LOOK Jones was taking some punches on the ropes the Roy started blocking a bit better. That's when Green began to pull Jones' gloves down just so he could connect. The ref really should have pulled them apart for all of the grabbing. I believe that Roy could have finished the rd but hey it is what it is. Crap stoppage, first round after 1 knockdown Jones was up at 5 and there was only 3 seconds left in the round. He should have been given the ooportunity to get back in the fight. Plenty of guys have come back from far worse to win. The aussie ref just wanted to stop it at the earliest oopurtunity.

As I said he got up no problem and although he was'nt throwing back none of Greens punches at the end were landing they were just hitting Roys arms. He could have easily survived to the bell. He just got caught with one good shot and had a flash knockdown. Almost every fighter has a bad moment at some point during a fight.

If you've been hit in the head its no big deal to cover up and allow yourself to take a few body shots whilst your head clears (or vise versa) There were only seconds left in the round.
In boxing its generaly a rule in any title fight to let the boxer have every opportunity to continue as long as he's mentally coherant - ie still knows where he is.

@dan32113 Not throwing punches for a short while does'nt mean anything. When a ref takes a standing count all he asks is for the fighter to raise his gloves and take a few steps forward, if the fighter understands this command and is steady on his feet then thats good enough to let it continue.
This fight was a complete farce a flash knockdown when the fight had barely started and the ref stops it. The paying viewers got robbed of a fight that could have gone the distance.

Theres countless examples of better comeback wins. Gatti got hurt worse than Jones in nearly all his fights but he usually went on to win. This is like a football team scoring 3 goals in the first 10 mins and the ref stopping the match and proclaiming them the winners. - Jones was hurt but far from finished.

jj jr was, as anyone must admit, a living legend in his prime. he was mr-unstopable, but, every dog has its day, i fully recognise that jj jr is a boxer of immense ability, and who can forget style, this defeat does not degrade my opnion of him at all. accusation of fowl play, to my own knowledge, are unfounded attempts to preserve and man whos reputation needs to help in its sucess.
Wonder why Jones Jr. doesn't retire? One of the most physically gifted boxers of all-time but his only drawback is that his style draws from his athleticism. Since he's getting older, he has truly lost his step. In my opinion, he was declining when he fought Tarver. Could be that he dropped from heavyweight to light heavyweight after beating Ruiz or his age or a combination. Overlooking that, this man was truly a legend in his prime. You can't take this victory away from Danny Green however.

@ChrisinEC if a ref is supposed to stop a fight each and every time a fighter gets wobbled or stumbles after a hit or after gettin back up from a knock down, then some of the greatest fights that have ever taken place wud have never happened. now if rjj had gotten back up and was taken blows like Ali did Vs Holmes then ok, stop the fuckin fight. but if they get back up and theyre defending themselves without taking any clean damage then give the fighter a fighting chance!

LOOK Jones was taking some punches on the ropes the Roy started blocking a bit better. That's when Green began to pull Jones' gloves down just so he could connect. The ref really should have pulled them apart for all of the grabbing. I believe that Roy could have finished the rd but hey it is what it is. Crap stoppage, first round after 1 knockdown Jones was up at 5 and there was only 3 seconds left in the round. He should have been given the ooportunity to get back in the fight. Plenty of guys have come back from far worse to win. The aussie ref just wanted to stop it at the earliest oopurtunity.

As I said he got up no problem and although he was'nt throwing back none of Greens punches at the end were landing they were just hitting Roys arms. He could have easily survived to the bell. He just got caught with one good shot and had a flash knockdown. Almost every fighter has a bad moment at some point during a fight.

If you've been hit in the head its no big deal to cover up and allow yourself to take a few body shots whilst your head clears (or vise versa) There were only seconds left in the round.
In boxing its generaly a rule in any title fight to let the boxer have every opportunity to continue as long as he's mentally coherant - ie still knows where he is.

@dan32113 Not throwing punches for a short while does'nt mean anything. When a ref takes a standing count all he asks is for the fighter to raise his gloves and take a few steps forward, if the fighter understands this command and is steady on his feet then thats good enough to let it continue.
This fight was a complete farce a flash knockdown when the fight had barely started and the ref stops it. The paying viewers got robbed of a fight that could have gone the distance.

@dan32113 Watch the Benn/Mclelan fight or Vargas Trinidad fight both of those were much worse 1st rnd knockdowns but the ref let the fight continue and there was another 10 rnds of action. Theres countless examples of better comeback wins. Gatti got hurt worse than Jones in nearly all his fights but he usually went on to win. This is like a football team scoring 3 goals in the first 10 mins and the ref stopping the match and proclaiming them the winners. - Jones was hurt but far from finished.

Since he's getting older, he has truly lost his step. In my opinion, he was declining when he fought Tarver. Could be that he dropped from heavyweight to light heavyweight after beating Ruiz or his age or a combination. Overlooking that, this man was truly a legend in his prime. You can't take this victory away from Danny Green however.

I really think so. He was gone after dropping from heavyweight to light heavyweight. His speed was definitely decreasing after that. In his prime, he was untouchable. Would be a good fight if both were in their prime but Roy Jones would win beacuse he was simply too fast. It's a sad thing no one will ever know.

Althought I agree that Roy Jones in his prime would have won this fight, it is not Danny Green's fault that Roy Jones Jr has fought beyond his prime and wanted this fight. Unfortunately the fact that Jones Jr refuses to retire and is continuing to loose to the top guys it is easy to fall into the trap of forgetting his past accomplishments.

I'm glad Roy lost. He show boated around Australia for a few months then before the fight. On the night he rocked up in his big stretch pimped limo with a hundred guards and trainers etc covered his face and ran in. Green parked his Toyota behind the arena and walked in with his wife and kids and smiled to the cameras.
