I think The use of leather gloves is a must given the direct contact over the device. Long rappels would impose an increasingly heat on the Bowring device.
I liked the way You can lock off the device and use the handle to continue rappeling with just a firm pull. What I think could be of risk are those ending point shapes. Other than that the device is cool.
