It's some sort of debris from the orbiter. That's a fact. What it could be is questionable. Most likely ice. The 'pulsing' you think you see is the sunlight reflecting off the debris at different intensities as it rotates. And I can easily explain the flashes at the times you noted. They're not flashes at all. They're merely the visible results of the camera adjusting itself as the amount of sunlight changes. It happens all the time during missions.
Check the screen at exactly 3:49 and see what starts to appear at a really far distance. From the size perspective of the shuttle and the distance between it and the Earth, you'd have to be an idiot to say that's ice, dust or debree..I'm not going to say is an UFO, but whatever it is, is clearly a very big object and it's moving very fast towards the Earth. Say and believe what you will, but the truth won't be hidden very much longer..

...this stuff floats about getting churned up every time the spacecraft manouvers. The smallest particles can be pushed back and forth by just sunlight as they emerge from the earths shadow. In short - particles large and small swarm around all spacecraft like sunbeams in all directions. Sometimes ice flakes detach from engines etc and catch the sunlight and 'bloom' or flare on cameras as in this clip..
Add to this numerous explosive bolts & charges that separate the various stages, boosters etc,. then add to that propellants, cryogenic tanks, urine dumps etc,. and you have ALOT OF STUFF CLINGING AND FLOATING UP THERE WITH THE SPACECRAFT.
Every single spaceflight that has ever occured involves a spacecraft that has spent time on earth, some of it in the open, getting dust, water, ice, dirt, bird crap, insects etc,. ALL OVER IT. Look at some of the shuttle closeups when its on the pad - ITS FILTHY!
I too saw this thing on live nasa tv but i could not get the recording gear up in time to catch it so thanks for getting this up here. Do us a favour though and put the timestamp in your comment at what time you see the event so every will know when to look ok. And trim the video to just a few secs would be great too, keep it up.
Its called THE MOON you muppets. Remember 2 things, 1)the shuttle is travelling 17,500 mph 2) This is a wide angle video shot. The moon at this format would appear like a large dot and would appear to rise, cross the "sky" in less than 45 minutes and set again only to rise again another 45 minutes later. UFO my backside.
