  • Oh my god, it's so fast! It can outmaneuver most fortifications!

  • I was sitting here thinking: "Don't turn around... Don't turn around... Don't turn around..."

Mech turns around and... "Ohhhhh SHIT!"

  • Dude the freaking Atlas outran the damn thing. That's pretty sad.

  • tanks are as you say 1000 years behind mechs no reason not to think that we as a speices could not come up with something better than tanks is not only sad but a huge four leged mech would be just as heavy and would persent the same if not more problems

  • This isn't a real mech....

    ....

it's a target, only a fucking slow target, slow in movement and in moving the torso... a MadCat Mk2 piloted by a real pilot can quickly destroy it's big armor plate and avoid it's weapons due to MC2 speed

  • oh my fckin.......is this a real game?? i wanna play it, right now. Gimme the mech, i wanna shot, shot up.

  • @chlebak123

Nope. It's a promotional video for the now-defunct tabletop game called Mechwarrior: Age of Destruction.

  • all started with Battletech the still going wargame. the 25th anniversary boxed set came out recently from Catalyst games

  • @chlebak123 mech warrior 4?

  • Who Did this?

  • What is the name of the smaller mech, the one escorting the Ares? It has the gatling gun on the right arm

  • @Over9000Mongos not sure as i've never played mechwarrior darkage, but it looks like a varient of the atlas, or somthing similer.

  • @Over9000Mongos not sure as i've never played mechwarrior darkage, but it looks like a varient of the atlas, or somthing similer.

  • @Over9000Mongos not sure as i've never played mechwarrior darkage, but it looks like a varient of the atlas, or somthing similer.

  • @Over9000Mongos maybe a Warlord? That is supposed to be the updated Atlas model.

  • A squad of infantry with some explosive charges would drop that thing. So slow and all it's guns are aimed at fighting only mechs. It's turning is so terrible, you only need one aerospace fighter (doesn't matter which). Maybe just a Hachetman to stand behind it all the time and hit it in the CTR.

  • how can that be a mech when you need 3 pilots to use it?

  • A few well placed PPC's and a rack of LRM`s would do that thing in good. Although what would happen if it lost a leg?

  • Please...please don't tell me that you imported Dark Age/Jihad to MW4.

This is what happens when we give kids modding tools without them able to read backstory.

  • BIG DEAL so its huge and powerful we claners could KICK ITS BUTT ALL THE WAY TO THE HEART OF THE INNERSPHERE! (i hope i spelled all that right)

  • @ElWolf70 You're not much of a Clanner there, using contractions and all.

  • @refutonefandus Clanners don`t use contractions?

  • @ElWolf70 You got it, bub. It's considered a bastardization of English and lazy speech.

  • Of all the mechs i have faced... the ares puts them to SHAME! Nothing except a crapload of mechs armed with full homing rockets could take this thing down. Am i right?

  • @Kyro562

No you are wrong. Why do you need "homing rockets" to take that down. First off, rockets are unguided munitions, so nice one. Second, it is a massive, slow target, you can easily hit it with anything. It is 135 tons, not a dropship, the thing is not immortal just because it is slightly over assault class. Hit it with a few PPCs and AC/20s and see what happens

  • @Kerenskyz15 You would have think that it would have extremely strong armor, PPC's would be one of the only things that would do reasonable damage to it before it turned on you. A couple units with Heavy Gauss equipped and it would be scrap in moments. It's a giant super tank so if I was a strategist I would set up mechs around it with PPC's for medium range cover and move a couple heavier mechs up close with Gauss rounds. Simple as that.

  • @lastashio8

Its armor would probably only be slightly better, if not worse than assault-class. Look how big it is, especially with the surface area of 3 legs. It is only 135 tons, compared to lets say a 100 ton Daishi. The Daishi is smaller with less surface area. Also, being a Clan mech, as well as overall a lighter tonnage, it has lightweight internals using EndoSteel. The Aries would have a very heavy internal structure for support, and have a lot of area to spread armor over making it thin

  • @lastashio8 Gauss is an extremely long range weapon. If you're moving in close then you want LBX autocannons.

  • @IaidokaNC I'm saying gauss because whether it be long range or short it'll punch a lovely sized hole in your mech.

