  • grew up by south post oak in 83 & never forgot looking in to mother natures EYE during the calm. 10 and realized what insignificant really meant, fkn rad!.... vwbugs floatin down brays bayou lol .gr8wrk h-air tho Maiden instead of skorps next time bro )

  • Great vid, thanks! Lived in Houston at the time. Remember my family driving down Katy freeway the next day, and all the billboards were stripped clean. My main memory of the hurricane itself was how LOUD it was. Never knew wind could make such a sound.

  • I can still remember hearing the cracking of all of the utility wires and transformers blowing outside. One of the most scary feelings I had ever experienced. A tree branch broke out patio door. I was so scared.

  • i was in an apt near greenspoint mall on the north side of houston i rode out the storm girders from atexaco twisted streets flooded ship channel ships on the dock well im back north not rich but surviviing

  • i was in the santa fe area (galvinston county) at the time it hit(i was about 5) i remmber that crap like it was yesterday.

  • I road this one out on board our 56 ft boat at the Seabrook Shipyard . I survived the storm and the bad guys did come in small boats . Before law was restored and before Police could even get back in the Seabrook Shipyard, I had to rack the action on my shotgun more than once. Yes, it really is the international language!"

  • and 2008 was the next one

  • This is a cool clip of Alicia ! I filmed it. I was in Webster when it hit ! What a night that was !

  • Flagship out-take - this facility is usually battered (currently an eyesore since Ike)...

  • thank you for putting this on here I was 2 when it hit but my mom told me how bad it was.. by the way LOVE THIS SONG!!!

  • all i remember about alicia was sitting in the dark eating fruit loops wit my little sister

  • in a situation like that that place can become quite the deathtrap sp to speak, there would have been alot of dead or injured people on the roadways all over the place if it would not have shifted like it did making landfall, and alot of people seem to forget about Rita, I dont, I was there, in the middle of all that crap and will never forget the mess I saw on the freeways, never seen so many cars abandoned and out of gas in my entire life, looked like something out of the movie armageddon

  • what sucked so bad about Rita was that we lived in Clear Lake which is halfway between south houston and galveston, the cops had one side of the roads closed instead of allowing outbound traffic on both sides to get people out of the city faster, and alot of cars simply ran out of gas, I went through 2 full tanks of gas idling the majority of the time in traffic miles and miles long on 146 and then again on 45, never again, glad to be out of houston!

  • Hell I had been saying for years that it was only a matter of time before another one hit Houston again and everybody knew it, we would watch them every year either weaken out or head for Florida etc., and Rita would have been alot worse if it was a direct hit on Houston, it started shifting direction as it made landfall from Downtown, im sure Galveston got pounded a little, but nothing like it did with Ike

  • I didnt get to ride Ike out down there in Houston with my family when it hit since im up in north texas but I was in houston when Elisha hit and I remember that wild ride, if Ike was anything like that, from what my folks told me it must have been one hell of a ride

  • I remember Alicia. My parents and I were living in Lumberton, Texas at the time. We caught the end tail of it.

I had a little wading pool in the backyard and it was empty. But when we had the storm and caught the tiny bit of Alicia, my pool got filled up with water!!! I asked my mother, "Can I go swimming??!!" and she was like, "NO! You stay inside!"...That was funny...

  • wow thats crazy that he said that, I think he jinxed us, we got a hurricane with 110 mile winds and gusts of 135 almost exactly one month later. And that hotel with the wall ripped out has the exact same wall ripped out now. I have never in my life seen anything like a hurricane, which my dad warned me of the fact that you have never seen a storm until you experience a real hurricane. He was here during alicia

  • Yes YES!! 2008 was definitely our year! Ike was a relentless monster. I saw firsthand right on the river, it was awesome!

  • Flew through Hurricane Alicia: not on the Hurricane Hunter (I wish!!), but on a medi-vac: no choice, being flown to San Antonio to have emergency back surgery. Bumpiest dang flight EVer. Burrrrrp. Excellent vid, and the song choice: perfect. FIVE STARS!

    *StormSpinner1* in Texas

  • ike ra ped us XP not realy

  • g'luck with Ikey.

  • guys good luck.....Ike is about 4 hours away from you all. Im in Laredo Texas...but....damn...its raining here a bit but i hope you all dont get too much

  • your right

  • fuk it like i told erryone lets wait wat happened hope nothing happened but o well in god we trust

  • My parents were in collage when this hit. My dad drove around the eye.

  • Guys I live in Houston and Hurricane Ike is coming right towards us and my mom said that we were getting the dirty side and my dad says that we're probably only gonna get high winds and maybe even a fence down if it's that bad. One good thing though is that we're out of school! YAY! But I'm still kinda scared because the only hurricane I've been through is Rita and we had a party cause we were out of school and it felt really good outside!

  • well your prediction for Houston to have a major hurricane in 2008 might be true. Hurricane Ike is out in the gulf right now, and if the cold front picks up it will most likely target Houston. If the cold front doesn't, it will go well south of Houston and hit near Brownsville or Corpus Christie. I'm starting to think that we might get this storm, because the Hurricane is moving very slow and that only gives it a much more chance of coming to the Hosuton area. Get ready Houston.

  • I agree, with the high pressure still standing with somewhat of a presence Ike will be blocked from shooting to far north. I think the storm might strike around the freeport area. If that happens then as Ike moves inland the eye wall might pass only 60 miles from Houston.

  • Well right now it's looking like a direct hit on the Houston area. We're looking at a really long night tonight. Funny thing is, it's expected to hit right around the SAME TIME Alicia made landfall. This is looking like Alicia 2 for Houston..

  • obrike and jdpinbaytown,

My family and I were in Sagemont (near Pearland/Friendswood) at the time - the eye went about 2 miles to our west.

My dad went to his office Downtown the day after, and he could hear skyscraper windows popping out of their frames and raining shattered glass all over. National Guard troops all over the place - eerie.

Too bad we didn't have the kind of home video capabilities then that we do now. There could have been some great YouTube fodder...

  • This storm tore up Baytown where I still live today,Was wandering if I was going to see my 21st birthday which was a few days later!

  • i was not born yet when alicia hit. But my parents and my sister remember it being horrible and it also came right by our house

  • the eye went right over my house...6027 fontenelle, houston tx, 77035...very cool to a 15 year old boy at the time

  • It went right over our house too .. I was only 7 so I was confused lol. The most intense wind & rain I'd ever seen, then all of a sudden it was 'peaceful' for a little bit.

  • I remember Alicia. I was pretty young, but I remember the hell she created in my town!

  • i was in cali at that time..i'm soo pissed i missed this storm!
