  • Nice wing mate! Im building an rc wing for my tech studies major that will be 2.4m across looks to be similar to what youve got there. and i like the description where you have to explain what a ute is haha

  • @PassionHobby Yep! Still ok.

  • what is the verdict on the landing gear? Good or bad?

  • @Guinnie , The gear idea was good but the choice of size was bad, I chose what they call 40 size retracts. Looked good going up and down when flying but was too flimsy on actual contact with the ground. Should have gone 60 size pneumatics. Would have spent less time setting up too.

  • @Paulchoppysoo Thanks for the feedback I just got talked out of landing gear by another wing builder, when he showed me how to make a dolly launcher

Tiny little cart with RC wheels you set the wing on then power away until it takes off

..you can also hook a bungee on the cart to speed things up

I am I the process of building a powered Mothership right now

  • @Guinnie Retracts or fixed, its a extravagance that is for effect, depending on size and available power. I wanted the effect and bragging rights but also wasn't sure if this could be hand launched at the time. How about a dolly that can be dropped with servo release? Come to think of it, I might go that way too ...Let me know how it goes :)

  • @Paulchoppysoo The mothership did not go so well The damn thing would not settle in...I trashed it I think it works fine as a sloper though

  • @Guinnie That's too bad, but dont give up! Thinking of two receivers, one on the dolly and one on the plane. The dolly will get rudder control and release. A parachute as well if it comes off too high! All controlled by a 9ch radio.

  • Brilliant! great looking wing!

  • Ok guy it's sick but you need to build a pulse jet for it.Then you get the prop's and the DARPA contract.

  • Congratulations

do you have plans or pictures of the building you zagi

What kind of retracts did you used

    how many servos

    how is the structure

  • Thanx, No plans sorry.

Its 1" thick styro foam ribs every 10" wrapped with corflute and joined through a plywood box spar and 4 carbon spars. See my dragg rudder vid for a image of its cross section.

Heat it gently with a hot air gun to get the stuff to curve around the top and bottom.

The retracts are some cheap .60 size servo driven type.

Two small servos for the drag rudders, two large for the elevons, one large servo for the retracts and one small servo for the nose gear door. 6 all up.

  • good flight considering the wind,

  • nice landing in the very tough conditions.