  • Those are too damn slow

  • Why not remove the slow ass legs and replace them with treads?

  • I bet a Knightmare Frame could rip this to shreds.

    LANCELOT ALBION!!

  • that thing better be 800 feet tall and be ableto survive a nuke or your in trouble

  • Looks like, it's meant to keep the enemy busy while 'smaller' units keep it safe and pick off targets.

  • pics or it didn- ...faster mech or it didnt happen!

  • What is this vid from ? Liveing ledgens .. or the next mech game .. is this ingame graphics?

  • that looks like it would be mostly a mech for defending a base in a last ditch effort or the final blow in demolishing a base

  • @warriorofsteel01

It is actually an moving base.

  • @JoshuatheKodiak - if this is a moving base, consider it the Dresari Palace from MW4... toasted... "A MechWarrior is more useful as a PILOT, than a CORPSE" - much rather have two or three 50 tonners for the price of this shitbox.

  • The Ares has 3 operators and weighs 100+ tons. Seems impractical for BattleTech, yet cool.

  • pilot:*laughing*

    operator:i'm guessing you arived?

pilot: *laughs* nope! I just brought beer! I'm not even five meters from base yet! *hystarical laughing* WWWEEEE!!!

operator: god! what I'd give for radio silence!

  • A Nova or Puma could stick and move and snipe that overly budgeted piece. Hell a Masaraki could rape that thing from extreme range and cycle PPC after PPC into it. Im not a fan

  • I would pilot Headmaster and just stomp everything!...JK!

  • Must... walk... faster... ah fuck my life...

  • @Wahlnutz Lawlz, a firemoth could rape those Ares with ease...

  • @PaintingPointman Yeah, as long as the Firemoth(dasher) can get to hit with out getting bitch slapped by heavy weapons... he would just stand under him and shoot him in the motivational parts ;)

  • the fucking size of that thing i hope i dont have to fight it lolol

  • @TheRpm160 It looks extremely slow. Slower than the slowest 100 tonner. It's a walking target.

"Mech's are mobile war machines. You're either moving, or you're dead" - Commander Andrew Steiner

  • @JaySharp604 absolutely. its ok if your 100 tonner goes 35 miles... but that thing is like... 8 mph? Simply to slow to get out of the firing range of anything

  • @JaySharp604 Well it is experimental. It also looks like it's meant to hold a point on the map not go out a kill on the move.

  • @JaySharp604 Well the Behemoth is like a walking deathtrap in MW4M, but it has enough firepower to take out a entire lance of heavy mechs as well.

  • @JaySharp604 all mechs are walking targets if u get down to it, insane silhouette, would sink into the ground the instant it sets its foot on something else than concrete, raise one leg and it would instantly fall (thats why all big things walk on min 4 legs), shoot and it will topple, looks cool but froma mmilitary point of view totaly inpractical, thats why we use tanks, they are faster, smaller, cheaper, have fewer weak points and even look cool...

  • @rusalkin Search M4 Abram tank in Wikipedia. They are over 60tonnes. They don't "instantly sink". Obviously the technology is far fetched, but not unrealistic. They have what is called Myomer Bundles which act like muscles, contracting to pull limbs in a direction, acting in unison. They also have balancing gyros to counter act weight shifting. The pilot has a helmet to interact neurologically with the mech to use the pilots sense of balance. This IS ~1000 years in the future.

  • @JaySharp604 true, now take 10 of those and stack them on top of each other = sink :) if in a 1000 years that thing weighs as much as a single abrams, then we can talk

  • @JaySharp604 but it compansate with extreme armor and 1 hit kill weaponry

  • @JaySharp604 Unless your crouching and blowing things to pieces with your radar off that is, which is quite helpful, but still a gambit xD

  • @TheRpm160 With that size is simply a hindrance, get a Archer or Catapult to open up from max range and just rain hell down upon it till it gives ;)

  • @Wahlnutz lol haaa

  • Just get a Cougar or Puma/other low slung mech and sit under it, shooting it in the genitiles.

    Dark Age sucks.

