logic is deeply flawed, unsubstantiated, and shallow (respectfully). Since dogs are domestic animals (unlike wolves) and were bred to perform human tasks on behalf of people, they are predisposed to understand human communication. While some want to cater to wolf ancestral influences, I find it more effective to extract the human influences of our dogs. Make sense folks?

  • @zakgeorge21Guess what? dogs are not people. I use to work at the humane society and I seen a lot of dogs go down because there owners were not able to communicate with them to not biteChildren. You have a good show here and though you know a lot, im sure you don’t know everything. So this response isn’t for you it’s just a public post that I hope everybody gets the chance to read. So that the people who love there dogs are able to balance the leadership and discipline their dog needs with love.

  • @zakgeorge21 I've always felt that prong collars and choke chains were sensible but I could never find a way to explain myself and you did it perfectly right there. Thank You :)

  • proud is what they are! i have a spanish greyhound myself, and yes, he is very special in how he expresses himself.

  • My border collie, Duchess, isn't into kissing either. The ONLY one in our household that she will kiss ONCE in a GREAT while is me. No kissing for anyone else. When she does kiss me it is like quick and fast.

  • Hey Zak, I love your videos and use your positive reinforcement techniques on my dog who is very intelligent and I have taught him a lot of tricks.

    But...

He LOVES to bark and I haven't been very successful in controlling the barking or distracting him from what he is barking at. Could you make a video showing how to teach the "quiet" command or describe how to do it?

    Thanks so much!!!