  • that was not the ares unless they are taking the heavy class version scrapping it and creating a new 135 ton assault heavy version..... but no thats not the ares

  • @kaiyne316 this is the real Ares. The one from the mekpaks are fan made. I wish it was the other way around as well. :/

  • That thing is a three-legged beast. If I was a general and saw this thing, I would order a retreat, with all of my mechs focusing fire on this thing while walking backwards.

  • dark age = FAIL

  • true a giant mech would be vulnerable to missile os air attacks from fighter-bombers. but then again they've been saying the same thing about tanks for awhile now to. but perhaps they could invent a more effective anti-missile system like some sort of shield or something

  • @SNCLHN Most of the time people have the option to add machine gun based or laser based missile defense wepons on their mech.

  • @SNCLHN missile intercepting weapons. examples of such can be found in some mech games like armored core.

  • @SNCLHN

Against missiles mechs have Anti-Missile System althought not every mech has one as it special equiptment. Against fighters they have LB-X ACs and Pulse Lasers.

  • i like the ragnorok better, if thats how you spell it.

  • @spartanprodigy

Its Ragnarök son,Its true,i doe fink so too.

  • @Haddockxyz300 that i would have to agree with Ragnarök seems to ring a bell

  • @kaiyne316

Yep,i would love to see the Rangarök in a MechWarrion game.

  • What game is this??

  • @Vladamor its not a game, its a fan made animation.

  • I believe the Fafnir is the best experimental mech and the best assault Mech. its duel heavy Gauss rifles would tear anything apart.

  • @chromehounds2 the fafnir is not an experimental mech, the one in mech 4 mercenaries is a refit prototype of a long running design same with the templar

  • 130 tons of deadlyness... Byebye atlas

  • what game is the ares confirmed in?

  • Wrong. Sorry. In Battletech literature, the Ares was a pseudo-OmniMech. In other words it could be fitted with a variety of weapons. Not many were produced. Most of them had a balanced loadout. The torso had permanent weapons that could not be changed which were mainly short range and anti-personnel in nature. That made commanders choose changable parts generally with at least one long range weapon.

Despite it's 135 tons, it was outgunned by 100 ton mechs and needed 3 operators inside.

  • i agree that the ares would have long range weapons as its prime and due to its slow speed and 3 legged configure that it would serve great as a mobile heavy weapons platform that could use the heaviest of weapons that no other mech could even use

  • @metaleater9 in reguards to a tripod being better than a biped on an incline, set up a camera tripod on an incline and lift up one leg, suddenly the whole thing wants to fall in. The direction of that leg. Also, biped mechs in mecharrior and battletech can sidestep. You don't need to defend a stupid design madeup only as a marketing ploy. Also any heavy or assault mech can carry the heaviest weapon in the fiction, a long tom artillery with ammo. You don't know what your talking about, obviously

  • @robspartan117 a camera tripod cant be used to show the ares climbing as a mech can and has to shift its center of gravity and weight to move. a camera tripod cant do that so that example is wrong.

as for the weapons deal, im talking about weapons that never have been put on a mech.

oh and the ares is a experimental project to see if 100+ ton "mechs" are effective.

  • @metaleater9 OH and mechs CANT side step. meaning they can't move sideways without turning. (AKA STRAFING!)

  • @metaleater9 actually they can. another good instance of when someone has only played the pc game or mechassault.

you fail sir for not even knowing basic mech movement rules

  • @robspartan117 go read the CLASSIC game rule book, it say that mech can only move forward or backward in the direction they are facing.

    CONT

    VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV

  • @metaleater9 in the classic battletech quick start guide under PAGE 8 right under "MOVEMENT DIRECTION" it CLEARLY states that "A BattleMech can move forward into the hex it is facing or backward into the hex directly to its rear. It cannot move into any other hex unless it first changes its facing (see Facing). The diagram below shows the two hexes that a BattleMech may enter without changing its facing" NOW PUT THAT IN YOUR PIPE AND SMOKE IT!
  • @metaleater9 Even manuels must gvie way to physics. The areas has a ball joint for the hip not a standard pin joint. Therefore like you and me the ares is theorectily capable of strafing. however due to its insane wieght this feature is most likely useless in combat.

  • @dschappel its that its has a hip joint that lets it strafe its thet fact that its legs are set up in a omnidirectional setup and it dose help with such great weight as it can shift its weight when moving over rough terrain. but in combat that is useless unless its "dodging" some sort of VERY slow missile or land torpedo.

and i said that the ares can strafe i was saying th it was one of the few that CAN strafe.

  • @metaleater9 also, by the rules this mech can't exist in battletech because internal structure for a mech cannot exceed 100 tons. Don't believe me? Buy the tech manual and read

  • @robspartan117

the battletech manual is saying that a 100 ton mech cant exceed its 100 mark due to its internal structure's limit, it doesn't say a that there cant be a mech with a internal structure made for exceeding the 100 ton mark,

and if im wrong and it inst a mech then what the hell is it classified as, a tank?

cuse you can buy them and use them in a match and that's why there is only one "mech" that exceeds the 100 ton "limit" and it has 3 crew members and is a experimental project.

  • does anyone know if they still make mech warrior minis. i can't find them anywhere:(

  • @Axex272 wizkidz died like 2 years ago. So no they aren't making them anymore

  • @robspartan117 That sucks

  • @Axex272 yeah.... kinda. WK was run by a bunch of losers anyway.

  • @robspartan117 ya like half their products had someting wrong with them(two right arms, missing parts, etc.)didn't they get bought? Y wouldnt you buy MW with WizKidz?!?!?

  • @Axex272 no WK went bankrupt because their company heads were too stupid to know that their their entire company couldnt run on just the profits from hero clix.

wizkidz never deserved to have the mechwarrior/battletech IPs in my opinion. if you want a good game, look up battletech - where mechwarrior came from

  • DarkAge is the worst thing to happen to Battletech since FASA closed down

  • The Ares is like a Metal Gear i think. powerfull over great distance

  • @Zuhko Not really. Most of them have very little weaponry that would be considered "long range".

  • @stonerhino0

I've been out of the Mechwarrior ring for awhile. Can the Ares go toe to toe with the Atlas?

  • @stonerhino0 specifically why no one uses the Ares. Too much firepower with short-medium range and no long range, very costly, heavy, takes forever to turn around, slow as SHIT, rare, and requires 3 people to pilot it.

  • @orkkilla5589 It's also 'tarded. Like most of Dark Age.

  • @Zuhko It looks to slow that I think a couger could take it out.

  • @Zuhko Don't make compraissions, the MEtal Gears are essentially MEchwarriors ripoff, as are the wanzers and any other Military gigant robot.

  • @das81 not really sure on that... as mechwarrior came out in 86 and metal gear in 87. plus all the mechs from the original battletech came from robotech...

  • @krondax: Well, not *ALL* ... just the unseen

  • @Zuhko

I don't think so. Look at the long barrels. It requires sight to fire.

If we're talking MW's catapult, the all long range, no-visual required, fire and forget, single/multi solution capability - boom-krakaboom-BANG

  • Dude that thing would kick an atlas's ass :X and atlass is a 100 ton beast

  • Are there any technical specs about the Ares somewhere that are at least somewhat more like CBT?

  • From what i heard the Ares actually needs 3 pilots to operate properly

    1: to operate the torso

    1: to operate the legs

1: to operate weapons (thus relying heavily on the torso guy)

But a single Atlas and a poor tank as an escort ?

Dang thoses guys really needs to do some salvage...

BTW is it me or this thing actually have a rotary on its left arm ?

  • @hydremajor in MW:AOD the Ares has a Engineer, gunner and pilot....what the engineer does idk......That Ares has a Ultra AC 10 on its arm, none of them have Rotary anythings...or did u mean in the atlas? That does hahah

  • @CMDRFandragon

    Well my bet is:

    Engineer: legs

    Pilot: torso

    Gunner: guns DUH...

And i was talking of the Ares since the left arm looked like an oversized gatling more or less...

  • Well think about it this way, is it easier to dismantle your turret or turn it into a mobile device? battlemechs are complex machine's currently to advanced for us to use. I think having a 90 ton behemoth that has the flexibility to lend it's firepower where tank battalions cannot is infinitely better than the former. I think however that warhammer's view on the matter is much better a Titan that is. Look em up

  • The reason Mech's don't exist is because they'd be too easily eliminated by airpower. Think about it, if we can design a 90 TON walking turret, then surely we can design a SINGLE missile to take it out. All mechs are inferior, albethem awesome designs.

  • a single missile wouldn't be that hard to take out of the air.

    poof.

  • I'm a Giant Robot fan. I'm a fan of everything Giant Robot. Name it, I'm very likely a fan. ACs/Nexts are more advanced. Although Mechwarrior weaponry is far more devastating. I would personally like an army of ACs to start the war and then the Battlemechs to come in and mop up.

  • still breaking balls, you little armored core fans ?

  • Wait, where are the hEAVY GEARS?

  • @Dinyctis lmao, forgotten, just like EA's series. sad it disappeared, just like the battlezone series, both sold really well.

  • shit my armored core mech would pwn these things in like 5 seconds.....

  • @paparoachrules09 true, cuz these things are so damn slow they wont be able to even get a crack at u, it may take a while to take them down though, cuz of all the armor.

  • @orkkilla5589 it would take me a while but i could pwn em i have a light weight so they wouldnt be able to hit me xD

  • Damn straight my mech would mo them and their mother down lol

  • gOD DAMN RIGHT

  • what's armored core?

  • Amored Core?........ -.- Armored Cores... As thay are called Are not even set in the same time as Mechs... And i think i can speak for all those mechwarriors out there when i say BLOWIT OUTYOUR ASS BUB AC and all its seqils BLOW the came play AND STORY are WEAK!!!!! And so are the weapons...

  • armored cores are stronger than these lol armed with Kojima weapons and there blades would kill these.... the Spirit of Mother Will is larger than this and 1 ONE armored core can take it down even with just blades....

  • Mechwarrior is far more realistic then Armored Core.

  • Yeah, if we're talking about the early stages of mech warfare that is...

  • @darthgotica Ah yes! So when the time for Robot battles comes, we shall be better prepared than those armored core playing freebirth scum!!!!11one

  • @QuietReckoning Meh. We can fly =). Boosters ftw =D. What's the use of superpowered battlestations if they are easily outmaneuvered?

  • very well done.

  • yes it looks cool, but its described as "outgunned by some Assault 'Mechs dating from the 3060s"

its a slow monster, and will probably be fielded as much as the stone rhino... not much then.

  • the guys in the jeep would have gotten away if they had waited a bit longer

  • that looks a shitload like the mechwarrior4 mp4 Turkina mech if i didnt have the third leg

  • working on a mech with three legs... this video was very helpful.

  • when are they going to be making some new battle tech games

  • when they get over the legal problems with and finish the Mechwarrior reboot.

  • Good god I cant wait, I've been stewing over Mechwarrior since 02. Apparently the legal issues are just about a likeness infraction to another mech series regarding one of the new mechs in the teaser video they released. It's an easy fix, not a major hiccup.

I hope they work fast, damn it, I want this game within the next two or three years at most

  • @Etimos That infraction...is an old violation renewed.. The original Battletech/Mechwarrior designers used the Robotech mechs originally for inspiration..and the likeness carried over so they were forced to change... And..it happened again when they tried making the latest Mechwarrior game (Which has a still unknown release date..)..they used a design similar to existing Robotech designs..

  • That's fine, it's an easily fixed problem. I imagine since the game is in an early stage of development they just used the inspiration to get themselves moving, and now that the project has some momentum, they'll be able to tweak things enough to pass as legally distinct ;)

half the mechs out there are technically ripped off of other mechs. People are mech-crazy all over the world, and nearly every design has already been done by somebody somewhere.

  • there is the new Mechwarrior reboot, just called mechwarrior....idk when its gunna be out but its being worked on by a guy from FASA, the ones who made MC1 and did it right so im hoping the game owns like MC1 did

  • Mechwarrior. Brand new vid game, reboot of the series set in 3015. Search for the trailer here on youtube.

  • @bomerman104 Mechwarrior 5 is in the works currently. But a release date isnt comfirmed yet due to legal issues that the original Battletech/Mechwarrior games faced. (Ex. The owners of Robotech are making a fuss again..)

  • It's coming out in 2010, hopefully. Look up Mechwarrior 5 on youtube and check out the wicked in game footage.

  • @Rogue284

maybe they won't hose the clans this time around.

  • Grab crysis (for the engine) and look up the mod Mechwarrior: Living Legends. It's currently the best thing running in Mechwarrior gaming. Still in beta, but very playable.

  • Dark Ages ruined battletech.

  • thank you! thank you! thank you! I've loved Battletech nearly all my life but when WizKids bought out the property and launched this whole Dark Age nonsense it hurt. It felt that WizKids abused the story in order to sell more miniatures. The fall of the Star League was enough of a dark age. Battletech when Fasa owned it was an ever evolving place not something were a single war could hit the reset button.

  • I thought the idea of the Word Of Blake fuckers taking on the entire inner sphere and clans was awesome. But I really need to pick up that source book. The Megamek server that was based on it was awesome.

FASA got fucked over bad by Harmony gold a few times. Too bad since the unseen mechs were the best.

  • ummm, second secession war? going in they had warships, jumpships, dubble heat sinks, XL engines, and ultra AC tech; by the end only jumpships were left, and they had to be placed under the protection of the Aries Convention. this is also the time frame were you see a single lance of mismatched mechs guarding an entire planet

  • But that's my point exactly. Battletech already had one galaxy spanning holocaust of a dark age with the Succession Wars and the fall of the Star League. The universe didn't need another one. Personally it felt to me that WizKids was trying to figure out how to disrespect and tamper with the universe such that mech would be rare and you'd have to buy lots of booster packs in order to get the mechs you'd want. When Fasa had Battletech it always felt like story was first, not the profit motive.

  • ahhh i get what you saying now, personally i always thought it was to appease the 3025 "purists" and there unreasoning hatred of advanced clan tech. i say that because i'd seen alot of people in that demographic jump over to the clix game with both feet.

me, i just played the game, and enjoyed it for what it was, blowing off the storyline behind it.

  • *chuckles* Something that big and that slow, easy target. Get in close and pick it apart.

  • I bid two stars of elementals to beat that freebirth pile of junk.

  • whoa what is this, did microsoft go and make a mechwarrior 5 without me knowing it?

  • no but someone else is

  • Exactly. The Ares is best as a mobile turret.

  • the ares was probably equipped with long range weaponry, due to the fact that it is extremely slow.

and probably had a second mech with it to shoot incoming mechs or not easy to kill targets from behind or sides. since its torso probably moved slowly as well

  • Of course- nobody would field an Ares alone; that would be... well, stupid.

For the powerhouses that they are, they do have to be husbanded.

  • @stonerhino0 yup id keep a couple light or medium mechs with it to attack incoming enemys from behind, probably heavys like riflemans due to there flexibility,

Im pretty sure the ares can field all sorts of ultra powerful long range guns such as PPCs heavy and regular gauss rifles, heavy rocket launchers, LRM 20s and also a couple weapons in case an enemy gets too close like a LBXAC or something. but it only had a couple of its kind due to the cost of making it, it took 3 ppl to pilot it!!!

  • Sadly in the WK Mechwarrior game they have ranges the same as any other piece and no real advantage over any other piece...all in all they are pretty well useless in standard 600-750 pt games.....they cost all your points to use so they fly solo against whole armies of a few mechs, tanks and some infantry...really WK shoulda given those things 18 ranges 6dmg w/ Armor piercing and some hardened armor w/ 23 Defense for a few clicks then maybe theyd be something haha

  • The Mech with a gattling cannon is an Atlas II

  • What MechWarrior game is this one off of? I haven't played MechWarrior in some time.

  • It isn't one. This was made to drum up interest in the Mechwarrior Storyline for wizkids.

The Ares, the big three-legged thing, is a game piece.

  • With his speed, he would be even a prey for 2 catapults when they keep their distance...

Obviously it would take a long time with the armor of a mech like this, but it would be only a matter of time (in a long range battle).

  • That assumes he doesn't have equally long range weapons and he's alone. Given the cost to put that much tonnage on the field I'd say neither of those assumptions are good ones to make.

  • well....I can tell you from haveing that Ares Mech as the game piece for Wizkids MW game he doesnt have longer or equally long range to a Catapult haha that Ares there is Hades and only has 12 range and melee attacks.....the coolest looking yet one of the worst

  • What Mech is that with the gatling cannon??
